Recommends it for: anyone interested in Montana history
Shelves: fiction
When I was in high school, I won a speech contest and was sent on an all expense paid trip to Washington, DC. There was a winner from every state there. After the trip, I made friends with the winner from Montana a young woman a year older than I was. We were pen pals for quite a while, and she eventually sent me a copy of this book.

I remember I really liked it, and that it was set in Montana. It was particularly about mining, but I can't remember if it was pro-union or what. I wish I still had

great read if you have an interest in finding out what a old-time mining town (Butte Montana) and mining was actually like. Also includes an interesting take on the company versus the unions... most realistic take on the company versus unions I have read. not really great live picture -- no great plot or storyline..... I think this book is a rarity for its subject matter and readability.

A blood feud carried over from the old country, mine accidents, and violent strikes are all part of the story. Tom Sawyer with an ...more

interesting read if you are want to know what life in a hard rock mining town (Butte Montana) was like in the early 1900s. also contains a great take on the union versus the company. Probably the most realistic take on the union versus the company I've read. Not great literature -- doesn't have a good storyline or narrative etc. -- but a rare book - in my opinion.
