I really loved the artwork throughout this book. It was quirky, humorous and appropriate as well as creative for a chapter book.
I have to reserve judgement on the story itself until I read the second installment because I finally warmed up and began to like the characters during the last chapter. Up to that point, the main character came off as bratty and the situations were too opportunistic. For example, she talks about wanting to see a ghost and in one day (after searching for...more

Through the years, books for pre-teens have been missed by me. I read through a bunch of Hardy Boys when I was in kindergarten, and then I dove straight into mythology and the supernatural. I skipped the books that were meant for late grade school kids, and only now as a father am I really engaging with them.
As a family, we've been focusing on the classic kids books -- like Pinnochio, Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz etc. -- but Miloš & Brontë are starting to read bigger books, and we've...more

Are you afraid of ghost? Well, if yes, Araminta seems to the opposite. She has been looking for her own ghost for years. She live in Spookie House, with Aunt Tabby and Uncle Drac. One day, Aunt Tabby want them to move to another place. She was frustated about the boiler which likely caused troubles. She thought the Spookie House is a little bigger for three of them, she want them to move to the smaller place that she could handle.

About a little girl who lives in a haunted house with her aunt and uncle. Her aunt wants to sell the house and Arminta is determined to stop it with her "aweful ambush". It is a quick, light-hearted read by not a really strong piece of literature.

on a scale of one to five, i'd probably be stretching a bit to give this book a 2.5, but i'd still probably give it that, if only for the vibe that it tries (but fails) to put across. on a scale of what the stars mean when you hold the cursor over them, however, it gets two, just because "it was okay."

J The first in a series of books about a little girl whose aunt wants to sell their crazy, spooky house because it's too much work. For Araminta it's a wonderful home so she thwarts her aunt at attempts to hire a realtor, put up signs, etc. This had touches of humor and I think kids will enjoy all the references to haunted house stuff..the uncle that sleeps with the bats in the attic, the suit of armor that moves around the house on his own, etc. More for earlier elementary ages.
My "Haunted House" is not a "scary story," but it does entertain you with the antics of Araminta, an orphaned girl living with her aunt and uncle in a huge, cobwebby house with lots of spiders and bats. Araminta doesn't want her aunt to sell the house and tries her best to frighten any prospective buyers. Its 5.0 reading level makes it a great read for the younger students. I'm anxious to read the next book in this Araminta Spookie series to see what she's up to in it.
Araminta Spook lives with her aunt and uncle in a spooky, rundown mansion that is so big, she can have a different bedroom for each day of the week. The problem? Araminta's aunt is fed up with the boiler and wants to sell the mansion. Can Araminta foil her aunt's plans? Will she ever find a real ghost? What does that mysterious key open? Check out this first installment of the Araminta Spook series and see.

Aku selalu ngiler buat baca seri Septimus Heap-nya Angie Sage, tapi tak pernah langsung menyentuh-membacanya. Tebel banget bukunya, hehehehe....
Fiuhhh...ilustrasinya juara, deh! B.A.G.U.S. bangeth! Sumpah!

Araminta Spookie has learned from her Aunt Tabby that she plans to sell the Spookie House. Araminta does everything in her power to sabatoge the meeting with the real estate agent, interested business associates and even a well meaning family. She finally finds a ghost in the house that helps her with her Awful Ambush. Great illustrations and well meaning gestures.
I could say that I only read this book so I could help Maddie with her book report. Or I could say that I was intrigued because Maddie told me she had to read the first two chapters twice because they were "so cool". Which are both true. But these books are darling. If you are a third grader, read this series. If you are the mom of a third grader, you should read this series too.
This is a great early chapter book series. Araminta lives with her Aunt Tabby and Uncle Drac in a really big old house. Aunt Tabby is tired of fixing the house up so she decides to sell it. Araminta is not happy and tries to convince the buyers that her house is haunted. Unfortunately, this stirs up the real ghosts in the house. (They are nice ghosts so don't be scared)
This book is really, really good. My favorite part was when Araminta met Edmund, page to Sir Horace. Who, oddly enough is another ghost that lives in Araminta's house. However, Sir Horace is not your average ghost. Sir Horace is a knight, who repeatedly ends up falling to pieces. (Written with help by the lil bit as it was one of her bedtime books).
Just finished this book. My 10 yr old started it and was confused. It doesn't explain the room situation until the very end of the book - as an adult reading, we use our "powers of deduction" to figure it out, but it may be difficult for those who like a straight-forward read. I enjoyed it, it is what it is, pure entertainment!
This is a very charming and cute story about a girl named Araminta who thrives on the adventure that comes with living in a large, scary house and attempts to thwart her aunt Tabby's plans to sell it. I loved how subtly the author put in such clever ideas as Araminta having a Thursday and a Saturday bedroom, etc., as well as Araminta's witty (and often hilariously frustrated) thought process throughout the book. I'm an adult and I smiled all the way through. I think it'd be especially great for ...more
I picked this up after reading Septimus Heap and I can't wait to be able to read this aloud to my kids when they are ready. It's fun and simple, probably able to grab a first grader's attention. I browsed through the series, five book set, and I think anyone with younger kids would find it fun to read together.
Araminta is particularly moody when she learns that her Aunt Tabby is putting their haunted house on the market. She had hopes of discovering ghosts there and is doing all she can to sabotage the house sale. A simple story with lots of spooky convention, I think it will fly well with the high 2nd-4th grade group.
This book is great! It has humor, adventure, and it feels as if the character is right in the room with you. This book might even remind you of yourself or someone that you know. Araminta is a lot like me i think, or the other way around. Anyway i recommend this book to everyone out there who reading.
I think this book was great,I would recommend this book. This book is mainly about a girl named Armintina and her Aunt, Tabby. Aunt Tabby wants to sale the house they're living in which is a haunted house, but armintina won't leave until she finds a ghost, so armintina makes it a battle between tabby and Armintina. She changes signs ambushes anybody who tries to buy the house.Who will win? read on to find out.
This Book was scary. When i first started reading this book i was scared because the title My Haunted House sound like a scary story. The book was good but i got confuse a little bit because it first started like if one of his family member was a slave.I forgot the name of that family member.

I loved this book, and enjoyed it even more the second time through. It was quite unpredictable at times, which is sometimes hard to find in a childrens book. Araminta is sneaky and up to no good trying to keep anyone from buying her house, and finds a few new helpers along the way.
I picked this up because I like another series from this author. I seriously enjoyed this book. It is the same length and age range as the Spiderwick Chronicles but so much more enjoyable. This is a perfect quick read for Halloween especially if you have kids. I laughed while reading it.
This was okay for a kid’s book I guess. It felt a little hollow. I find it hard to imagine that a lot of kids wouldn’t find this book a little patronizing. The illustrations were nice. If you like spooky/whimsical kids book, this one only takes a little while to read and isn’t bad.
I loved this book. What a great story about not wanting to move from the house that you grew up in. Even if it is a haunted house with 2 ghosts. The things Araminta does to 'scare' off would be buyers is so funny. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
