I loved and hated this book. It was dark, gritty, obscene, and enthralling. There were times I wanted to put the book down and never pick it up again because of how uncomfortable some of the debauchery included in the sex scenes made me.However, I loved the characters, Valentin, Sara, and Peter, although Peter is more a secondary character. This was "OH MY GOD...WOW" hot!

I haven't read a huge amount of full blown erotica but this by far would be the most steamy, sexy, naughty, hot, hot, hot novel I have read.

I usually get bored with erotica because to be obvious...it is simply all just about sex and there are only so many ways to skin a cat (probably not the best visual when discussing erotica - sorry).

This book is steaming HOT. I know the couple people on my GR friends list who read this book didn't like it, but I liked it a lot. It's not a lovey-dovey book. There's not a lot of attention to feelings and emotions among the characters. It's basically all about the sexual chemistry and exploration...but I still felt like, at the end, Val and Sara loved each other. It just wasn't a soft thing.

I enjoyed the fact that even though this is a Regency historical, Sara is a very sexual character. Often authors make females from that period much more timid...which fits, I suppose...but I liked reading a Regency female who went all out sexually. I also like the dynamics between the characters. Especially the addition of Peter to the group. I would have loved it if Pearce had decided to make them a full-fledged menage and not just a temporary group. Because it was fairly obvious that what went on between Val, Peter and Sara wouldn't be long-term...and I was right on that. Peter is getting his own book, to be released soon (Simply Sinful).

My one main story-related complaint was that Pearce never addressed what exactly happened to Val all those years ago that resulted in his capture. There is all this talk around it, accusations at Val's Dad, all this supposition, but Pearce never tells the story. So when I finished, I found myself rather annoyed that I was left wondering how - specifically - he was captured and enslaved.

Otherwise, this was a fun, hot book to read. I'd say it's not really for those of you who want to read a sexy romance because as I mentioned before, emotions aren't really the focus here. But if you want to read an erotic romance with oodles of sex that breaks way past the Vanilla boundaries, then you might want to give this one a try.

Warning, this book contains: explicit sex, explicit language, toys, body jewelry/piercing, voyeurism, exhibitionism, some f/f interaction, m/m interaction, group sex, anal sex, double penetration (of the less typical kind), light bondage, references to non-consensual sex...and probably some more stuff I'm forgetting!(less)

Simply Sexual - WOW was this book hot! It's really rare to find a good historical erotic read, but this is one of the best I've read! Highly erotic and sensually stimulating with a intriguing cast of characters and a storyline that will keep your interest throughout the book. I am already in love with Peter, who stars in book 2 of this series, Something Sinful. I am truly looking forward to seeing where his story goes!

I can't tell if I liked this book or hated it. I'm in between. All I know is that I wanted to take a scorching hot bleach shower after reading ~~a few~~ a lot of the sex scenes. They made me feel dirty and skanky and they were not even close to being erotic, or sensual at that.

I appreciated the exciting, sexually-charged energy of the book as well as the visual set-up of the historial setting, rooms, and the character development. This is the best novel, erotic or otherwise, that I've read in a long time. It is a love story with a sexual awaking and a sexual healing. It's about the development of love and trust in a relationship.

This is very realistically written and hard to put down once started. I read it in one sitting.

A verdade é que essa história está lá. O Lorde Valentin é um libertino sem limites que pede a mão de Sara Harrison em casamento, pois acredita que esta é capaz de lhe dar o que ele precisa. Prazer na cama e fora dela, uma mulher que fica fora do seu caminho sem de alguma forma, intervir nos seus outros afazeres.
Sara, por outro lado, sempre se sentiu atraída por este lorde, mas lá no fundo, continua a precisar de amor e de um casamento onde o casal se ame, acima de tudo. Os problemas irão ser alguns até que as duas partes consigam perceber que um casamento funcional é mais do que sexo, é também preciso outro tipo de emoção, além do desejo.

Eu queria ter gostado deste livro. A sério que queria. Ingenuamente, pensei (ou quis acreditar mesmo depois de ter visto as outras opiniões e tendo ficado já com uma ideia clara de como seria ler este livro) que este livro seria um romance de época que além de sexo e cenas eróticas e sensuais, teria uma história com uma base forte para a apoiar.
Não é que me faça confusão ler cenas eróticas. A questão não reside aí. Contudo, o que eu procuro num livro deste estilo é sensualidade erotismo com sentido. E não foi isso que eu encontrei.
O que eu encontrei foi pornografia pura e dura, com orgias, com sexo no sentido mais insensível da palavra e cenas homossexuais. Chamem-me old fashion, mas eu sou uma romântica acima de tudo e embora não queira dizer que as situações que referi anteriormente não podem ser sensuais, para mim não têm qualquer piada e especialmente nas circunstâncias em que a autora as escreveu, não me pareceu existir nenhum sentimento mais importante lá no fundo de tudo.

A história que existia por trás e o passado do lorde Valentin, acabou por ser outra revés neste livro. Estava à espera de uma trama cativante e acabei por ficar desiludida com o desenvolvimento deste história. A relação entre os dois protagonistas não foi mais senão sexo. Em cada capítulo existia uma cena de sexo e existiu muito pouco romantismo, muito pouco sentimento.

Quanto à escrita, não sou juíza o suficiente para analisar este aspecto. Posso dizer que o livro se leu bastante bem, para aquilo que acabou por ser, mas não consegui analisar a sua qualidade de escrita. Se ela sabe escrever e descrever cenas de sexo? Sim.
Se sabe escrever um romance normal, com descrição de cenários, com construção de personagens coerente, num contexto contemporâneo e com uma trama inteligente por trás? Não sei. Creio que o negócio dela é mesmo o sexo, ponto final.

Já toda a gente sabe que o sexo vende. Pronto, é uma verdade inegável. Afinal, esta é uma necessidade primitiva, comum a todos os seres humanos. Contudo, não gostei da forma como a autora vendeu esse tema e como não sou grande fã do género de erotica (muito menos quando em 20 e poucos capítulos, em todos existe sexo) acabei por não gostar do livro.
Achei que a vertente sexual estava em exagero e tudo o que é demais enjoa. Muito menos quando é escrita ao quilo e quando estas cenas não apresentam qualquer romantismo (especialmente as cenas finais).
Gostaria muito que este tivesse sido um livro que tivesse primado pelo equilíbrio entre as suas duas vertentes- Creio que dessa maneira, teria sido uma leitura muito mais agradável.

Esta foi uma crítica algo redundante, mas não posso deixar de deixar claro os factores que não gostei. Este Escravos do Amor deixou muito a desejar e só posso dizer que a minha experiência com Kate Pearce vai ficar por aqui. (less)

A short but heartfelt review. I *love* Kate Pearce's writing, and this is the book which introduced me to her and made me a huge fan.

I'm not doing a summary recap, but I will say that I was enthralled with Lord Valentin Sokorsky. He came to the heroine with a lot of emotional baggage and a bit of denial. But, in the end, he faced it all just as he needed to. He and Sarah were beautiful together, and their relationship evolved over the course of the book.

In this first book of the series House of Pleasures by Kate Pearce, you will embark on a story of past pain, present turmoil, and future healing, as two people learn to live, trust in, and love one another, when it seems as though the world is bent on going against them.

This was not just a first book in a series for me, but also the first time experiencing this author. After coming highly recommended in the area of erotic historical romance, I can testify to the reasons why. Ms. Pearce does a great job at weaving plot with some extremely rich erotic content.

You are introduced immediately to the main characters, as well as the premise of the plot. And while it's not the strongest plot, it does stay consistant and mysterious, making you turn the pages to find out more. The action with both the protagonists and antagonists moves very quickly. So much in fact, that I kept thinking, 'Is it going to end now'? However, that's where the extra-curricular activities between the characters interjects. It's slightly hard for me to explain due to the fact that the plot itself is based primarily around the hero and how he learns to overcome his horrible past as a Turkish sex slave, all while seeking out the person, or persons, trying to destroy everything he has worked hard to create since returning home.

Our hero, Valentin, has sex issues with a capital 'I'. His years living as a sex slave have left him with an insatiable appetite that he often fulfills with anyone willing to help him out. But, when his past rescuer needs his debt repaid, it is in the form of a marriage proposal to one of his daughters. Valentin obliges his savior thinking that it will help him in his own selfish ways. Since Valentine's return home, he has created a wealthy life for himself and business partner, Peter, who is also his best friend and co-captive in slavery. However, someone from his past is determined to destroy his successful business and already delicately concealed past. While he has serious doubts that he will ever be able to live a somewhat normal lifestyle and stay faithfully married, he soon finds that his new bride is not an ordinary 'vanilla' society maiden, and can hold a candle to Valentin's lasciviousness.

Sara is a unique heroine. She's completely naive and innocent, yet bold, intelegent, and highly sexually intrigued -- all of which are beyond the norms for her sex and time period. She's older than most woman who have never married due to her outspokenness, but still has a submissive side, which makes her a perfect partner for the extremely dominant Valentin. And, needless to say, Valentin slowly becomes quite taken with her. But, not so much so that it fully mends his cold, untrusting, and distant heart. It will take every ounce of determination and sexual risk on Sara's part, as well as finding a strong alley in Peter, to heal Valentin of his past, all while saving him from being destroyed at the hands of his enemy.

While there are many very erotic moments in the story, there are also some emotional ones as well. And not just between the hero and heroine, but between Valentin and Peter. I really enjoyed the development of the relationship(s) and the triumphs and failures of the emotion that played out between the characters. You felt for the characters at their weak moments, and smiled with them at their strongest.

Simply Sexual, is just as the title reads. This is a highly erotic story with an easy to follow plot that will keep wondering who is set on destroying Valentin. The story unravels in an easy flow and well paced manor, with Ms. Pearce's writing style being easy to follow, keeping you flipping the pages to find out what's next! And the characters are fantastic! Ms. Pearce has also included some very risky sexual activities that may, or may not, have been realistic during this time period, but the way they are wrote makes you a believer! Simply Sexual is hot and satisfying from the first page to the last!

~*~Final Thoughts~*~

This is definitely an adult category book due to the strong graphic sexual content and language that includes voyeurism, sex toys, piercings, multiple partners, and even a little m/m action. It was obviously a hot read, and I can't wait to read the next book. I'm rating this a 4.5 based on the writing style, the development of the characters and the connection I got with them, the holy hotness, smutastic goodness, and most importantly... because the author has done a good job at making me want to seek out the next book; I need to find out more! The story started out as a 3.5 or 4 and then I subsequently downgraded it. Between 82 and 87 % it was down to a two-star rating. What happened "there" sealed the deal for me - porn movie vibes all along the way. There is this saying: To miss the forest for the trees. There was so much sex I couldn't even see the plot anymore! Jeez, I was so thrilled to read Simply Sexual, but while I was reading this story, my excitement just petered out. I'm all for sizzling hot, graphic, and great sex scenes, but I want the hot sex combined with a decent storyline. And Simply Sexual provided the hot sex but certainly not the latter. Unfortunately. Be prepared for exhibitionism, verrry graphic sex (including oral and some anal play), voyeurism, group sex, and some BDSM elements (spanking, toys, piercings, jewelry). The "hero" likes to f*ck in any place and certainly in any way he pleases. At a certain point it got old and boring and I caught myself skipping lines. Near the end of the story I felt like I was watching a porn movie. Simply Sexual is not for the faint of heart! The book title fits perfectly though.

Val and Sara lusted after one another, but I couldn't feel their chemistry let alone their love. The sensuality was lacking as well, and the story had no depth at all. Sheesh, they were horny all the time and maybe I'm being mean when I say that it must be really painful to have a hard-on 24/7?! Val is so utterly single-minded…And he had certainly found his sexual equal in his own wife - they just deserved each other. Thank goodness!

I got it that Val had a bad childhood and he was traumatized by certain horrible 'events' that happened to him, and I feel sorry for him. However, it's just not only a bad childhood that defines us. It certainly influences us, but we are responsible to define ourselves, and we grow along the way. Avoiding proper communication and not talking about important issues is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. Again, it was just too convenient for the author to use such dumb behavior to cause needless conflicts. I'm sorry to say it but I can't relate to Val's demeanor - he acted immature and childish. Why didn't he talk to Sara? He realized that he hurt her, however he did nothing to rectify his fault. If anything, it was Sara who took all the blame. Ridiculous! Gosh, I was so annoyed. I don't appreciate it when the heroine thinks she has to make up for something that wasn't basically her fault. Val even had the gall to be angry at Sara! Jeez, will I ever live this down? In the beginning of the story I liked Val. In the end I didn't even like him anymore.

What I truly enjoyed about Simply Sexual was my thread during my status updates. That was so much fun! Thank you Jill and Taryn for our enlightening 'discussion'. I appreciate it.

Jill, thank you for the recommendation and so many funny comments we could share while I was posting my updates. I won't hold it against you! Besides, while reading this book, I just knew that you didn't like it either. LOL

I'm not into gratuitous sex, therefore it seems to be a wise decision to not continue reading this series. If you're looking for a steamy story with LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of sex scenes, then Simply Sexual is the perfect choice and provides exactly that. Read this book for the erotic sex and not for the plot though.(less)

Kate Pearce, I love you because your writing managed to keep me attach to this book until the end. This is the first time I read a historical fiction and I’ll slowly start reading on historical fiction in the future.

Anyway, this book is so hot and loads and loads and loads of sex (there, I highlighted it) but too much of it started making me bored each time I flipped the page. I even skipped some of it because it kept repeating the same thing. Hence, 1-love is missing from my rating. Reading abo...more

Um romance cheio de sensualidade em que as fantasias não tem limite.
Este foi o primeiro livro que li da autora. Ao ler a sinopse pensei que se tratava de um romance intenso. Infelizmente tal não se verificou. Acaba por revelar ser antes um livro quase pornográfico de tão descritivas chegam a ser as cenas de sexo protagonizadas pelas várias personagens e que pouco deixam à imaginação.
Pena que a autora não tenha sido tão descritiva na história em si. Acabei por não perceber bem como é que Valenti...more

Já estou como a outra 20 cenas de sexo em 290 páginas lol.
O livro é completamente explícito, mas por alguma coisa tem aviso não é?!
Ao início eu pensava que a personagem Sara ia ser uma daquelas mulheres de força e que apesar do desejo que sentia pelo Valentin ia sempre o ignorar, mas não.
Valentin também me pareceu ter uns certos fantasmas que me pareciam que poderiam ter sido melhor explorados, certo que parte dele estavam resolvidos como ele diz, mas mesmo assim podiam ser tratados de outra fo...more
