Ibargüengoitia is definitely the best Mexican writer when it comes to pointing out the irony of Mexico and the irremisible Mexicanness that we carry within ourselves when we go overseas. Not too long ago, I read an interview with his widow, Joy Laville, in which she pointed out that he was madly in love with Mexico. This is common to every Mexican: we can rant about what we hate about our country for days in a row, but we love it, as Craig Ferguson said, beyond reason.
