Since I'm moving to Hawaii, I figured I needed to try knitting things that aren't hats, gloves, scarves, or sweaters. The photography in this book is very inspiring. So far, I've knitted the elephant and a tiny mouse. The elephant directions were a little difficult to follow, but not impossible. I didn't like the elephant directions which instructed you to knit a mirror image by changing all the knits to purls and all the purls to knits. This was too difficult for me to process, so I just p...more
This has a number of cute designs. Some of them are a little strange-looking; knitted toys, IMO, well, some designs work and some don't. The only thing that I object to is that it is somewhat overly insistent about using recommended brands and styles of yarn. (I don't think this makes the author a bad person or anything silly like that, just that there's no real guarantee that all styles/colors of yarn will be available for long.)
Adorable patterns you can whip up quickly! I have made the mice, bunny and the dog and they are good, reliable (and fast!) patterns. I found one or two print errors. Also lacking in some basic stitch detail - not meant for beginners. But if you know your stitches these are fabulous and great to make as quick gifts!
The patterns in this book are absolutely adorable! I am currently making the alligator, and I have found the instructions to be very straight forward. No confusion here! This book contains every kind of stuffed toy that you can think of, and they are equally enough for boys and girls.
From the title and cover, I just expected more than what this book had to offer. I think many of the "toys" in this pattern book were not practical for anything other than waiting-to-be-heirloom, sit-on-the-shelf objects.
Every plushie in here is adorable, intricate, and incredibly fun to knit. The patterns are easy-to-follow and perfectly written, and the photos are gorgeous.
I just got this one for Christmas! There are some really cute and easy patterns in here... lots of quick knits too. So much fun.
This book is excellent! I made the snake on the cover, and it is so cute. I have made a few other animals, and they turned out very well.
A fellow knitter made the patchwork tortoise from this book and it was SO CUTE. Have to check this book out for myself.
The mice pattern in this book is one of my all time fav toy patterns. Very cute.
Love this book! I plan on attempting the majority of the projects in the book.
I've never felt the urge to knit toys, but after paging through this book, I'm ready to knit a bunch. I think I'll start with the snake on the cover and move on next to the dachsund with the polka dot back and the stripey tummy!
The designs in this book are so adorable! The instructions for the patterns seem easy enough to follow.
Cute aesthetic, but not enough directions in the patterns.
There are only a few patterns I would consider making.
This book caught my eye with some of the really creative and fun toy patterns, but I haven't gotten around to trying any of them out because the patterns seemincredibly complex and hard to follow. I'm relatively new to knitting, but usually there is a good mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced projects in a book. I'd recommend this to an advanced knitter who has a really firm grasp of most of the knitting techniques out there. Maybe I'll come back to this book once I have a few more project...more
this is the best book of patterns i've ever coughed up $30 for. out of the 20 or more offered, i'll probably knit at least 3/4 of them. it's rare that i find a book with so many likable patterns. i've knit 3 so far and every one has been perfect. my only complaint is that zoe mellor seems to have an aversion to knitting with circulars. almost every one is done straight or on double points (ick) and then lots and lots of grafting.
Lately, I've been kind of obsessed with knitting toys for some unknown reason. I've made a few of the patterns in here as cat toys, which were great stash buster projects. The only thing I don't like the use of charts rather than written directions for some of the projects, I find it much too easy to lose my place.
I loved looking at the toys, but I was not ready to go this direction.
