Unlike most guide books, this has essay-length pieces of the history and culture on the target country. Venezuela's beauty pageant culture, its cult, if you will, of Bolivar, and its oil wealth-fueled consumerism are all covered in depth. The guidebook also explores the nation from its Caribbean beaches to the tiny German colony Tovar in the Andes. The nightlife and cuisine of Caracas are given prominent exposure.
