This book was indeed "More than I wished".
Both Luke and Bria have secrets that are not disclosed early on in the story. As usual when something brews for a while, I become wary of being highly disappointed when those are finally brought up to light. Not in this case, both secrets, some of them with multiple layers, were real good ones, that justified the long silence and which require trust in the other.
I really liked both characters. The way their relationship evolves was beautiful - the love b

This is only the second book by this author I have read. I was so blown away by a place called home (the first book I read by jo goodman) that I expected to be equally enthralled by this novel. Sadly, I was a little let down. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the read, managing to completely ignore my education in lieu of learning what was to become of the main characters instead. While I was left satisfied after reading the last page, I find the true measure of a good book to be how much I think ab ...more

I have just recently discovered Jo Goodman's books and am working my way through them. Her writing is captivating and emotive without exaggerated flowery language. She has such great comprehension of her characters, their thoughts and actions were very consistent and making full sense in the context of the plot, very vividly drawn. The dialogue is exceptional, intellectually stimulating, sharp witted and with laugh out loud moments. This book was set in American South in the post civil war perio ...more

This book... just whoa. For a book with such an awful back cover, (it has such a cheap, drugstore, badly-written romance look to it. But only the back cover) it's a pretty decent book. Although it was kind of slow at the beginning. Nothing much was happening, not much suspense. And the first sex scene was the absolute longest sex scene I have ever read. Not that's it's pornographic or anything, it's actually quite a decent sex scene, but it's went on forever. But wow, after that scene it got soo ...more

Loved this book and loved the hero! Took me awhile to warm up to the heroine, but boy once we got her backstory...whewwww! Just wished that the epilogue would have been drawn out, we deserved to see Rand's reunion with this sister...not just imagine it. *sigh*

I liked that the hero and heroine worked closely to rebuild her family's plantation. I felt they were very much equals and partners.

To find characters to illustrate my first family saga, I cut out models from the Sears catalogue. I was in fourth grade, but it was a start. In seventh grade I wrote a melodrama about two orphan sisters, one of whom was pregnant. There was also a story about a runaway girl with the unlikely name of Strawberry and one about mistaken identities and an evil blind date. My supportive, but vaguely conc ...more
