Being one of the guys isn't what it's cracked up to be.

Chastity O'Neill is the only girl in a rowdy family of four alpha male brothers, all who are firefighters. Dad is the fire department's captain. Mom is the no-nonesense, take-no-prisoners type.

And then there is Trevor Meade, also a firefighter. An old-fashioned good boy with brown curly hair and soft brown eyes. The honorary O'Neill. Best friend to Chastity's brothers. A real live, walking, talking Vagina Magnet. Trevor is also Chastity's f

LOVED THIS!! I'm still a blubbering mess right now, give me a minute.

Kristan Higgins is AMAZING. I haven't felt so connected to an authors work since Lisa Kleypas, and she is a GENIUS. I laughed, I cried, I felt everything reading this book! It was so emotional, so poignant, so well written, so sweet, so freakin good! The cover? It gives a false impression. This isn't a cheesy, sweet and light romance.
It's a powerful and moving story about not settling for the love we truly want and deserve. It

Kristan Higgins es una apuesta segura para novelas frescas, divertidas y con un romance de esos bonitos sin grandes pretensiones. Lo leí hace algún tiempo y es muy recomendable.

This is my third Kristan Higgins book and it was another winner! It was such a great love story. It was beautifully written, filled with a great cast of characters and an abundance of moments that will have your heart tied in a knot.

I loved Chasity and I loved Trevor. Their relationship was unique. They had shared so much. Mostly in a platonic way but there had been a short time when they had given in to their feelings and things turned sexual. For Chasity it meant everything. To her Trevor was

Dear Authors: Please give us more heroines like Chas, because she is freaking amazing.

I freaking loved Chastity. Honestly? One of the best female protagonists ever written IMO. How many times do we get to read about a heroine who is assertive without being douchey, generous and big-hearted without being a doormat, and competent and confident without being arrogant? Not often enough, let me tell you. All of these great qualities, but her character is so well-drawn that she is still human and rela

I really enjoyed that one. The family banter, the heroine strong character, the humor. But I think I was really tired at both "main characters" for not getting their "shit" together more quickly. Then at the end I think it was all wrapped up too fast. Overall a good read, it fit my mood that day. :))

Another great story by one of my favourite go-to authors. Loved reading Chastity’s story. She was a real firecracker, full of humour and attitude. The youngest sibling to all brothers, in a family full of firefighters, Chastity is, as the title suggests, one of the guys. She also happens to be hopelessly in love with Trevor, a close friend to the family.

Like other Kristan Higgins stories, I’ve read criticism that the hero of the story was too much of a mystery and we didn't get to see what was g

Chastity is a tall, big, healthy girl - a journalist, who comes back to her native town of Eaton Falls after a decade of studying and working in New York. She is also part of a big family of firefighters, the youngest sisters of four equally tall, big and healthy brothers. Chastity is ready to settle down, find a husband and start popping out some kids, but her rather domineering looks do not help in her quest. When she starts dating Ryan - a doctor, perfect husband material - she thinks she's ...more

I wanted to read this book ever since I heard about it on amazon. It had my favorite theme. Childhood friends who bordered lovers but not quite, because they've been more like family even longer. Its a cute novel. The humor is always fun (as well as her LOTR obsession) and the characters were all quite likable (I loved her brothers and their asking her for advice and her stiff trauma surgeon bf, oddly). Her family is very amusing though slightly dysfunctional (her parents are divorced, but are ...more

This is my first book by the highly recommended Kristan Higgins, and I must say that I am very confused with how to rate this book! Some parts were so brilliant that 5 stars aren't enough, and other parts of this book really grated on my nerves. I ended up giving it 3 stars because of my confusion.

I loved the humor in this book. Humor is very difficult to write well, and Kristan Higgins writes it very well . There are few authors that can make me laugh out loud and this book made me do just th

I loved this book. Stick with me here. I'm not very good with reviews and the more I like a book, the more I tend to babble, lol. I had been wondering about this author. After getting some opinions on Amazon, I decided to check her out. I started with this one because I've read other books with a similar theme and liked them a lot (Her Best Friend's Lover, Seducing Simon).

It's true that Higgins leans toward the "chick lit" side of romance. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about such a G rated book, bu

Another library find. Chastity O'Neill has returned to Eaton Falls to work as a reporter at the local newspaper. She has five older brothers. Six, if you count Trevor. She's had a thing for Trevor since she was a child and now at thirty she has decided it's time to settle down and start a family. But Trevor seems more like a brother than the mate she wants. So after being dumped because she wasn't attractive enough, Chastity is having a few confidence issues. Then her divorced mom decides to hit ...more

DNF ~40% then I read a few pages here and there until the epilogue.
This is so NOT MY KIND OF ROMANCE.
Main couple having sex with other people throughout the book!!
WHYYYYYY??!!!??
I skipped and skipped because I wanted to know at what point something would actually happen between Chastity and Trevor and that something (very badly done) happens at 80%.
Yes, you read it right.
AT 80% of what is supposed to be their romance.
I'm very disappointed because I loved Chastity's sense of humor and I devoured

An interesting book. Less a story about love as the book's description would lead us to believe and more of a story about Chastity O’Neill, who ends up requiting her unrequited love. The reader is thrown into her life shortly after she moves back to her hometown. It just so happens that this point in her life includes certain romantic relationships.

I always enjoy reading about the day to day life of characters and this book certainly provides that. In this case the emphasis is heavily focused on

This book is so hilarious that it literally made my stomach ached and also heart warming at the same time that made my heart hurt. It's actually the first time that I’m making a review at whatever I read. I finished reading this book three days ago and by now, I already read two books of Rachel Gibson and yet at night I still remember Chas and Trevor’s story before I sleep. I can't help it, not because I'm currently single so I have nothing better to think during this short sembreak but because ...more

Though some of the antics are positively slapsticky, this was actually really depressing. This is the second book I've read from her and I did not like it as much as the other. I felt no connection with the characters I didn't understand their weird relationship or care for how they played the relationship game. It took forever, to finally get together. There was so much unsaid game playing it drove me crazy. It took 97% of the book to finally get.....

Just One Of The Guys happens to be one of those books where the heroine has always been in love with her first love since the very beginning. It's sweet and I have a thing for that. But due to some difficult circumstances and misunderstandings... things just didn't work out. I've been a fan of Kristan Higgins for awhile now and I've loved every single one of her books. It's charming, witty, and just downright heartbreaking sometimes. I absolutely adored Chastity because even though she's a tombo ...more

I love this author usually and, while this book wasn't bad, I guess I just expected more.
Like the title suggests, Chastity O'Neill has never really been seen as a sex-kitten. As we are told again and again, she is broad-shouldered, athletic, and five feet eleven inches. And three-quarters.
She's been in love with Trevor for years. They had a fling (one-night stand) in college but Trevor completely shut down after that. His family had broken up soon after his sister's death and the O'Neills becam

This is book number three by Kristen Higgins and my love for her books is growing with every one. This is the sweetest, most keep you on your toes story, filled with family drama that will not only enrage you right along with main character but will also endear the side character to your heart as much as the main character. It will keep you guessing till the very end, which I must say is a very large talent to poses as an author of any type of romance. I can not tell a lie I was sobbing ...more

I thought this was a well-written book with appealing characters and a good number of laughs. I would have rated it higher, but the romance plot seemed really depressing to me. Perhaps if it hadn't been written in the first person and we could've seen the hero suffering a little, as well as the heroine, I would've liked it more. As it was, reading about someone constantly yearning for a man who is always trying to foist her off on someone else for her own good was a bummer.

Chastity O'Neill has just been unceremoniously dumped by a too-skinny guy with freckled legs. His reason? She’s not “attractive” enough. The nerve! Just because Chastity is sportier, fitter and taller than him does not make her “unattractive” it makes him a pipsqueak, and not good enough for her. Unfortunately, now Chastity has absolutely zero dating prospects in the hometown she returned to six weeks ago. Even worse? The man she’s been in love with since adolescence is more handsome than ever, ...more

Wow. This book? So depressing. Sooooo depressing.

I bought this book via a rec from Smart Bitches, Trashy Books...but actually from reading Everything I Know About Love I Learned from Romance Novels. Damn. This book makes me re-think any contemporary rec she/the site gives. Cause I pretty much hated this book. I wish I had bought it in DTB format so I could have thrown it against the wall! And I don't normally have that reaction.

Let me digress.

I could relate to the title, Just One of the Guys, and Chastity's situation. My major in college was electronics engineering and there were a lot more guys in our class than girls. I have been part of groups where I was the only girl countless of times and my classmates treated me like I was just like them. So because I knew what it felt like to be just one of the boys, I had a feeling Chastity and I would get along just fine. And we did. It was easy enough to like Chas be

Okay, it official. Higgins is a very good writer. She just is not my thing. She is good and makes me achey. I highly recommend her actually but for me the couples spend way to much time apart, the secondary romances are always very heart breaking even when they resolve well, and I don't get enough of the HEA to make up for the OUCH that went before.

Her characters are compelling and detailed. I really like them. I just want them in different plots and more time with the couple.

I'm always unsure how many stars to give a Kristan Higgins book. She writes well, handles dialog better than most, and has good characters. However, she writes in first-person present, which I find distracting, and she seems to be reusing the same basic plot line for the last three books. I'm tired cringe-worthy embarrassing moments for the heroine. And in all three of the books I've read, the heroine, and usually the hero, too, are involved with other people (or want to be) for most of the ...more

“Where's your fiancé?" Trevor asks casually. I stiffen slightly, and Trevor steps back a little. "Well," I breathe. "Um, we sort of broke up."

Trevor's eyes widen a fraction, an eyebrow raising in surprise. He stops dancing, but none of the other couples seem to notice, too caught up in being in love. "Why?" Trevor whispers, still holding my hand, his arm still around me.

My hearts thumps harder, slower, each beat waiting for my answer as I stare into Trevor's eyes. I open my mouth to give some answer, some casual it-didn't-work-out kind of thing. But instead, I hear myself say something else entirely.

"Because he wasn't you.”
