Studies a Basque region where industrial agriculture has taken hold and the Basque have been moving out of their farms.

Excellent description of the land, people, culture, history, and collective nobility and why the Basque changed. (More governmental restrictions, rich people building housing on farm land, and tourism and the loss of community, flexibility, and respect for farming.)

Uses aggregate data, cultural analysis, and case studies to compare conditions in 1920 with those in 1969.
