Text to self:
In the book Oceans Apart by Karen Kingsbury Max loses his mother in a plane crash. He is devastated and can't believe the news when he hears it. He keeps on having hope that his mother will return to him even though he know she is gone for good. This reminds me of when I found out one of my friends was killed in a car wreck. I absolutely could not believe it. Even when I went to the funeral I kept on telling myself that none of it was real. I still look for h...more

I listened to this book in my car on CD, and hardly ever arrived anywhere dry eyed. A Hawaiian stewardess had a one night stand 8 years before with a pilot, and this produced a sweet wonderful little boy named Max. The stewardess never told the pilot, as she knew he was married. When Max is 7, his mother is killed in a plane crash, and she leaves a request with her lawyer that the pilot be contacted, spend 2 weeks with Max, and decide if he wants to keep him. Not a dry eye in the house! And...more

Oceans Apart is one of the most suspenseful books I have ever read. It is beautifully written and it has so much depth and heart added into it.

This story is about Captain Connor Evans who has long forgotten his experience with a flight attendent from Hawaii. An accidental child came out of it and the captain never knew about the child. The flight attendent died in a plane crash and the first person on her list to contact is the captain.

Captain Connor recieves a phone call and is in tot...more

Whew! So far this has been such a tear jerker! I have been blubbering so much at the beginning of this novel that I keep having to blink to see the words on the page. Definatly grabs your attention right away.
Latter on having read the book... I almost didn't read this one because of the content (on an adultury from 8 years back in the story) but I needed to read something and Karen Kingsurys books are always good. So I got it from the library. It was actually uplifting. It was a good boo...more

recommends it for: anyone who likes christian lit
If you like Christian literature then this book is pretty good. It is about redemption and how things done in secret will come back to haunt you. The basic plotline is that a pilot had an affair with a flight attendant years ago and never told his wife. When the flight attendant's plane crashes at the beginning of the book he finds out that the affair resulted in a little boy, who he has been given the choice of meeting his son or the boy going up as a ward of the state. The book was an easy rea...more

This is a great book!

A man and a women have an affair when they are stranded in airport during a horrible storm. The man is married, but the woman does not know this.

The woman becomes pregnant with this man's child, but she never tell him. She actually nevers sees him again.

The man finds out this child is his, because the woman dies in a plane crash.

It might sound unrealistic, but it is a really moving story.

The book revolves around if the man will keep his long lost son ...more

Has a copy to sell/swap — Read in April, 2008
I finally read a Karen Kingsbury book thanks to my friend Sandi. This book was really sweet and a little like a book by Nicholas Sparks. I felt a little bogged down with all the Bible-talk....I believe actions speak louder than words. Also, I felt if a Christian author was going to write about second chances and forgiveness, it would be critical that she mention the Atonement. Still, I felt a little teary-eyed at the end (always a sign of a good story).

this was a story about a bad choice of one young man and how he had to deal with it later on in his life. These kinds of things happen and it makes us ask, "Would I be a big enough person to forgive and go on with my life, my marriage, even if it means incorporating my husband's mistake? What is the meaning of "true and unconditional love" anyway?!

Karen Kingsbury strikes again. An affair… an illegitimate child… What’s new?
At least the characters weren’t perfect in this one. Most of them were far from it actually.
This one was sweet and a little more interesting then most of her books, but word of advice. Don’t read anything that has Karen Kingsbury’s name on the front.

I've been reading books by Karen Kingsbury for quite a while now, and this book shattered no expectations. As a Christian author, Karen Kingsbury loves to write about tough situations in a way that everyone can relate to the characters, and what they are going through. She writes about heart-wrenching situations with honest emotion.

I thought this book was sad, but turned out happy. I was really angry with Michele the most - which I guess I should have understood where she was coming from more, but I didn't. I most felt for poor Max through the whole book and wished that the adults would get it together for him. I turns out great. I really good quick read.

This book made me so upset. I really did not enjoy reading it at all. I did learn a lot about forgiveness, but I hope this never happens to me! With this book, I could relate to my high school English teacher. She always told us that she would pray for the characters in her books. I did just that very thing with this one. ;-)

I enjoyed the topic of the book but didn't like all the religious stuff. I didn't mind it in the beginning, but it got very bad at the end. I would actively avoid this author in the future and feel this book should have some sort of information on the back that you will have a hard time with it if you aren't Christian.

It's not easy being a single mom, but Kiahna has a wonderful 7-year-old son named Max, a good job as a flight attendant, and a relationship with Christ. When the plane she's on crashes into the ocean, she prays that the Lord will bring Max and his dad together. Will God grant her this one miracle?

I couldn't put this book down. I kept wondering what was going to happen. GREAT book! I didn't think it was going to end the way it did...but was relieved at the end. A great story of love, compassion, and forgiveness.
