Sofie introduced me to Mary Stewart, and I really enjoy her books. I read this one long, sleepless night a few years ago and loved it, and have been wanting to re-read it ever since. I couldn't find it—the cover had fallen off, and I'd placed it safely in a pile of books to repair, and then forgotten about the pile. So when I located the pile and the book, I fixed it up and dove right in.

I inherited this book from my grandmother. Along with other books of hers it has sat on the shelf waiting. I began reading This Rough Magic wanting to learn a little more about my Nan, Mary Stewart was one of her favorite writers and I could just imagine my Nan enjoying the lovely descriptions of Corfu and Greek landscape.
This book is very unlike books I would usually pick for myself to read but I did enjoy it. Stewart has a warm writing voice. It isn't going to reach any top 10 lists for m...more

One of those guilty pleasure novels for me. I started reading some of Mary Stewart's romances after so enjoying the Arthurian legends.
Concerning intrigue on a small Greek island, which a young actress uncovers on a vacation staying her sister, whose husband is quite rich. A famous British actor is staying on with his son, a talented musician, a photographer is also renting from the family. All of these characters become embroiled in the murders that occur. Tied for number one on my list. This is a wonderful book in all aspects. The description of the surroundings and the characters is excellent. The mystery is fun and actually kind of informative about the political climate of the time. Dedicated to Richard Attenborough--you've got to love that.

I really enjoy Mary Stewart novels. They are romance (light) suspense novels. The protagonist is usually some strong, interesting woman who falls into a suspense situation on vacation. There's usually a lot of literary allusions. This book is alludes and follow the plot somewhat of The Tempest (inspiring me to reread it).

I love Mary Stewart mystery books. And this one does not disappoint! I've read this book several times since I was a teenager and I still enjoy it alot. In this one, the main character is an actress named Lucy who is on vacation on a Greek island. There's murder, romance, suspense, and humor. Very enjoyable reading.

This book, and most books by Mary Stewart, have absolutely everything you'd ever want in a great summery mystery. Beautiful settings, some sort of great romantic side story, and a genuinely intriguing and sometimes pretty scary mystery. But this one is my favorite. A great read.

(Genre: Mystery) This book refers frequently to Shakespeare's "The Tempest", a play of his that I am not familiar with. I think that I would've enjoyed it more if I had. But the mystery was still interesting without understanding the play.

I've enjoyed almost all of Mary STewart's books. She's an older author (wrote mostly in the 50's and 60's)but so good at romantic suspense. They're fun to read.

My mother-in-law introduced me to Mary Stewart and I loved her books. She was a master from the old school. I wish there were more books like hers out there.

Well, this book or another of Mary Stewart's. Katie and I are thinking of reading a Mary Stewart book and this is one of the "front-runners."
