I dipped into this rather than reading cover to cover as we were watching Rome and Spartacus at the time and I wanted to validate things. Or argue with them!

Great overview of elements like entertainment, and societal structure in Ancient Rome. It's a quick read so if you're interested in Rome I would suggest this.
