Fun to read! This book/cookbook is bright, colorful, easy to read and informational. As parents, we are responsible for providing the best fuel for our children and this book drives that home. Not very many recipes, but the ones I've tried so far have been excellent. This book is mostly for parents and teens who are new to eating clean, but even though I'm not new to the idea, I still enjoyed reading Tosca's perspective. If I had been new, I'm sure I would have been convinced to change my ways. ...more
Okay, this book is basically the Dr. Seuss version of everything Michael Pollan has written. She references The Omnivore's Dilemma frequently, but you can save yourself the trouble, and have a more interesting read, by just picking the book up yourself. Michael Pollan comes across as curious and trying to solve a problem--basically if the way we are all eating is making us (as a culture) unhealthy, how SHOULD we be eating? He offers broad guidelines (in In Defense Of Food), suggestions, and i...more
I love Tosca Reno. I really loved her first book, The Eat Clean Diet. Sometimes I follow her diet great. Sometimes I don't. But I still love her. She is like my best friend. My best friend who made me really skinny.
My super dearest friend Danae (who I've actually never met in real life, just on here), did not love this book, making me think you should read her first book (The Eat Clean Diet) before you read this one. (She read this one by itself.) This is like a follow up, add on to ...more

I wish I could give a half star, because I would give this book 3.5.
The advice is simple and straight forward: eat food. not preservatives, not additives, not flavors created in a factory. Eat food, eat organically when you can, and avoid meat from CAFOs. Don't add fat, salt or sugar to your food. I agree wholeheartedly with Ms. Reno's premise. However, I felt that some of the writing was difficult and cumbersome to read. More than once I found myself wondering where her editor was.

First I got the Eat-Clean magazine and loved it, then I saw there was a book. This is so great... I have always wanted our family to live this way but have never quite known how to do it. There are tons of fairly simple recipes in here that are making eating healthier a lot easier for our family. I made the macaroni and the sweet potato fries the other day for lunch. It was great.
I didn't really buy the premise of the first book, I'm not sure why I picked this up. The photos are adorable, that's probably why. The diet seems capricious in a lot of ways- f'rinstance processed soy in all forms is A-OK but other forms of processed foods are sneered at. I'm just not a diet sort of person, so I need to stop reading diet books.
It gets 4 stars just because it's a nutrition book, and I reserve 5 stars for the likes of Harry Potter and The Princess Bride. But this really was a fantastic read. I'm hooked and hope to be able to eat cleaner with my family. The recipes look wonderful!
I made the eat clean cupcakes for my birthday and LOVED them! My kids have made the sweet potatoe frys and the chicken nuggets. This is a FANTASTIC book! We LOVE to eat clean and this one has some kid favorites we enjoy ALL the time! (Like fish sticks!)
This was a good resource for my workshop because it did focus on food for kids, and I would have probably liked it more but I just finished all of the Michael Pollan books and her thoughts on food were totally on the same track, so it was repetitive for me.
Good book for eating more healthy. It does advocate venison, bison, and elk... not sure if I'm going to run out and find that, but that's a minor point.
This was a pretty good book. It was repetative after reading "The Omnivore's Dilemma" which was more informative about how things have gotten they way they have gotten and seemed a bit less preachy.
However, I liked the recipes in the book and the ones I tried, my kids did not hate. Good news.

This was just okay. Good info if you know nothing about eating stuff that doesn't come in a box, but otherwise preachy and repetitious. I think I'd enjoy a cookbook by this author more.
To tell the truth, I probably didn't get more than halfway through it. But felt like I wanted to move it off the "currently reading" shelf. Also tried the free magazine trial where you get one magazine and then decide whether to subscribe by marking "cancel" on the subscription info they send you. I decided not to keep the subscription either. I just can't stick with this. It's hypomaniacal reinforcement of common sense. So after the first several chapters (or magazine ...more
I don't agree with everything she says, but I think it's pretty good how she focuses on healthy foods like flax seeds, bee pollen, fresh fruits and veggies, coconut oil and whole grains while eliminating flour, sugar, fats and salt.
a few recipes decent enough for a picky toddler
Husband-friendly recipes!
This is a good resource, although no real new info if you are already "eating clean". The recipes are okay, but not great and I do disagree that eating clean is inexpensive. It costs $ to eat clean. Agave Nectar costs almost $4 a bottle for 11.75oz. and it is used in almost every recipe that calls for sugar.
I haven't fully completed the book, but there are many great healthful recipes for both adults and children in here. Her previous books preach 100% whole wheat and unfortunately the recipes in this book are half and half, which is a good start for those who do not already choose whole wheat varieties. The "Fun Pumpkin Hermits" (p 314) were perfect for the fall season. I look forward to trying the "Baked Falafel Patties" soon.
I really like Tosca's book and this cookbook was cool and had some good kid friendly recipes. But I believe that kids will eat what you give them if it's tastes good. Even if it is healthy.
This book is great because it really has kid friendly recipes. It also gives examples of success Tosca has had with HER kids and their friends when it comes to them eating poorlt at school, etc.
I liked the Mac and Cheese recipe with sweet potatoes in it. Also the recipe for hot cereal with dried blueberries, cranberries and cherries is great.
I can not tell you how great these books are. This is the way we should all be eating. It's not a diet at all. Fabulous!!
Great recipes! Love the whole wheat pancakes (especially with blueberries or dark chocolate chips added).
