The author creates a world and time that made me envision scenes from the movie 'Gladiator'. The opening scene had me questioning if I could come to like Azrael. It is very brutal and even though the author doesn't get too graphic, it was hard to stop my active imagination. There were only a few issues for me. In this, Redhawk’s fourth novel, the story follows two women caught up in the chaos of a military campaign in the fictional, medieval land of Barentcia. I hated how the main character was so weak and completely submissive to the warrior female lead character. It was infuriating to read on occasion. I found that the relationship was unrealistic and I did not relate to it. I found it very hard to believe that anyone could love someone after being treated wickedly. The writing style was good & story moved along nicely. Overall, it wasn't a bad read, but it was not my favorite.

This book is pretty crappy. Badly written, poorly edited, with characterizations and motivations that don't make sense in human terms. Started reading it for a book group. I will sell this on eBay once I'm done.
