I went into the book looking forward to a set of whodunnits, vintage Christie style, but was left disappointed. Undeniably below-par collection of Miss Marple cases. People always expect a lot from Agatha Christie's books, after having read masterpieces like And Then There Were None, Why Didn't They Ask Evans. And though many people believe and I agree too, that Hercule Poirot is a far more fascinating detective, I have a soft corner for Miss Marple, which was the reason I picked this book. The...more

What am I learning from this book??
Probably that I'm over Miss Marple.
Haven't read one for years; and this one was such a small volume, one I could easily fit into my jacket pocket when I caught a train into the city, that this is exactly what I am doing.
I bought it to have a light break from my usual fare.
I'm enjoying the rather dreadful, far-fetched, predictable plots in so far as one can enjoy dreadful, far-fetched and predictable plots and as I have less than 50 pages to go I'm sure to finis...more

I enjoyed the Miss Marple stories but found the additional 2 at the end of the book more strange tan enjoyable- especially the one about the doll.

A highly recognized sleuth, Miss Marple unravels seven engaging mysteries, among them: "Tape Measure Murder," about an ordinary housewife found dead; "Case of the Perfect Maid," where a servant turns up missing; "Case of the Caretaker," in which Miss Marple's doctor procures a very strange remedy for the flu; "Miss Marple Tells a Story," where a husban...more

I enjoyed this a lot, especially as I seem to find that I prefer the short story versions of the Miss Marple stories, rather than the full novel mysteries. Out of this collection of nine stories, I'd say that five of them are definitely worth reading, whilst the other four are of varying natures. My one disappointment was that two of the stories in the middle, The Dressmaker's Doll and In a Glass Darkly, were not Miss Marple stories at all and came across more as morality tales than anything els...more

The first. I thought that when I'm going to try reading Agatha Christie's novels, I'm going to read the collection of stories first, not the full hundreds of pages for only a case. So then I read this. This novel wasn't really good for amateurs in Agatha Christie. But this is actually pretty ok if you read other Ms. Marple's cases.

This novel has thirteen collection of stories, some of which featuring Ms. Marple, the old virgin villager detective women. Unlike Detective Poirot that solved the cas...more

More like “This reviewer’s final decision to never read Agatha Christie again”. At the end of her life, Agatha Christie agreed to publish the remaining Miss Marple short stories which hadn’t yet been put into book format.

There’s a reason they hadn’t yet been put into book format. These are indicative of Christie at her short story laziest, and Miss Marple – a character who is often “magically” intuitive in her understanding – here is just a plot device to reveal answers no one could ever have kn...more

The cases in Miss Marple series I find not too much to complicated compared to Poirot's cases. So I would say it has lower level of detectiveness. Moreover, there are 2 mystery stories (without any logical explanation) and 1 story solved by other person (Miss Marple only read the story).

However the style of this book is simpler and easy to understand. I don't need to re-read many times to understand the case. Probably other time I will try to read a full book case rather than many short cases a...more

Oh, I do love Agatha Christie and Miss Marple! This has been some light reading before bed lately, since I've been flying through so many children's chapter books.

I love Miss Marple's mysteries but found the more mysterious and less mystery-oriented short stories less satisfying. I didn't care for 'The Dressmaker's Doll' or 'In a Glass Darkly' as much as the more traditional crime-detective stories.

I love Miss Marple and I admire the detail that Christie manages to put into only a few pages. The only issue I had with the book was the story about the doll. It didn't relate to Miss Marple at all; there wasn't even any murder. It was a rather strange attempt at the supernatural. Admittedly, it wasn't a terrible story. I just thought it was an odd place to put it.

gadis yang dituduh melakukan pencurian... kasus boneka...more

Some of my favorite Marple stories including the one with Bunch, the vicar's wife and Jane's niece, doing some detective work of her own.
The two extra stories are... weird. The one about the doll creeped me out when I was younger and it creeps me out now.
Great read, fun stories.

I am a huge Agatha Christie fan and some of these short stories were up to her usual standards...but others weren't. Miss Marple's understanding of human nature is always impressive.

What ruined these stories for me was the reader. The first few are read by someone that sounds like they are trying multiple characters at once - a British accent, a lisp, an elderly woman and someone with a constant mouthful of drool. All in one voice. Luckily, the last two stories had other readers!

Quaint Essentially British... bite-size stories, easy quick read with delightful characters. Agatha Christie's Miss Marple unravels seven engaging mysteries with intriguing titles. Published after Agatha Christie died this is a rather good collection of short stories.

Despite the title, the six Marple stories recount cases from the middle of her career, rather than her final adventures, and all are reprinted from earlier collections. This collection was published in 1979. I love these short stories as I love all her novels too... =)

Some truly brilliant short stories, some average ones. This collection wasn't published until after Christie's death, so they might have been better had she had the chance to edit some more. But all in all, it's pretty impressive to write a whodunnit in 20 pages!

Some of these stories most Miss Marple fans will be familiar with, though two stories aren't even Miss Marple stories. They were, of course, all entertaining, but they also showed that Agatha Christie's writing subjects extend past her most popular characters. She especially shows a darker, supernatural side in many of her stories, which makes me wonder if she were writing today, with today's standards, how her stories might be different. We know Christie started writing to earn a living, so she...more

Miss Marple's Final Cases is just a collection of short stories and there is no reason whatsoever why this should be the final book about Miss Marple. The stories are simple and charming in their own way but nothing out of the ordinary.

Seven Miss Marple short stories and two other Christie shorts are included here. Satisfying enough for Christie fans such as myself. Chronologically this was the last detective book published by Christie, being a posthumous publication.

I must admit that i was a bit disappointed with this installment of AG. Most of the title names gave away the thrill of the story. Wonder why she chose such obvious titles such as "the perfect maid" and "the tape measure" !!

The stories about Miss Marple in this book are not special and similar to her other cases. The last two stories with supernatural though, are very interesting. Still in Agatha Christie's style but feels refreshing.

A collection of short stories in which Miss Marple sits and knits and solves the mysteries. The older I get, the more I appreciate Miss Marple. A classic from the Golden Age of mysteries.

Miss Marple's final cases is a really interesting book. I finished reading it in a short period of time as I was flipping pages without getting bored. All the seven short stories are interesting but I was surprised because there was a horror story which is not Agatha Christie's style but it was worth reading. I would recommend this book to all people of different ages who like mystery.

A very nice collection of short stories starring Miss Marple. Though not as interesting as a Poirot novel, this book is worth a read.
Katharine Holden
"The Case of the Perfect Maid" is both a good mystery and funnier than heck, especially if you listen to it read by the great Joan Hickson.
Trudy
Light reading. I like Christie's short stories for a quick read in the evening before bed and this was perfect for that purpose.

Lots of shorts and one-offs, which was fine. Nothing convoluted, but the simple little things are good for snack-like reading.

Agatha Christie at her best and it's nice to have some short stories that you can read quickly in between doing other things.

It was really enjoyable just that doll story was very strange, i only couldn't understand that one. Overall it was an amazing book. :)

This is my First book in the series. I think picked a wrong book of the author. I was able to guess a few stories.

Agatha Christie also wrote romance novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott, and was occasionally published under the name Agatha Christie Mallowan.

Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller was born in Torquay, Devon, England, U.K., as the youngest of three. The Millers had two other children: Margaret Frary Miller (1879–1950), called Madge, who was eleven years Agatha's senior, and Louis Montant Miller (1880...more
