Its 2249, and the world has shifted. Tinkering with geneology has left the world with a shortage of women, and too many men.
Nellie has found a way to keep a career as scientist, not that common among women, and shes almost ready with a serum against the strange disorder spreading when shes kidnapped by a fugitive, a threatening man who wants to keep her captive in a cave.
Kerick has finally escaped Death Row with two inmates, and found the woman he wanted, when she escapes from his protection.

Shelves: fail, science-fiction
This one, I've abandoned.
The sci-fi aspects of it were fascinating, the world-building premise intriguing, thus it got a second star in the rating. But the writer killed it with heaving bosoms (without bothering to indicate that oh, the woman is breathing heavily, hello) and "genetically engineered female perfection" apparently means that all women have boobs the size of watermelons.
Just... bleh.
Be forewarned--this isn't so much book #1 of a series as it is the first part of a single story. It ends on a cliffhanger that has to be continued in the next book, and so on. Not a bad story, although I would have preferred to focus more on the characters and less on the sci-fi, futuristic aspect.
