Philippa doesn’t consider herself a true goth. She just likes wearing black. When she sees an ad in the paper looking for a nanny for twin, 10-year-old girls with the stipulation that the applicant “must love black,” she feels like she has found the perfect summer job. It doesn’t hurt that taking this job will get her out of going on a honeymoon cruise with her father and new step-mother. She leaves for her new job directly from the wedding reception. Geoff, the totally hot gardener and par

A teen who lost her mother ten years earlier in a car accident she, herself survived, answers an ad for a nanny to avoid going the honeymoon with her dad and new stepmother. Her new job is at an exclusive spa on the coast of Maine where she is to take care of and see that a pair of ten year old twins who lost their mother have some fun. The twins had written the ad themselves and since ????? always only wore black anyway, it seemed like a good opportunity. This was fun and entertaining but the f

First, I wasn't totally convinced this chick was actually goth as goth takes more than dressing in black and liking black rainbows. She seemed like kind of a superficial goth; someone that dresses in black and pouts all the time at other people's happiness but put a set of abs you can bounce a quarter off of in front of her and she goes gaga. Totally not goth.
And what's with the twins?
Seriously, was red rum involved? I haven't even seen The Shining and I couldn't stop thi More...

Philippa loves to wear black. Not because she is a goth but because she feels like black offers her a way to "be ready" when tragedy happens....such as the night her mom was killed in a car accident. So she feels like her new job as a nanny is made for her when she notices the ad is specifically looking for someone who loves black. And the job is perfect for her...she isn't scared of ghosts, she doesn't get creeped out by two 10-year-old twins who seem to come straight from the Adam

Phillipa takes off in the middle of her dad's wedding to pastel-loving Krystal, in order to head off to her summer job - being a nanny who "loves black" to ten-year-old twin girls at a luxurious but creepy spa in Maine. The spa has all the latest amenities, including a hot gardener named Geoff, a bossy, a ghost-obsessed business-women named Lady Buena Verde, an absent-minded father, and a prissy assistant, Laurie, who may or may not be dating Geoff. However, the twins and their new n

Philippa has answered a job ad for a nanny, which stipulated that applicants must love black. This is perfect for non-goth, but black loving Philippa, especially in light of her father's new marriage to an annoyingly cheerful woman. Philippa is happy for the chance to escape the newlyweds and becomes quite fond of the two twin girls she is to care for. They are solemn, black wearing girls, who enjoy reading and researching on their computers. Their father has become quite distant with the ad

OK - I really liked this one. The plot wasn't very deep, but the characters were very likable. There seemed to be a little mystery, but I thought it was more of a coming to like yourself kind of story for this teenage girl who lost her mom and the 10 year old twins who also lost theirs. Very sweet and satisfying...

This was such a cute YA story. It really defeats the "goth" steriotype and is a really touching story about family and friends and happiness. Pippa's father is getting remarried, but Pippa isn't ready for that after the death of her mother. So she takes a babysitting job to get away from her home life. She ends up babysitting for 10-yr-old twins that are nothing if not practical, with a scedule with required "fun" time and living in a room that is more like a prison, Pippa ha

This book started out pretty good, a crush that may or may not go any further than that-a crush, a mysterious&large house, a ghost story, &a goth girl for a nanny. Sounds interesting, right? I thought so, but half way through the story didnt really develop much, was the ghost story JUST a story? Do the nanny&gardener end up together? Is there any peace at her home? Soo many questions left unanswered with no seqal, sigh. I guess thats what imagination is for, but there really isnt much to go on.

Although it says, "get your goth on" it may not be goth enough for most. It is a fun read about Philippa's summer as a nanny in a mansion on a cliff for two 10 year old girls who don't know how to have fun. The twins need more attention from their busy father after the death of their mother and Philippa is somewhat guided by a novel her deceased mother wrote and also uses the job as a way to be away from home for the summer after her father remarries. The hot gardener Geoff is a bonus.

This book sounded so promising, so imagine my disappointment when I reached the end of the book.
So I was browsing books in my school's library and I saw this book. I picked it up and read the blurb and I was all: AWESOME! A GHOST STORY! I've wanted to read something dark and creepy and romantic ever since Paula Morris' Ruined and Beth Fantaskey's Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side and many more (I could consider Goosebumps, but those books honestly give me the heebie jee More...

I loved this book. or at least, the first half of it. usually i whine about reading series books and debating about if i want to read it again or not. but this has the oposite problem. the author gets us committed to these awesome characters, sets up some mysteries, guides us towards a few resolution possibilities- then BAM, an epologue at the end of the summer. no more about the intervening months, nothing about what happens next. if ever a book needed a sequel, it is this one.

This book was really cute, but a little short for my tastes. I love Triste and Rienne but it felt like thier characters weren't developed enough. Also, the ending felt very rushed. Other than that, this was an easy, light read and I enjoyed it very much. Kelly McClymer knows how to make a book funny (without making it rediculous), and she knows just when to put in the serious aspects. Due to a few flaws, I've rated this 3/5 but don't get me wrong, this was a pretty cool book.

Cute-not a lot of substance. Philippa is a black wearing 'goth' girl (but besides the black there's not much else Gothic about her). She answers an add to be a nanny for two ten year old girls, the add says "must love black". The girls are somber and serious, their father is busy with his work. Philippa also has the hot gardener to have a crush on. Fluff.

To be honest, the book may have gotten better if I continued reading it. But after three chapters of Phillipa, I had no desire to spend anymore time in her head. Sometimes I can stick with a book even if I loathe the main character if I love some other aspect of the book but... this one just wasn't for me.

I think that if I were some where between the ages of twelve and sixteen I would consider this my favorite book ever. I'm not in that age range though so a this book seemed pretty juvenile to me. That said, I can see the appeal for a younger reader and I did enjoy myself while I read it. It gets a four out of five and I'll be passing it along to my eleven and fourteen year old nieces.

This was a really fun book. It was in the teen section of the book store (and I am way past that age!), but I loved the title and the colors on the cover -- and it sounded like a fun book to escape into. So I gave it a chance and was not disappointed. I plan to share this one with my pre-teen nieces next time I see them.

Still mourning the death of her mother and resentful of her father's recent marriage, Phillippa decides to take a summer job as a nanny to twins at a remote Maine resort. She was drawn to the job largely by one requirement, Must Love Black. Since she wears nothing but black, she sees it as a sign, applies and is hired. There she meets her charges, uber-serious twins, their business obsessed father and, among others, a hunky gardner.

I will admit I loved the name of the book and the look, but was sadly disappointed when I started reading and found that a lot of things were mentioned that would have been so much better if not just dropped and ignored like I don’t know, someone walking her off the cliff, what was that, I mean it was like it didn’t happen, and for something about loving black it was a little well mellow and kind of yellow like baby chicks. I was able to connected to Philippa at the beginning I could appreciate

This book was fun light reading, but could have been better with another 100 pages and some more story. Still, it was fun. Oh, but something that says "get your goth on" on the cover that's about someone who emphatically states more than once that they are NOT goth is a bit of false advertising. :P

This book starts out wonderfully; I was drawn in, the story seemed interesting, unique, and fun. But the book goes downhill, and I was a bit disappointed with it. An excellent first half, though, and some great characters and ideas.

This book definitely kept me reading until I couldn't read anymore which let me finish it in only 2 days. But I was kind shocked at few things which you can find out about if you read this interesting little number.....

This book showed a view of how some families (especially children) act in times of despiration. How far some go to feel loved and how far others would go to keep it that way.
My newest favorite book. A GREAT read!

cute book, but could have been fleshed out differently. annoying main character, who doesn't seem to grow up all that much. ending is amazingly abrupt. reviewed for SFPL teen collection

all girls can be in love, when Philippa falls in love with a guy that already have a girlfriend that is completely pink, she fell backwards a little. with her black self, can she really beat pink, does girly always get all of it. the answer is no. Philippa is going to give up until something shot her mind, since there is always hope, she tries to improve the relationship between her and him. and the outcome of it does come out pretty well

I enjoyed this novel well enough, but there were a number of loose ends that didn't get resolved or focused upon to my satisfaction.

A little disappointed, this wasn't what I expected. It was an okay book, but it wasn't funny like I was hoping it would be.
