I think I have to assume that something devastating will happen in every series that Mead writes. With this one I was pretty much crying from the last 40 pages until the end. Talk about heartbreaking! I sort of saw what was going to happen coming but it didn't make it any less horrible. I'm actually still feeling the effects of this novel and I had to quickly order the next two books to find out what happens.

Incredible! This series continues to get better. This is one of the best vampire themed series’ out there. After my disappointment with other series’ losing there touch, I have to say that it is not the case with these books. Everything that initially drew me in is still there and then some. This is the 3rd Vampire Academy book that I've read and the 3rd Richelle Mead book.... either way, it's not my last!

Leaving book 2 and venturing onto book 3, I wanted to see what was going to happen with the characters that I slowly came to love... What I didn't expect was to have my feelings trashed!!! I fell into this book so thoroughly that I both wanted and dreaded the ending. So frustrating! I want the fourth book to be out now and it's killing me that I have to wait until August.

Mead continues to weave a complex tale with excellent characters. The stakes keep getting higher and her characters are never quite perfect but always enthralling. The dialog, pace and plot are perfect and everythnig spirals out to the end.

Shadow Kiss started off slow, but ended up being great. I really like how Ms. Mead takes things to a level where not everything has a happy ending. It has realistic qualities for being a young adult paranormal book. I felt Rose's pain and confusion as she struggled with what she had to deal with being "shadow kissed". This is the third book in the VAMPIRE ACADEMY series and I highly recommend you read the first two books before reading this one. I read all 400 plus pages of this book in one day ~ it grabbed my attention from the very first and I could not put it down. Intense, suspenseful and full of shocking surprises ~ I can't wait until the next book is released!

As with the first two books, I very much enjoyed being emersed in the world of St. Vlad's. In just three short books Rose has gone from mouthy runaway to seasoned guardian. It was great to see her beginning to question whether she really wants to live her life for Lissa. That aspect of the Dhampir/Moroi relationship has always bugged me. It was also enjoyable seeing Rose put into a position she didn't expect no matter how upset she got.

I will say that I struggled with the pacing this time around. I also felt that the events of Frostbite seemed as if they were being overlooked almost as if they had happened a very long time ago instead of just a couple of weeks. I've always looked forward to Rose's interactions with Christian and Adrian but both characters seemed different this time around, not bad just... as if they weren't being written with their usual stronger personalities. The focus was definitely more on Dimitri and I know many readers of the series adore him but I've always found him boring. I had hoped that the extra focus would make me like him more and approve of his relationship with Rose but I was again unable to find a spark for him. Without spoiling anything I feel it is safe to say that the next book, Blood Promise, will be mostly Rose and Dimitri again. (less)

I was really exited for this book since each Vampire Academy book got better and better. And I was a big bad cheat and read some spoilers on it that gave away the big ending. It was still a total shock reading it though.

Wow. I totally didn't see that one coming. This series just took a whole other turn; it went from a light and fun, but not amazing read, to just that - amazing. Packed with action, and surprises. And a lot of unanswered questions I really want to know about. Definitely have to read the next book like.. now! Can't wait. I mean - what!? Wow.

If I didnt love ~~Dimitri~~ this series before, I certainly do now! The story was excellent and the plot was great (if a little predictable).

I'd have to say that my favourite part of these books would have to be ~~Dimitri~~ the characters. I think Rose is a great female lead and I love all of the Moroi (especially Christian!). I also really like the element that Adrians character brings to the plot, he adds a bit of spunk to the story.

Typos aside...this book is the strongest in the whole series and strong enough to stand up on its own. Where the previous ones were mostly character building, this one actually has a story.

A word on typos, why is it that I'm getting this annoying feeling that typos and YA novels are quickly becoming synonymous with each other?? Is it now the popular thing to do? Spellchecker doesn't exist on your tablet anymore?? Maybe I need to write a book and make as many typos as I can 'get away...more

I'm going to try to do this review without spoilers, but it's going to be hard because the ending -- wow! The first time I read this I finished it at about 1 am, but then I had to keep reading book four because I was freaking out about the ending to this one. "Nooooooooooooooooo," I think I screamed, luckily not waking my sleeping household. Thank goodness I started this series when five books had already been published, and it was only a short month until the final book was going t...moreI'm going to try to do this review without spoilers, but it's going to be hard because the ending -- wow! The first time I read this I finished it at about 1 am, but then I had to keep reading book four because I was freaking out about the ending to this one. "Nooooooooooooooooo," I think I screamed, luckily not waking my sleeping household. Thank goodness I started this series when five books had already been published, and it was only a short month until the final book was going to be released. I can't imagine having to deal with the ending of this novel and then having to wait forever until book four came out. Having said that, now that this is somewhere around my tenth time reading through the series, I was prepared for what was going to happen, but it still tears my heart out. In this book Rose is struggling throughout, thinking that she might be going crazy, but desperate to keep any of her friends from knowing her struggles. It is obvious that Dimitri has moved past his struggles to keep from loving Rose too much, but Rose really doesn't see that. They are both still keeping to their assigned roles in this book, but it seems like Dimitri has lost the battle to keep the relationship purely professional, but still, Rose doesn't see. The scenes between Dimitri and Rose are wonderful. He wants into her mind to help her through her struggles, and she won't allow that, so the back and forth between them really touches me as I read. The scene where Dimitri is helping Rose to clean the chapel and Rose is trying to figure out why he is there -- I just wanted to scream, "Can't you see that he is doing this because he cares about you and wants to spend his time with you?????" Without spoiling too much, let me say how happy I was that finally Dimitri and Rose were able to figure out how to manage their relationship. But then, holy cow, to have the stars seem to align and then have all of that destroyed. So amazingly devastating. I won't say more to keep from spoiling too much, but I'll say that Richelle Mead did an excellent job telling this story. What could have turned into something totally sappy or over the top full of depression, instead got to the point effectively. The event at the end of this book is the second of two big events in Rose's life that will change her forever. Once she goes through this struggle, the novice dhampir Rose is gone and in her place is a stronger, fiercer, more mature Rose. This book was the turning point in the series where I went from loving these books to LOVING these books.

Just to move away from Rose and Dimitri for a bit -- Richelle Mead is a master at creating secondary characters who are not just place fillers, but instead gives them a richness that really adds to the rest of the story. Although this is primarily a story about Rose and Dimitri, the secondary characters hold a special place in my heart. I always loved Christian for the full dimension of his character, but in this book I really start to love him. He may have an outward appearance to the people around him of a bad boy who doesn't care about anyone else in the world, but he has a fierce love and loyalty to Lissa for sure, but also for those around him. His interactions with Rose in this novel were fascinating because they appear to not care for each other at all, but when it comes down to it they do trust each other and their motivations. And, the end of this novel is the beginning of the rise of Adrian as a character. Up to then he seems to play the role of the self-centered, fun loving, drink-and-smoke-his-cares-away character. Rose believes that he is truly superficial. But, by the end it is clear that there is more to him, and there is a vulnerability to him, especially regarding Rose. Adrian is one of my favorite characters in this series, and his actions at the end of this book show the beginning of why he is super awesome in my opinion. Lissa is probably my least favorite character, but she is lifted up by those around her, so her character is strengthened by a wonderful supporting group.

So now I'm off to start book four. Payback begins!!!!(less)

obviously like in all books not everything can be perfect and something we wanted to happen. and in my case it was the fact of the constant times where she saw mason as she was on a trial. i wanted to scream at her, tell her forget about him help christian! but obviosuly my yelling did no accomplish anything in the slightest. and then when dimitri asked her what was wrong and never told him... that was really dissapointing. i wanted her to trust him even if it meant telling something that could possibly make her look mentally stressed and going through a shocked stage.

but at last she told him and then when she got her victory and beat dimitri i wanted to burst up in joy and i jumped up in the air screming in joy and happiness for her!

to add this book was really funny! i love it when rose says to adrian "kiss me" and he's like what and ect. and then later christian is like "WHY WERE JUST ABOUT TO START MAKING OUT WITH ADRIAN!" rose - "it was my therapy" christian - "what kind of hell therapy are you in`!? " well it was something like that! it was really funny though!

so i cant put all my thoghts into this box as it would take ages and i dont know if there would be enugh space! but overall i loved this book and recomend the series to any YA lovers!!!!(less)

The court thing with "prince" Victor was kind of weird... I am sure that he is going to come back somehow and mess things up... again. He got in jail too easily, there is something wrong about this all, I am sure... This queen - Tatiana... oh, I really don't like her - double-faced bitch! She imagines some stupid things about Rose being in love ...more

Shadow Kiss was the first book of Richelle's that I had ever read and I am so happy that I picked up this book. I remember thinking how ugly the cover was, but just reading the first couple of lines I found myself unable to stop. With Richelle, I feel as if you can start in the middle of a series and still be completely sucked in to everything that is going on. I've read all of Richelle's series in a different order and still be able to blown away. Shadow Kiss was no exception!

After losing good friends to a Strigori attack (renegade vamps in the Vamp Academy world) just weeks earlier, Guardian and Strigori Slayer-in-training, Rose Hathaway, starts seeing the ghost of one of the victims. It doesn't help that she sees him when she's in the midst of her field training possibly ruining the destiny she's trained for all her life. At first I was frustrated because it was really confusing and ridiculous with this Mason's ghosts and these things about a secret group circulating the Moroi students. A painfully beautiful and adventurous paranormal romance story! This one didn't astound me like its predecesor, Frostbite, (wow!) but it did move me to tears more than once and held me on the edge of my seat as well. I believe I read this book faster than anything else this length, but it could be a tie with Frostbite (and I've read most of the popular vampire novels written in the past 10 years now!)
