If I could, I'd give this 3.5 stars - definitely interesting and well-written, but not uplifting since there are some super evil characters who harm children! I wasn't sure what to expect from Higgins Clark, but I was relieved she doesn't pepper the pages with profanity. Also good was the fact that the bad guys all lose out in the end. Like I said, interesting and entertaining with a good sense of mystery - but filled with a lot of fear and tragedy.

This story deals with a parents worst nightmare...the kidnapping of your child or children as in this case...but this one has a happy ending...at least for the children and family involved.

The evening of the party, Steve and Margaret attend a black-tie dinner in New York. When they return home, the find the police at their house and the...more

I would actually probably give this like 2.5 stars because I liked it but it was just OK really. I think I need to stop reading her books because they've become so blah for me. Her (earlier) books used to totally engross me and I enjoyed them. While I thought this one was better than two of hers I read last winter, it still was a bit cheesy and somewhat predictable. It's a good, fast, simple read if you're looking for something fast and easy to read, nothing with much depth. The subject matter i...more

I always enjoy reading any book by Mary Higgins Clark. They usually follow a formula, but this one is much more intricate and suspenseful than her usual, and is the best that I have read.
Twin girls, Kelly and Kathy, are kidnapped for ransom at the beginning of the story. The money is paid, but the handover goes wrong and only Kelly is returned. Initially, it seems that Kathy has perished, but the conviction of her surviving twin convinces the parents that she is still alive. Evidenc...more

This is a story of every parent’s nightmare: the abduction of a child. Ms Higgins Clark weaves beautifully the mystery and the drama behind such a terrible event.
The tale starts when twin sisters Kelly and Kathy are abducted from their home and held for ransom. The parents are not wealthy, why have they been targeted? With the support of the husband’s employer the ransom is eventually raised. It is agreed that the twins will be released in exchange for the money…..but something...more

In this story it felt as thought i was sucked into the world of desperation the parents of the little twins must be going through. Every sentence that was written in this book was genuine, and very realistic. I didn't seem able to put the book down for one second. I really like the way Mary tells the story from both the good guys, and the bady guys point of view. All i wanted to do while reading this book was locking myself in my bedroom and reading until the book was over, the only bad thing ab...more

I think I read this over too long an interval. This is a real page turner with a gimmick. Don't let the gimmick fool you, though, the majority of the story is just hard-nosed police drama.
There are several plot twists. About the only thing you could say negatively about this book is that its ending is a bit too Hollywood. (Well, you could also get on it for not actually treating some issues much more seriously than it does.) It's a fun read, but borders on tedious occasionally a...more

I seldom read Mary Higgins Clark. I’ve often picked up one of her books, simply to set it back down when another author’s novel seemed more appealing. I decided to stick with this one. All in all, a good read. It is heart wrenching at times, as the parents are dealing with the kidnapping of their twins.
There were two topics the author included that were interesting. The first is the studied phenomenon of twin telepathy. The second is the fact that people, witnesses, often kno...more

This is an absolutely awesome book. The front cover claims that Mary Higgins Clark is the queen of suspence and I can't argue. She has mastered the technique of inserting backstory and details of the current situation without boring you or distracting you from the story. She gives enough information, making you want to scream at the FBI working the case "You have the answer! You just don't realize it yet!" But she also keeps you in suspense by not revealing too much. Two Little Girls i...more

Read this in one day. It's a quick read (short chapters, which seems to be the key in making readers turn the pages ... writers, take note) and while a little far-fetched, I enjoyed it enough to finish reading it. From the beginning you know who the kidnappers are and what happens to the "missing twin," though until the very end of the story you don't know who masterminded the whole scheme. I'll admit, Clark does a very good job of keeping you guessing ~ I had it narrowed down to two s...more

This was the worst book I've read in a long, long time, and trust me, I've read some very bad books. Two little girls in blue, lad, two little girls in blue...
Not only were the characters flat, without any dimension or real character (imagine that, a character having character, who'd have thought!) but the story lacked a certain little something called depth. Everything I read was surface stuff, with no emotion or feeling. The whole thing sounded like you are being told what happened...more

Mary Higgins Clark...I haven't read her books in a LONG time because I found them predictable and they always seemed to follow the same formula. So either I've forgotten the formula or she's changed...I can't say which one for sure. Still, either way...she is a good writer and I find myself adding her books to my "to read" list.
Anyhow, this book...it was good. Near the beginning I was worried I wasn't going to like it because every time the Pied Piper called, his voice w...more

Margaret and Steven Frawley have just moved to Ridgefield, CT with their 3 year old identical twins Kelly and Kathy. One night while they're at a black tie event the girls are kidnapped and a ransom note demnading $8 million is left on their bed. After paying the ransom only Kelly is returned and they find a note claiming that the kidnappers accidentally killed Kathy and disposed of her body. Communicating via "twin language" Kelly informs her mother that Kathy is still alive and wants...more

Ok it's Marry Higgins Clark - but I read it anyway. I have several of her books in my pile of books to read. It was about time. I have to say I enjoyed the book. I especially enjoyed the short chapters - perhaps they were too short. But it made the book a faster read. The paperback version I had was 389 pages long, but I felt like the book was only 200 pages long.

In one word? Contrived!
I usually find her books to be quick reads and real page-turners. I think the fact that it took me several weeks to read it says a lot. At first, I just couldn't convince myself that I cared what happened to the characters in the book. Once I got far enough to be interested, she put in several twists and turns that made the plot downright melodramatice and we unnecessary to keep the reader engaged. Definitely not her best work.

I'm biased.. I hate reading books that have many characters, it makes it hard for me to keep track of who's who's. Haha. I think storyling is good but I do find it dry and dull. I think I am tired of Mary Higgins Clark's writing style. The reason I read this book is my friend finished the book and gave it. I don't like to give it away without reading it. So I read it, and now I can give it away. To sum it up, this book is not that wonderful, just ok-ok.
