LEAVE A CANDLE BURNING by Lori Wick and narrated by Barbara Rosenblat was a very good Christian historical fiction book. I listened to the unabridged version and it is the 3rd book in the Tucker Mills Trilogy.
Dannan MacKay comes to Tucker Mills as the new doctor and he has a chance encounter with Scottie Peterson who was in the general store at the same time. She accidentally hits him in the head with a rake. Later Dannan finds out Scottie is married and he has some issues with his feelings for...more

Leave a candle burning tells the tale of new town doctor, Dannan Mckay, who arrives to take over his uncles practice. He has barely unpacked his bags when he learns that his cousins family have been killed in a tragic accident and their small daughter is the only one to survive. Dannan agrees to look after her

Truly inspirational. The best of the trilogy! It was amazing seeing the religious determination and growth that occurs for all of the characters in this book.
Great quotes:
p. 33 "I am referring to that salvation we need each and every day if we're going to keep our thoughts on obedience and not let our hearts be distracted by things that go against the knowledge of God. But...I want you also to know that the battle is already won...We still have battles because our natural man is fleshly and want...more

I think this book was probably the most heart-wretching in the series to me. Dannan, the new town doc, sees a woman and is drawn to her, only to find out that she is beyond not available. Through a series of events, they are together alot and that just makes it harder for Dannan (whose life is already very hard). Eli does not make things any better with his request or order or whatever you want to call it. But in the end, things work out the way they were meant to be.

The 3rd book in the Tucker Mills trilogy; I picked up the book at a yardsale for free and haven't read the other 2 books yet, but this one was a nice read by itself. The story is about a new doctor, Dannan, who has just settled into the community and meets a young woman, Scottie, who he is immediately attracted to...the only catch is that he later finds out she is already married and to a man, Eli, about 15 years her senior. And to make it more difficult, this man requires the doctor's attention...more

This was a really good book. Just as good as the first two. Which (in my opinion) is rare (unless you are Lori Wick).
This one had such a unique twist to it that it made it hard to put down once you really got into the story and made it so interesting right up until the end.
Anything I write will spoil the story so I will stop here. Really good trilogy.

This book is so sweet. I think that it is sad that Elias dies. I dont see how a man could tell another that if he died, he wanted the other guy to either take care of or marry his wife. I think that Eli had to have a lot of courage to say that. I think that he is also strong and must be sad saying it too. Dannan and Scottie do make a very cute couple though. I love this story. I love the "love triangle" between the three people. Dannan really does care though. I just love this story. Read it for...more

Recommends it for:
Someone who doesn't want to read a graphic romance novel
I've read most of Lori Wick's books. Her books are very easy to read and fall into the Christian romance category. There is always a love story and the romance is toned down compared to most novels. There is a lot of Christian theology in her books and at least one person will become a Christian. If you are looking for a wholesome love story, this is the author for you. My only criticism is that the books are not realistic because almost everyone in the book is very good and holy.
I skipped through a lot of the reading because it was very wordy and boring. She ties in another story and I thought it would've been better if Lori would have just stuck to the one. When I rate something a 3, I wouldn't recommend it to someone. If I read a book below a 3, it would'nt happen. I just wouldn't finish the book.
I wish Lori Wick would take a page from Jane Austen and end her novels shortly after the wedding takes place -- these 15 years later epilogues are more than a little annoying. Other than that, Scottie is an enchanting heroine, and I found that Dannan adopting Corina was a wonderful - and believable - plot twist.
