I just finished this book and I really don't know if I liked it. After the first book, I thought I really didn't like it so well, but I wanted to read the second to see where it went. This book was hard for me because of all the violence, I think. I know the world is bad and hard and ugly even, but I guess I would just choose not to dwell on it and read about it and think about it. This book did make me cry and it wasn't because it was happy or good. I'm not sure if I want to read the next one o...more

After so enjoying the first book I found this one to be a bit more difficult to get through. I was especially distracted by unpleasent parts of the book that involved evil people killing and causing wars out of greed and a desire for power. It's not that I don't believe these things are happening, I know they do. They have for so long. It's just that I had a hard time pulling inspiration to do better and be better from the pages of this book. It was more about continuing the stories of the chara...more

Much better than the first book. I was not going to read the second book, but I am glad I did. I am surprised that I am looking forward to the third book. That being said, I am wondering a bit about how this series is six books long. I guess I shall see if it is intriguing enough to keep me going. One good thing for me is that I do not agree with a lot of the author's fictional portrayal of the Spirit World, or of the devil. It is good, as it has helped me think about these subjects on a deeper...more

There is a war of good versus evil on both sides of the veil. Satan and his fallen angels seem to be growing stronger and the people on Earth seem to be growing more and more wicked. When one of the princes of Saudi Arabia follows through on a deadly and dangerous plot, many people are put into play both in the Middle East and in America.

This one is a bit hard to summarize because there is so much going on. I have to admit prior to reading it, that I was rather skeptical of this one mainly becau...more

This second book of a many book series (but I thought it was the second of a trilogy when I read it) is considerably different from the first. We continue to see the lives of the four spirits we got to know well in the first book, as well as the adversary and Baalam, one of Lucifer's followers, but now they are living their lives on this earth. The author does an amazing job of describing technical details about aircraft and explosives, as well as complex political situations all over the world,...more

Volume 1 is interesting but a bit drawn out especially if you are lds and understand the doctrine. There were a few pause to contemplate moments though so it is worth reading. Volume 2 however covers most of the main characters so you can just jump in here. LOVED this book. I read the rest because of this one. From my personal experience in Maryland, Stewart is clearly misinformed on the NSA but...I guess there aren't any perfect authors and I don't think that comes into play until like book 4 a...more

This book was written extremely well. It brought in new asspects to the story, but still rang true to the old. It is a different scene, but the same conflict, the battle between good and evil. Samuel, Ammon, Elizabeth, and Luke are now all on earth, the Father has sent them, his most valiant servants, in the last days to fight againt the adversary. They struggle with the every day temptation man has to go through. They are challenged to remember what they stood for, and what their values were in...more

This book continues the story that began in "The Brothers" and follows Sam, Ammon, Luke and Elizabeth as they are born on earth and begin their mortal existence. Once again, this book really made me think. It really made Satan and his followers seem more real to me. He whispers in the ears of the characters, trying to convince them to do things that will harm them, either physically or spiritually. This makes so much sense to me. The Holy Ghost can whisper to us, prompt us, so it just makes sens...more

Not as strong and intriguing as Book #1 but still powerful.
The characters have now moved from the pre-existance to their mortal lives.
Evil is lurking and calamity is brewing. The stage is being set for the final showdown.
Luke and Ammon are twin brothers, raised by LDS parents. Their father is the top war administrator for the President. Sam is their foster brother. Raised in an ugly and abusive environment and taken in by the Brightons. He becomes a skilled warrior for the U.S. Army.

Wow. Wow. The prose isn't the strongest and Stewart breaks lots of writing rules. And yet...the book really drew me in. It was strong stuff, a powerful read that kept my heart in my throat (yes, a cliche, but that's how I felt). Stewart has a very intriguing idea here and he writes at mach-speed. I know people have said the characters are shallow, and I guess they are, but for reason I care deeply about them.

However, there are some very heart-rending descriptions of extreme and ugly violence and...more

I read the first in this series (The Brothers) about a year ago and thought it was good, but not great, so I wasn't really planning on continuing on in the series. But I keep hearing such good things about it from various people, and finally, when one of the ladies I work with offered to loan me the 2nd book I decided to give it another shot. Objectively I would say it was definitely worth it. It was well written, the story was good, the ending was pretty intense. It's written by an LDS author a...more

I finished Vol. 1 and just sent for this by "inter-library" loan. Hopefully they will: A. be able to find it, and B. it won't take too long.

Just got this from inter-library loan, so since you can't renew books so obtained it moves, along with a couple of others, to the top of my currently reading pile.

Okay....I considered one star here but the reason I don't care for the book isn't really the writing. As a matter of fact some of the prose (as Wesley said about the trees in the Fire Swamp) is "qu...more

Chris Stewart is an LDS author who has written these books (there are three of them) about the premortal life and then those same people on earth during armageddon. They're crazy-realistic and terrifying and make me want to get my food storage RIGHT NOW.

Better than the first book, this one has more action, less cheez whiz. I like the premise of the great war in heaven carrying on in the last days, and the juxtaposition of spiritual war against physical war. We're getting warmer.

Well it was better than the first book in this series, but still not great. Several main characters from the first book have chapters devoted to them in this book, but nothing that relates in any way to the plot of the story. It's as if they are just thrown in so we won't forget them, because eventually they'll matter to the plot again. The dialogue of this book is less cheesey than the first book, but still awkward. I was slightly annoyed at how often the characters receive inspiration through...more

It was dragging on and on for too long, I was already half way and didn't feel anything was really happening. It had a lot of "wink, wink" moments where it was building up to something you knew (wink, wink) was connected to the story in the first book but, even half way through the book, NOTHING seemed to happen. I was waiting for the families to connect, to feel the story was advancing but I kept feeling it was stuck so I stopped reading the book.
I have a friend who has said she loved all the...more

This one was better than the prologue. It catches my attention but I'm still unsure if I really like this series or not. I've already started the 3rd book and it's getting more interesting...

First, this book loses one star for the use of the phrase "So it was that...." Those words should never be put in that order. That phrase should never be used at all, much less multiple times. I'd be cruising along, getting into the story, and then be stopped short by that awful phrase.

That said, I enjoyed this book more than Book 1. It's pretty uneven, but some parts were gripping. I'm really enjoying the storylines for Sam and Azedeh. Ammon's and Luke's storylines are pretty insipid so far, bu...more

For Latter Day Saints EVERYWHERE this book is a must read!
Its a surprisingly realistic story about the relationship between the spiritual and temporal world. For the most part I havn't been all that impressed in church fiction. They tend to put focus in areas that really don't matter. For example, the virtue of main female characters is measured by how blond their hair is...Chris Stewart is an amazing author, insiteful, and thorough in his story telling. Every word is important. The story conte...more

Wow. This book is intense. I really loved reading "Prologue, Brothers" (book 1); this one fits well with the series, but is very different at the same time. Probably because the pre-mortal world and this one are so very different! It has definitely given me a better understanding of many things that are taking place around the world that I have not been able to understand before such as the struggles in Iran and Saudi Arabia's monopoly on oil and how those things effect so many other chain react...more

Well, this book is all about the Last Days and the author's interpretation of world events. It's a fairly gripping story, but I still had a hard time with it. Some parts get lengthy, and I have a hard time with how all the characters we met in book 1 just happen to be together on earth and how they recognize each other somehow. Also, they keep getting saved by angels, etc. and I have a hard time with this also. Don't get me wrong, I believe we are watched over. It's just this characters are bein...more

After not being able to put down Vol.1 in The Great and the Terrible series, it toook me a little more time to get into this book. There are some word/phrase choices that interrupted my connection with the story, and I hate when that happens!

I liked the story lines for Azedah, Sam, and both princes, but wish there would have been more story for other characters and less pagefuls of information about military information. I know that information is crucial to understanding the intensity of war, b...more

The war continues on….I loved that about this book. It’s so fun to see the war that started in heaven resume in earth life; same battle, but different setting. But not just any setting: the world during the last days is cruel, brutal and heartless, filled with hard-hearted, merciless and even vicious people. People have forgotten who they are in God’s kingdom and have given up searching for truth. They seek only power and worldly honor. The fight is intensifying, increasing, and growing as Sata...more

This is the third in Christ Stewart's "The Great and Terrible" thriller.
The plot thickens as Lucifer mobilizes his minnions, particularly in Abdullah, who has murdered his family in order to ascend the Saudi throne. Lucifer instructs Abdullah in his treachery, which includes a believable scenario of dropping a nuclear bomb on Washington DC to remove Israel's support system. The author leaves quite a few story threads hanging, though he did try to suggest where some of the characters might be hea...more

so now we get into present day events. chris stewart writes like clive cussler - lots of action and contemporary events. very exciting and lots to think about. the siblings are introduced in earth life - and it is not what you think. they are not all lds - elizabeth is iranian. and all the middle east events are incorporated into the story. i think the title means where the angels from heaven fall - land - when they come to earth. the book ends on a cliffhanger and i am glad i have the next book...more

The first volume was slower but necessarily so as the author had to set up the plot and characters. The second volume "Where Angels Fall" picks up the pace and begins a fascinating twist of people and stories weaved together. I found myself on edge during some portions of the book and once finished couldn't wait to get to the third book. The author does a great job at using doctrinal facts and some made up doctrine, facts on our economy and the military to put together a truly fascinating riveti...more

Even though I didn't really like the first volume, I stuck with the series. I had heard from other people that it was good. Sure enough, I did like the second volume much better. Right from the start there was no question as to who the bad guy was. I liked the story line of the Muslim family. The father, Rassa and his daughter, Azadeh. They often had spiritual promptings and obeyed them. This shows that God is no respecter of persons. Those who listen and follow, he leads.

The thing I like most...more
