Re-read after lo these many decades. This is a wonderfully warm book that explores the world of Cody, who is newly ten years old. Cumberland mountain is a paradise for him, though he does have his troubles (namely Omalia, his pesky little sister). Cody's experience with riddles is hilarious, and the day he learns how to find a bee tree with his dad's help is a beautiful passage. The illustrations by Ursula Koering are delightful.

Every bit as much fun as I remembered.
This was second-to-none my favorite book as a young boy. I checked it out from the library, then when I found the same copy withdrawn and for sale at the library booksale I snatched it up with my allowance coins. Read it over and over until the pages were torn.

This Boy Cody is about a young boy in Appalachia and some experiences with his parents, his younger sister, and a few people of the surrounding rural community. It's a bit like Little House on the Prairie in that way, though perhaps for an
