This book is a treatise on Islamic history from the perspective of a moroccon muslim feminist. Though itcs central premise is that modern Islam has been hijacked by extremism since the death of muhammed, mernissi strenuously defends the actions of modern day extemists against the seeming imperialism of the west. Read in March, 2005
Mernissi's writing style combined with her clarity in tackling often difficult subjects, made this a joy to read. I love this book.
