This is a story about a teenage girl whose brother is murdered. The murder goes unsolved and the girl becomes emotionally confused and soon thereafter pregnant. She leaves town to hide her condition, find her mother and research her ancestors. Once the girl leaves the farm the story skips about like a flat rock on water, hitting locations or events and finally sinking out of sight.
