The age 2.5 child was so busy asking, "What's that?" and pointing at every colorful picture in the book it took us a few days to actually get around to the story. The beginning and end of the story have several stanzas with one picture page so I was skeptical about how those pages would hold my child's attention span but found he was willing to hear it all most times as long as I spent sufficient time answering all of his questions about the picture details. The inner pages are poetic ...more
Read this one again this week in conjunction with parts of The Ocean Alphabet Book. Jerry Pallotta visited our campus last week so that was sort of a closure to our study of all of his books.
Anyway, I digress. I like all of Giles Andreae's books. They have fun illustrations and catchy little rhymes. Shakespeare, it's not, but it doesn't have to be! My Mother sent this book to us to since we were going to Seaworld for a family vacation to introduce the ocean to my 2 year old son. I thought it was very cute and well done, he especially loves searching for the starfish hiding out on each page. I was a little taken aback by some of the wording, most particularly the swordfish skewering the other fish on his sword.

Would you like to teach your young reader about the animals in the ocean? This is a great way to start. This colorful book introduces beginners to learn about crabs, turtles, dolphins and jellyfish to name a few. Each page is filled with silly and fun rhymes describing the personalities of the oceans creatures. Parents will giggle along with their kids as they meet the interesting creatures that live in the sea, by the sea and even the ones that live at the very bottom.

Summary: This book is all about animals you see in the ocean. Each page is dedicated to a different animal or species you see in the ocean. It also has rhyming and colorful pages. I would use this book in an ocean unit. It has cute illustrations and it easy to understand. It is just a cute book!
Commotion in the Ocean is a book about all the different animals that you can find in the sea, how they live, and what they do.
It is such a fun book for young children that are discovering animals. They are given the opportunity to explore the animals that they can't see normally and learn about the different habitats that exist.

This is a truly superlative pop-up picture book of life at the bottom of the ocean. Its full of hilarious little details like a pull tab to move two frightened little starfish behind some coral and out of the way of the great big shark whose jaws snap open and shut as you open/close the book.
Wonderful.
Wonderful.
This is great for younger kids and talking about what they can find in the ocean. You could ask children about what things they could find in the ocean and see if they spot them in the book. Also mention that there are many more things in the ocean that you will find in the book.
This sweetly illustrated book that contains short (4-line) verses about ocean animals will be a favorite of children who enjoy the ocean. Nice variety...including "deep sea" along with the more common ocean creatures...dolphin, shark, angelfish.
This seems like a fun book for our upcoming Ocean theme. This book is a series of poems about animals that live in the ocean. This book has great illustrations and some of the pages are pop-up.
I like this book because it presents different sea creatures to the children. The book introduce sharks, whales, jellyfish, and even starfish.
Fun pictures and rhymes. Justin learned the names of lots of sea creatures because of this fun book.
Great fanciful illustrations. David Wojtowycz is a fun artist. A lot of entertaining rhythm to the words.
A book of simple poetry about all sorts of things in the ocean. My students LOVE it!
I really like how they introduces the animals in a fun rhyming kind of way.
This book would be excellent to teach students about the different types of animals that live in the ocean. The pictures in the book are very lively, so the students would be able to practice the comprehension strategy of imaging.
Fun rhymes. Adorable illustrations.

I always enjoy books that offer multiple teaching levels. Rhyming through the whole book, while offering ocean facts power packs this book. This book is good for a child to be introduced into informational texts. The illustrations are very colorful. It's written on a 2nd grade reading level.
after reading this story the children have an option of creating a picture or using materials to create an ocean animal or plant. We then use the work samples to create a ocean mirage.
Cute little poems. Easy to read to a very active little one as he plays. Again with the slightly creepy predators, though. The sharks going after other fish with big grins. And people wonder why I won't swim in an ocean!
This book contains a short poem for all the different animals that live in the ocean. My kids just love this book.
Another favorite of my kids.
Wish I had this in hardback! Fun little plays with words...cool drawings and very engaging! Not too much of a story line but it's interesting to preschoolers.
