This series is called The Gatekeepers in the US and Power of Five in the UK. It's kind of an odd series. When the first book came out, I really enjoyed it and the second one. Then, the third book took awhile to come out. When I read it, I didn't really enjoy it, so I kind of forgot about the series. Then, just recently I saw the 4th book had come out (there are going to be five), so I decided to give the series another try. I reread the first three and just finshed the fourth one, and foun More...

The thing that drew me to the Necropolis paperback was the fact that it was green. Totally green. THIS GREEN. Of course, the pages aren't green inside, which makes it easier to read. The packaging and cover were totally eye catching, and I have to say: This is totally my first time buying a book judging solely on the cover. Of course, the assurance that Anthony Horrowitz is a great writer had played a small part.

But other than that, totally on the cover.
Okay, I'm overusing the wor More...

The fifth member of the Gatekeepers is about to be discovered: Scarlett Adams, the adopted Asian daughter of divorced British parents. Scarlett's father works for Nightrise in Hong Kong, and when she is accidentally revealed to be one of the Gatekeepers, he sends for her. Matt, Scott and Richard travel from Nazca in Peru to try to stop her from going there, and they are hounded by the Old Ones every step of the way. The Gatekeepers powers are increasing, but Matt worries that they will nev More...

Necropolis is the fourth book in the utterly phenomenal Power of Five series. Many rave about Horowitz's Alex Rider books, and over look the Power of Five. This is just plain wrong wrong wrong!

For me, the Power of Five books are amoung my all time favourites. Absolutely stunning books. The first book, Raven's Gate, was published in 2005 and set a horrifying pace. A stand out scene has to be when a man is made to stab himself by an evil evil woman. Evil Star followed in 2006, with Nig More...

Definitely the best in the series so far. All the things that made the first three books in the series awesome are combined in this book: The creepy solitude of the main character in an enemy state from Raven's Gate, the intense mob fights and chases from Evil Star and the cunning manipulation of powerful companies from Nightrise. And in the center of all these events is a girl, the 5th of the Five, Scar.

I think that makes Scar the strongest character of the five and the most powerfu More...

It seems that as the Gatekeepers series continues to ASCEND, the Alex Rider novels must continue to DESCEND.

Necropolis is an all-around fast-paced book teeming with action and adventure. However, one must really wonder at its conclusion how much was accomplished over the course of the book.

Anthony Horrowitz continues the Gatekeepers' journey with the tale of Scarlett Adams, an adopted Chinese girl raised in England.

Horrowitz does a tremendous job describing th More...

The first strange event in the life of Scarlett Adams was the day she was rescued from certain death when she innocently stepped into the path of a speeding white van. She would have liked to thank the Chinese man who bravely swooped her out of harm's way, but he disappeared into the crowd.

Scarlett always knew she was adopted. Born in China, she was brought to England by Paul Adams and his wife. Her More...

At thirteen, Scarlett was saved from being hit by a van by a mysterious stranger who disappeared. Two years later, she walks through a strange door in a historic London church and finds herself in another country, captured by deranged monks.

The story doesn't follow Scarlett alone, but also picks up with Matt, Pedro and the twins, Scott and Jamie, who are still recovering from their last encounter More...

The book title, Necropolis, evokes the imagery of death, so it is no surprise that the book spins the saga into even darker and grittier territory. There are no happy-clappy moments in this story.

The four young gatekeepers have now determined the identity of the fifth and final member of their group, a girl named Scarlett. Matt and Jamie set off to alert her to her role and rescue her from the Old Ones who are getting ready to open a can of "end times" on the planet. More...

This book is in the "survival" category.

I chose this book because I was driven by the previous books in the series and how they left you in suspension after each book. Also the series was at first recommended by my friend who let me borrow the book to give it a try. After I started, I had to finish

I really liked this book because it introduced me to horror at a mild level, it also had pure chaos that made me think and wonder how they would survive. Also there was sl More...

I was given this book as a Christmas present, I had read none of the previous books in the series but decided to give it a look anyway.
It turned out to be a blessing not to have read the previous books as several chapters of this one recapped the previous 3, which could have been irritating if I had already known what had happened in them. Even without the recap, the plot is fairly straightforward and easy enough to pick up.

This book follows the same lines as so many other " More...

Necropolis was a great book by a suspenseful author: Anthony Horrowitz.

It is a science fiction type book and as stated very suspenseful.
Necropolis is the 4th book of the series (The Power of Five) which honestly is one of the best book series i have ever read.

Necropolis is very suspenseful just like other books in the series, but it doesn't keep you waiting too long....

Most people would say that the main idea/plot of a damsel in distress being saved, people having powers, and people uniting to destroy monsters used in this book and in this series is pretty cliche. But in my opinion Anthony Horowitz takes these cliches and creates five books of pure genius.

In this series there are five kids, Matt Freeman, Pedro, Scott Tyler, Jamie Tyler, and Scarlett Adams, and their destiny is to defeat mystical monsters known as the Old Ones who ruled the earth t More...

I picked up the first book in this series in a train station in England, and finished it while on the train. When I got to my destination I immediately stepped into the nearest bookstore and bought the second book. That's how much I liked this series.

Then I went home (to California), looked for the book and discovered - shock! - it's not sold in the U.S. Why not? Anthony Horowitz is a popular writer. His Alex Rider books are sold here, and I think the Power of Five series is much bet More...

In book four of the Gatekeeper Series, we meet Scarlett Adams aka Scarly. She's a fifteen year old of Chinese descent who was adopted by an couple in England and raised there. In this book we see Scarlett's journey as she discovers her true destiny as a Gatekeeper and everything the Old Ones will do to capture her to lure the other four Gatekeeprs into their trap.

I had a harder time getting into this book. But just like book three in this series, that was due to the fact that I was s More...

J. introduced me to these, perhaps a bit more suitable to a slightly older tween/teen than Horowitz's other series, Alex Rider. There is a lot of action and suspense as five teens realize their talents are from older beings and need to fight the encroaching evil that is threatening the world. This fourth installment in the series finds the main character, Matt, in Hong Kong, where he discovers the identity of the fifth Gatekeeper, Scar. The action is pretty much nonstop and sets us up for the More...

I received this book as a Goodreads First Read. I have read Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider series and have enjoyed all of them. This is the only book of the Gatekeeper's series that I have read. Starting to read in the fourth book of a five book series might not be fair. I enjoyed the book. I picked up the storyline fairly quickly. In the library that I last worked, both the Alex Rider series and the Gatekeepers series are shelved with the children's books, not the YA section. For the most More...

When I bought this book a while back ago, I had no idea that it was the fourth book in the Gatekeepers series. No. Idea. Some people told me that I shouldn’t read it without reading the other books, but I didn’t know if I wanted to give the other books a try. I mean what if I buy the first book and it sucks. Then I still have the fourth book in possession. So, I read the fourth book without reading the other books in this series and it blew my mind.

After reading the Alex Rider series, I fell in love with the author, Anthony Horowitz. His writing attracts young readers because he knows what they want, action and fast paced plots. The Gatekeeper's Series took a break from the modern day world of technology and touched upon the aspect of the fictional ancient history. These books were similar to the Alex Rider series. Some similar aspects include: action packed and fast paced plots. Also this book had more than one main character. This divide More...

Necropolis (the fourth installment of the Gatekeepers series) is about a girl who finds out she's more than she thought and a boy's journey to find her and save her. Scarlett Adams is the fifth and final Gatekeeper, destined to fight side by side with the four other Gatekeepers against the Old Ones (aka evil beings who want to take over the world).

This book really put this series in the Horror genre. The OLD ONES have been released in the world. Forget about what happened in previous books. What happened here is really horrendous. Necropolis means the City of the Death. And that's what happen in Hong Kong. It was step by step transformed to city of death. Many people died here and the sense of helplessness is prevalent throughout the book. Scarlett is just an ordinary girl that was thrust into a trap. The horror of it is that when Scarlet More...

This was probably my favourite out of the fours books so far in this series. It kept me gripped pretty much all the way through. I found myself caring more about the characters in this book. I guess 'cause I've grown to know them better through the series, espeically Matt. I loved that it was primarily set in Hong Kong and the way Anthony goes into detail with lesser known, interesting facts.

I am now eagerly awaiting the next book in the series. Like, really badly actually, 'cause h More...

Although this is the 4th book, It's the first I've read since I got it in the giveaway. needless to say, reading the book was like being thrown into the middle of a battle...And I guess that's what it actually was.

I don't tend to enjoy stories about the 'end of the world' and 'chosen ones' especially in the form of tweens/teens, but Horowitz is a skilled writer and actually pleased me despite my initial concerns. There was a lot of violence, blood, guns; enough to make even me happ More...
