Jerry Bridges brings to the forefront sins that become norm to us, sins that may be harder to detect but sin that still hinder our fellowship with God and one another.
Though this book does not dig very deep, I thought it was thought provoking.
You'll probably find yourself familiar with most of the the content but the value is its exposure to these sin. The value will be to prayerfully read through the list of attitudes (sins) and see where you have become complacent in those areas.

This book challenges its reader to all the Lord calls us to in a way that invites, rather than threatens, and holds forth conviction and promise in sweet words of fellowship. The call to holiness has become a deeper pursuit on my part because of this book. I don't simply feel small in comparison to my Savior, but lifted up and encouraged to walk in His big, loving footsteps.

This was a milestone book for me. The discussion on pursuing holiness in key areas of life were challenging and convicting. The chapter on pursuing holiness through my body led to a lifestyle change in how eat and excercise. Great read, very practical and approchable.

I read this book at the encouragement of my mom. Some of Bridges' illustrations and points have stuck with me for the last 18 years. I have reread this book and referenced it numerous times in my teaching of Bible.

A very acurate and true overview of holiness. I kept wanting it to go a little deeper into some issues, explain further a few things, so I was a little disappointed when it didn't. However, it did show me that my committment to holiness is much more shallow than it should be, and that was very valuable.

Our attitude toward sin is self centered: either it's my failure to fight it, or my victory when I overcome it. I read elsewhere the comment that we need to stop saying things like, "I'm struggling with my thought life" and rather call it like it is, "I indulge my lustful, sinful thoughts and am offending God." When we instead think of sin in terms of how it affects God--grieves His spirit or pleases Him when we overcome--then we can better put to use the weapons of the Spi...more

A good companion read to "Sidetracked in the Wilderness" Very simply orients the believer to the correct yardstick with which to measure our walk with God.

I've read this book many years ago and it opened my eyes to the need to walk in holiness toward God, not just in obedience, but in a walk that pleases my Lord.

Word of Life Bible Clubrecommends it for: new Christians or someone who hasn't had much discipleship
My 3-star rating is given only because I found the book to be directed more toward a Christian who is new to the faith or has had little discipleship. The material seems very basic to learning about the process of sanctification and how it works. If that is your need, then this book will be a very good resource for you.
This was my second reading of the book, and I didn't really feel like it challenged me. If you are more mature in the faith, you may find Jerry Bridges' other books ...more

This book took my faith to a new level. I would recommed this book to any Christian. I completed the study guide in the back of the book, which added to the experience. I know I could have read the entire book in a day or two, but I only read the chapters corresponding to a lesson in the study guide each day. This way I could contemplate each one, pray about it, and try to apply it to my life.

[Book] To quote from this link, "When I examine the Scripture and understand what God demands of me, I also understand how far I fall short and how great a Savior was required to save a sinner like me." This book has the feel of a "modern classic"; not one of those pop-Christian books, but rather a book whose subject will (and has) withstood the test of time since it stems from the very core of Christianity.

Jerry Bridges' books are always so easy to read. I got through half in one sitting and it didn't even feel like that long of a time.
A lot of good points but I also feel like a lot of them overlapped with points in his other book, The Fruitful Life. It'll help you define what holiness is, what it means to pursue holiness, what it practically looks like. I like how the entire book is based on this one thing.

Most life-changing and impacting spiritual book I've ever read! Definitely recommend this if you want to gain a deeper understanding of our role in pursuing holiness and what that looks like, and also understanding that God has already done His part in our pursuit by giving us His son, Jesus. There are many practical take-aways on what the pursuit of holiness looks like in our daily lives.

anyone who calls themself a Christian.
I have read this book multiple times, and every time I read it I learn something new. "The Pursuit of Holiness" reminds me that I should want to please God, not just coast through life. If you feel stagnant in your walk with Christ, this book is a great way to energize yourself. If I could only have two books for the rest of my life, they would be the Bible and THIS BOOK! Read it!
