John Grogan
Make way for Marley
When the Grogan family is ready for a dog, they choose Marley, a yellow furball of a puppy who quickly grows into a large, rowdy Labrador retriever. Marley has a zest for life, and as he grows, so does his enthusiasm. He has an appetite for whatever he can get his paws on--from fine jewelry to underwear--and the one thing he "always" finds

This book was a really good book. And all of the dog lovers should read it because it's a really good book. After, you read it i suggest you go see the movie. BRING TISSUES!
Still trying to figure out how to read the last two chapters to Samuel (5-years-old).
Update: We did it! We read the whole thing together! In Chapter 20, Beating the Odds, I left out only a few details, and then we had a conversation about some pretty advanced issues for a 5-year-old, and he really seemed to process very well. It was a while before we read another chapter, but when we got back to it, I didn't leave anything else out, and we finished the book. . . including Marley'...more

I absolutely loved this book! If you're an animal lover at all you'll be able to empathise with this dog-owner's story throughout the whole book. I have my own dog, a springer spaniel, and she is just as lively as Marley especially when we first got her the amount of muddy laundry we had to rewash belonging to our neighbours and sheepishly hand back was not even funny!
This book is a great little story of how a dog can give you what most humans never can. Unwavering loyalty and love....more

this book is good and I love reading it and seeing the movie it gets said but i still think that it is great
If you are looking for a book that has mixed emotions within the pages, and are looking for a prequal to marley and me, than this book is meant for you. This book is about how the author(John Grogan) gets a puppy that is full of energy and adventure. They name him Marley, and Marley is a funny character. They have marley for a long time, and has loved that dog 'till the very end. This book takes place (at first) in florida, then to pennsylvania where he lived a good life.

We listened to this audio book over the weekend as we drove across the state and finished listening this evening in the driveway. Admittedly, I am not a dog person, but even so this was just an average book. There really is a limit to the number of times I need to have dog poop described. I guess dog feces is charming and endearing to some people? It was difficult to understand why they loved this dog so much, given its seemingly endless desire to crap on or destroy everything it could. In ...more
I think this is a great book. It is a wonderfull book for any dog lover such as myself. JOHN GROGAN, the author, talk's about the strugles and good times of having a dog and a family. He really gets you thinking of all the good times you have had with your own dogs, but you dont think of the bad, only good. Grogan, gets you to want to finish the book and the story of his life so that you can compair it to your own. He really hooks you like when Marley dies you are sad maybe crying.

Who doesn’t like puppies? They’re cute, cuddly,a playful company, and they just seem to put a smile on your face. That’s what John Grogan wanted; to have another dog just like his previous dog, Shaun. But what he got was more then he expected. Marley; a Dog like No other is a sensational memoir that had me laughing about

Dia mengajarkan tentang persahabatan, keberanian, kesetia...more
John Grogan and his wife have a dog like no other. Marley is a messy, jewelry eating, puking sand kind of dog but is a great dog to love at the end of the day. Meet Marley: a yellow fluffy hair ball that is growing quickly and has a lot to learn. Marley is also very hyper. Marley and Me is a sad story too especially when you get to the end.:( That`s why I gave this book four stars. My sister and I really did enjoy this book though. I wanted to see the movie but I was afraid that the producers wo...more

Read this for a local book club. Not a big dog fan but the life of the journalist interested me.
Well this book is about a dog that is a labrador retriever. Now we all know that labrador retriever's are very hipper when they are puppies. They like to jump, play, lick, & much more. But this book is about of those doggies. His name is marley. His owners names are Jenny & John. They love that dog, until he becomes very old. He can barley walk up stairs, he has really bad arthritis really bad in his hips. John has to take marley to the vet & they give him two choices to choose from either A)...more
i am a true dong lover. i would love to read this book. the reviews on it are great!
I just finished this with a student today. As we both sat, literally, sobbing, we had to take breaks from reading out loud to calm ourselves down. Dog books are always sad, but John Grogan does a great job in capturing the loyalty and unconditional love of an animal.
I read the the adult version years ago and thought he'd tone it down a bit for the YA version....nope! Cried just as hard. So did my fave student. But, she really, really loved the book and that's what counts the mos...more

Marley, A Dog Like No Other by John Grogan, is an hysterical book about a dog, a family, and a story I will never forget. John Grogan is now one of my favorite authors. This book is about John getting a dog named Marley. This rambunctious puppy turns into a rambunctious dog as he gets older and rowdier. Join Marley and John as this hilarious story unfolds. Whether he is ruining the garage, peeing on the training teacher's foot, or riding a sled down the hill and nearly killing himself, Marley is...more
I loved this book it's about this family that is made up of a married couple (the Grogans) and they were starting to wonder if they wanted someone or something to be in the house with them! so they try to find a dog and find one and the woman goes "300.00$ for the girls and 275.00$ for the boys and 'Marley' (aka the special puppy) is 250.00$ so they buy marley soon there after they have a baby boy then move into a new house then have another baby boy then have another baby and its a girl an...more

This book makes me want to bond wth more dogs, isntead of being afraid of them. Dogs like Marley, might be different, which, is like my two cats, kind of, anyways. It's like reading different books. Again, that word, sort of. I wish Marley were a real dog, and I had her. I'd be. . ,Different, from within the heart.
I liked this book. My only question is. . .Will you? I mean, would you read this book, and not like it? I just want you to feel what I feel, or, was it...more

1. The main characters are Marley and his owner John Grogan who is telling the story.
2. I like the fact that it is funny and about a dog and his relationship with John Grogan.
3. The biggest problem in this book is Marley’s behavioral trouble because of his excessive hyperactive nature.
4. I would recommend this book to someone that likes animals, especially someone that likes dogs because of the happiness of...more

Meet Marley, a yellow furball of a puppy who quickly grows into a large, rowdy Labrador retriever. With an appetite for nearly anything he can get his mouth around, including couches and fine jewelry, Marley is always getting into trouble. Some may say he's the world's worst dog.

anyone thinking of getting a Lab - Marley isn't the only Lab like this, it's good to be prepared :-)
This one was hard for me to rate because I have also read the original story and compared to that, I didn't enjoy this one as much. However, this one was obviously intended to be simpler and because it is aimed at a younger audience and finally a few chapters in I was able to get more into the story and enjoy it as it's own entity. I still got a little teary-eyed at the end and I still found myself laughing out loud in several parts. I read this one out-loud to my daughter and she also really...more

Marley:A Dog Like No Other is Marley And Me made into a simpler version. Marley is about a dog that has his own special personality. When he is first home he was not that bad. As time went on he just kept getting into mischief. He always found a way to stay with them though. Marley was a great dog to the family all the way through his life. Marley was a special dog that nothing could replace!

Being a dog lover who went through a similar but far more traumatic experience, I found the book to be very moving.
I ended up with this version instead of the Marley and Me. I felt shortchanged because I read it in one sitting this morning.
Marley wasn't all that unique. My Westie, though smaller and not as destructive, is similar. The mischief and fun, loyalty and devotion that builds and builds thoughout the first two thirds, made me feel like Marley is my own. Then, wh...more

Two or three years ago my mom was reading Marley and Me. Being a dog lover I wanted to read it too, but I believe it was my mom's friends book and I never got the chance to read it. Then I believe I was on vacation and ended up getting this Jr. edition. I really enjoyed it! And though it is a Jr. edition is has all of the same wonderful elements or Marley and Me, and it doesn't really seem like it's written for that young of kids at all. Highly recommended! (: I will warn you it is sad though.
Imagine having a dog that gets into absolutely everything in your house! Yep that's Marley a dog like no other. In this book John and his wife don't want kids yet so they decide to get a puppy, Marley. Hey he was the cheapest one! He also adored his new owners! Pretty soon in the story you figure out he has a weak spot LIGHTNING STORMS!!!! he will chew down to the very last bit of your wall to try to escape! THIS BOOK IS AMAZING! 5 ***** to John Grogan the author! Marlee is one of the cutest la...more
I thought this was a very sweet story. Not only was it true but it also has a good story quality. My favorite part has to do with a certain car ride. It has recently been made into a motion picture and I thought it did the book credit. I currently have a dog and this book and it's movie has shown me that dogs have a great life to the end. And while I'll be sad when she joins Marley, I'll know that she lived a good life and that she is young and strong again.

“Just so you know Labrodor retrivers do not howl.Begals Howl.Wolves howl. Labs do not howl, at lestnot well. Marley attempted twice to howl, both times in answer to a passing police siren, tossing back his head, forming his mouth into an O shape, and letting loose the most pathetic sound Ihave ever heard, more like gargling than answering the call of the wild. Butnow,no question about it he was howling.”
