While the drama is mounting and the characters are becoming less oblivious each book, we are still treated to unnecessary and obvious vocabulary lessons and general condescension.
Also, apparently if you have the narrator comment all the time about how she and her friends are totally cool with gay people it is fine for the characters to separate them and mock them, and fine for the narrator to stereotype them. My (least) favorite line? "Jack rushed into the room like a little gay torna...more

Okay, even though I haven't been a teen for a couple of years (uhm, make that over a decade), I'm a HUGE fan of the House of Night series. (Rather obvious, considering I bought it on the date of its release) Marked, Betrayed and Chosen were superb! That said, I really enjoyed Untamed, but if I had to order the books according to preference - it'd be fourth on my list.
I eagerly await Hunted. And the twists and turns I anticipate (and can't even imagine) will result from the events in Untamed...more

Ok, so I really hated the last book and I told myself I wasn't going to read anymore of this series, but I came across a cheap electronic version and I couldn't help myself. I am glad I did. This book was so much better than the previous ones, my only two complaints are: 1. too short!! and 2. I know this is targeted towards a young audience, but come on, does Zoe really need multiple love interests in every book!!!? And to make it worse, does she really have to fall "head over heels"...more

I like the general story line and the characters, but the redundant writing is getting a little old. Constant vocabulary lessons from Damien, the author describes everyone over and over again, everything from their personalities to their day to day clothing choices. Everytime the Grandmother speaks she calls Zoey the Cherokee word for daughter and every single time the author explains that the word makes her feel safe. There is a whole lot of explaining and back story and description and really ...more

This is what I've been waiting for the series to turn into. The first three books kept falling short of my expectations, but I couldn't quite give up on them. Finally the authors seem to have become comfortable and confident enough with the characters and story lines to break out of the rut they'd set in the beginning of the series. I hope these books continue to evolve and prove satisfying (and I hope they continue to churn them out every six months!)

This is an audiobook I am reviewing for Sound Commentary (www.soundcommentary.com) which is why I ran through the first three books so quickly. When you read quickly. you miss a certain type of detail. In audio, you have to hear it all. Which is why it was so apparent that Aphrodite was modeled after Cordelia Chase (both Buffy and Angel versions.) This isn't a bad thing, merely obvious. I also think that the authors are having trouble remembering that it's been only 2 months since Zooey was mark...more

OMG I am so gonna read this. Although Zoey (the character) is totally a slut now, I still want to keep reading these books.

Untamed is the 4th book in the House of Night series by P.C. Cast and her daughter, Kristin Cast.
It's a young adult paranormal vampire series about a teenage girl named Zoey Redbird. In the first book, Zoey is marked by the goddess, Nyx, to become a vampyre - a priestess of the night.
This book should NOT be read without first reading the preceeding three books. They are: 1) Marked 2) Betrayed 3) Chosen. A fifth book titled Hunted is due out in hardcover in March 2009. And, acc...more

I still have quite a few issues with this series. Regarding this book though, I'll just say that the story itself kept me reading until 2am. This is definitely my favourite in the series so far and I'm willing to look past the ever present name dropping and product placement and occasionally annoying characters (the twins and their twin speak and "he's so fiiiiine" makes me want to stab myself), and the stereotypical, clichéd writing of Damien & Jack (they're gay, we get it, sayi...more

This book took me an entire week to get through. Not because it was a particularly difficult read, but because the first part of it made me want to grind my teeth and start hitting things. It wasn't the plot that was so GRR! inducing, but rather the dialogue.
Why do "Vampyres" in Tulsa talk like 1990s Valley Girls? It was seriously much more overdone in this book than in the previous three. Either that, or I noticed it so much more because I just finished reading the Cassandra Clar...more

Very young teenagers who wouldnt notice the lack of plot
This was my least favorite of the four books. It was rather uneventful until the last like 6 pages. It took a whole book for very little to happen. Ok her friends are mad then they arnt and Neferet is evil the end! I never noticed before how annoying the whole twin thing is. OK I get it there twins from different parents we dont have to hear them call each other twin every 5 pages. Also for some reason hearing about Damien and Jack being gay is really annoying. Ok they are gay I got that why do ...more

The fourth book in the House of Night series was very well written. It wasn't as good as the previous books in the series. The action in the book wasnt as fast as the other books. This book didnt have a fast moving plot. It repeated itself. Dont get me wrong I loved this book and I love the series but the book wasnt as wonderful as I hoped it would be. I'm excited about the next book. It comes out in March 2008 :(

On first reading, this was my least favorite of the series (thought necessary) as it brought in new demonic influences I didn't expect, to further complicate things and introduce an opposite to Nyx understandably. So its not bad but was less enjoyable with the less human/vamp story more evil, death, destruction mode in play. But it was still awesomely written and developed, held my full attention and I can't wait 4 months for the next one HUNTED!

IT WOULD BE BEST TO READ THE FIRST THREE BOOKS IN THE SERIES BEFORE YOU READ UNTAMED.
UNTAMED is the fourth book in the House of Night series. The story picks up just a few days after the ending of third book where Zoey Redbird is left isolated after disasters in her complicated love life and trouble with her friends because of her need to keep secrets from them. Everyone around her feels betrayed. Zoey’s only support comes from Aphrodite - the girl who started out as her worst enemy.

4th book of the series - See review of Marked (House of Night, Book 1) I think that this series is growing on me more and more! I enjoyed the first couple of books. They are all pretty fast reads. But, I am slowing becoming even more invested in these characters! I don't usually add reviews expect to the first book in a series, because I don't want to accidentally spoil something for anyone that hasn't starte...more

Zoey Redbird just can't seem to get it right.
After losing three potential boyfriends, alienating her closest vampyre buddies, and incurring the wrath of her mentor, Neferet, Zoey is on a downward spiral to Loserville. This young high priestess-in-training has a lot on her plate since transferring to the House of Night. Her abilities are creating quite a stir on campus and Zoey is not used to having all the attention on her.

The House of Night series is unlike any other vampire series I’ve read. I really enjoy the series and it’s interpretation of vampires. I’m especialy looking forward to reading the next novel.
I was disappointed in Untamed. After reading all of the previous novels and immensely enjoying them, Untamed fell short of the standard that had been set. Most of the novel was spent on explaining what happened in the previous three novels, and while I understand how that can be necessary, it too...more

I love these books because of the blend of mythologies and supernatural elements. The dialogue can get a little silly at seemingly inappropriate times and sometimes the one-liners are shot back and forth for a few lines longer than I'd like, but these are teenagers at a boarding school for vampires, so I can most definitely forgive that.
Basically, you've got fledgling vampires living in a boarding school, learning how to be proper vampires. On top of that, there is a mix of Wiccan and Nativ...more
