This book is a bridge halfway book between children of the drake and firedrake chronologically. Origins explained are finishing off Shade's initial story (but not the exact cause of the cursing) and what the library of Penecales is. There is a slight payoff for a character mentioned in the shrouded realm but who finally makes an apperance. It also explains why Penacles was in the Purple dragon's realm and why later purples became so knowledgeable.
