Maddy Harvey was a bit of an ugly duckling as a teenager, what with her N.H.S. specs, unfortunate hair and wonky teeth. Thankfully she's blossomed since then. But when she meets Kerr McKinnon one starry summer's night and discovers, days later, who he actually is... well, that's when the problems really start. Because everyone in Ashcombe knows what happened eleven years a ...more

I didn't like this book as much as I thought I would. It was supposed to be about a couple that fall in love despite their family's hatred of eachother. But it didn't focus enough on them, it had a lot about everyone else in the town which reminded me of a soap opera. I need a book that really pulls me in and makes me want to keep reading, this book didn't do that. Over all I really wouldn't recommend it, was just an okay book.
If this was the first Jill Mansell novel I'd ever read, it would also be the last. It will be the last one for I while I can tell you that right now. What I love about a Jill Mansell novel is her ability to make me laugh and fall in love with the main squeeze along with the main character. However, I found most of the characters in this novel very vanilla flavoured, been done before and 2D. I wasn't entranced, I finished it because I couldn't stand not to, but that was the only reason. I didn't ...more

British chic lit has a hold on me. Keeps me up into the wee hours of the night to finish it.

I did not like this book at all. Not for a Mansell anyway. If it were written by anyone else, I might have given it more stars, but for Jill Mansell, it was just severely disappointing.

This is my third book for Mansell, and I was over the moon about the first two books I read for her, and thought I would be about this one too - as the reviews were outstanding - but I wasn't.

I didn't like the characters, I felt they were all shallow, and irritating. A lot of it was unrealistic, and everyone seeme

A typicall Jill Mansell's book and this is why I loved it. A lot of characters, many plots, a lot of action, unexpected twists and turns... Just a hillarious read and every time I feel I am getting a little down with the life I just read Jill. It usually helps :) Although I must say that I didn't warm too much to Marcella after this what she's done to Maddy, although I try very hard to understand her. Maybe she was right and maybe I couldn't fotgive as well, but on the other hand - Maddy was her ...more

Nothing like reading a Jill Mansell and Jennifer Crusie book (Craxy for You) back to back to bring the similarities between their books to light. Enjoy them both immensely. Their books involve multiple relationships revolving around a central couple, with the side relationships usually romantic and involving close relatives/friends. The heroine faces a challenge that the others often face in a more diffuse way. Light humor, breezy conversation. Good curl up and read books.

My Review-
3.5 stars! Cotton Candy, oh how I love you! Jill Mansell does it again. This book is totally entertaining and pretty predictable, but it was a great read. Chick lit at it's finest. The perfect thing to help me relax before starting school. I'm a Jill Mansell fan!

Love is always just around the corner in a Jill Mansell novel - with a few surprises and a lot of humour on the way to happiness

The story sounded perfect too bad it was so misleading. There was so little love between maddy and Kerr and frankly I'm a bit upset about it. There were a few cute bits between them but the book was more about the other characters. There seemed to be too many characters, just like Jill mansells other books. It made me lose interest in many character storylines therefore made me resulting to skipping lots of pages

Putting side the fact that all of Jill Mansell's books seem to be the exact same formula, I have to say that I rather liked this one. One thing that I find odd about Mansell is that she is one of the few writers that pull away from the main thread of the story for several chapters to focus on side characters. She has done this in all three of the books that I have read by her so far. Another trope that she uses over and over again is the "big secret", and in all three books there have been more ...more

Very disappointing. I've like other books by this author and will continue reading her despite this unfortunate lapse in her ability to write likable characters and really tell a story.

Really disliked the step-mother - this would not be a problem if she were meant to be a villain, but it's obvious that the author meant for her to be likable.

Ini pertamakali baca novel Jill Mansell. Di awal cerita sdh banyak nama2 bertebaran bikin sy bingung sbnernya tokoh utamanya siapa? Blm lg sy yg amnesia soal nama, jd mesti menghapal dikit2 & hubungannya dgn yg lain. Perseteruan keluarga yg menurut sy agak terlalu didramatisir, Marcella itu kan ibu tiri, okelah dia ibu yg sangat mencintai anak2 tirinya tp kejadiannya udah 12thn yl, yg nabrak April sampe tewas itu bukan Kerr tp adiknya (spoiler : ternyata ibunya). Tp hubungan Kerr & Maddy ...more

Adorei o drama e as histórias.

De schrijfster slaagt ...more

I've read probably 3 or 4 of Jill Mansell's novels, and I enjoy them all. She has the ability to take you on quite a journey of characters and story-lines without losing you in all the twists and turns. "Falling for You" was just what I needed: several intertwining stories about flawed people that find happiness by the last page. Part of me would really like an epilogue, or if I'm being selfish, a whole sequel, because I enjoyed these characters and would love to see how things continued for the ...more

I was let down by this book. The characters didn't seem as believable or likable as other Mansell characters. So far, this has been my least favorite Mansell book.

When you read a Jill Mansell book, be ready for more than what you read in the synopsis. She always has a great many more characters that you will embrace and love to read their stories just as much as the characters and story you were anticipating. Falling For You is no exception. You think you're getting a Romeo and Juliet type story with Maddy and Kerr, which you do (and it's delightful)- but you also get to immerse yourself in the goings on of Kate, Jake, Nuala, Estelle, Oliver, Dexter, Tiff ...more

3.5. I liked it but not as well as other Jill Mansell books. The ending was too abrupt too. I needed one more chapter. Still worth reading.

2.5 stars. I prefer reading stories that only concentrate on 1 or 2 particular couple, not a few in 1 book.

Jill Mansell always writes such lovely little fluff novels. Charming, quaint, and silly are words I would regularly ascribe to any of her novels. This one was cheesy, and predictable, but all of her novels typically are. However the tromp through them, is enjoyable and engrossing, and sometimes that's all I need a book to be. You don't go into some books with high expectations, you know they just can't be held up to intense literary scrutiny. But for serving as a means to pass time and be entert ...more
The main story in Falling For You revolves around Maddy and Kerr and the tragic reason why they cannot be together. As with most Jill Mansell novels there are plenty of side stories that involve people that the 2 principal characters know.

Overall, an enjoyable and easy read. While the story wasn’t exactly unpredictable there were a few moments when I wasn’t sure how something was going to happen. I am not sure if I could pick a favourite character – most were likeable enough and those that were
Prepare for an anedote:

I read this novel quite a few years ago when I was a lot younger and didn't really appreciate this genre yet. At the time I remember really enjoying it - though for the life of me not remembering what it was about - and this fond memory actually led me to continue reading Jill Mansell books when I could actually appreciate.

I did not appreciate this one.

There is a structure to Jill Mansell novels, in which her leading couples aren't really her leading couples. She introduce

Jill Mansell lives with her partner and children in Bristol, and writes full time. Actually that’s not true; she watches TV, eats fruit gums, admires the rugby players training in the sports field behind her house, and spends hours on the internet marvelling at how many other writers have blogs. Only when she’s completely run out of displacement activities does she write.
