This is a very complete collection of Brecht's poetry in German. They are organized chronologically, and are accompanied commentaries added by the editor about the various periods in Brecht's life in which groups of poems were written. I have not rated it because I did not have time to read much of it before returning it to the library, but it had all the charm, wit, and vinegar of Brecht in his native language.

At the moment Brecht seems to be the only poet who is appropriate for the current political climate, especially his poems from the 30s. And what he does with language is incredible.

Everyone should read Brecht! What an incredible Prophet! He really saw into the German soul...

Bertolt Brecht (born Eugen Berthold Friedrich Brecht) was a German poet, playwright, and theatre director. A seminal theatre practitioner of the twentieth century, Brecht made equally significant contributions to dramaturgy and theatrical production, the latter particularly through the seismic impact of the tours undertaken by the Berliner Ensemble—the post-war theatre company operated by Brecht a ...more
