the revolutionary thinker in me, the one who questions every single myth and superhero story fed to me while being respectful to the traditions -this book brings it all back and yes in a very tight thriller...

for those who love mythology, history and good stories, this is a must read. i don't have to say anything more.. and for the portrayal of bhimasena - I feel I found something I was searching for..

the human side of the epic, with many parts I was hoping might be included in the way I wanted,...more

Whenever I see this book sitting in my mother's bookshelf, I pick this up and read it once. In the past five years I have read this at least five times. This is a timeless classic, a totally different rendition of a story we have all heard, the Mahabharata.

MT Vasudevan Nair has chosen Bheema as the protagonist of this book. The entire Mahabharata is narrated as a historical tale (than a story of Gods, Demons and the superhuman), in the first person, from Bheema's perspective. About his joys, he...more

Strong, compassionate & empathetic. This work stands like a colossus on the shores of Malayalam Literature. The worlds knows Bheema of the Mahabharatha as a beast of war, the elder brother was a paragon of virtue and the casanova-esque thrid brother was a super star all over. Bheema was treated as a bozo who lumbers around with a club bashing up the brains of the Kauravas in TV and in books. How many of these writers saw the hurt & pain being marked a moron gave Bheema ? How many of them...more

There are so many interpretations and translations on Mahabharatha and Ramayana world wide. Every new translation adds something to the original story. This particular novel foregrounds the Mahabharatha story from the point of view of the 'real hero', Bhima. There is nothing unusual in looking into that epic from that angle. In fact, it is not the first time that one literary work has been subjected to reinterpret or renarrate from the point of view of some other characters from the same novel....more

Hats off to this genuis. Such a brave attempt it is to tell the entire story from a purely human prespective and that too from a very less acclaimed hero in mahabharata, the Bhima.May be its is true that there is a hero in each one of us, after all life is a struggle and everyone you see around is fighting to his/her best.

MT has portrayed the entire story unbiased from the so called superhuman abilities and morale that we are used to hearing right from our childhood about the characters in Maha...more

Redefining the Ithihasa is not a simple job - though the Indian Epics are the inspiration for millions of books ,redefining through the authors view is very tough. The complexity increases if you choose it from Mahabharatha - and that what he done.

It is a look back to the plot of Mahabharatham through the perspective of Bhima.Though we know Bhima is stronger than anyone , he was carrying a shade of funny character. But In Randamoozham we will see the Bhima in different way ,cleaver minded stronge...more

M.T.Vasudevan Nair (or M.T. as he is lovingly known to us Malayalees), a doyen in the field of Malayalam literature and a trendsetting scriptwriter for Malayalam movies, has penned this wonderful novel: the Mahabharatha epic seen through the eyes of Bhima, the second of the Pandava brothers. M.T. is known for his portrayal of the unsung hero, both in literature and movies. Most of his protagonists are vehicles for the frustrations he suffered as a young man, and Bhima is no different. Always des...more

Its a very different version of Epic "Mahabharatha" .Book presents the whole story in perspective of Bheema. Though considered as most powerful among pandavas, most books based on "Mahabhartha" has not given importance to Bheema as person. Here author focus Bheema as person and his love, thoughts, deeds. As a reader i enjoyed and could interpret the "much" heard story in very different manner. M.T Vasudevan follows a classic type of narration and never disappoints even in a single page.

It's a mind-blowing book that showcases a completely different story of the Mahabharata from the perspective of Bhima. Every event is reconstructed from Bhima's point of view. It is so deeply touching and openly critical of the role played by Krishna. The book raises pertinent questions about several incidents in the Mahabharata especially critical instances engineered by Krishna. It's a gripping, must-read for any one who enjoys mythology as well.

An excellent work by one of the few best writers in Malayalam language has produced. It based on the epic The Mahabhaarata.Nair is of the view that the great Pandava owes so much to Bhima he is always relegated to the second place by others at the critical moments. However, critics and scholars of India such as the present descendent of the King of Kashmir has expressed their disagreements with M.T

Altogether a difference experience of Mahabharat from the perspective of Bhima. We get to see a Bhima with a human touch, emotions and empathy who doesn't agree with the popular Bhima's images we see around. And I call it is the greatness of the writer! If one asks me to choose M.T's greatest work among all his praised novelsKalam, Naalukettu,Varanasi, Manju etc etc I, no doubt will go with Randamoozham. A must read Malayalam novel.

Wonderful book on the Mahabharata as seen from Bhima's eyes. I must have read this book, perhaps fifteen years back. But the details of the story and Bhima's agony and his un-heralded bravery and the quiet way he goes about reconciling himself to do his dharma are still fresh in my mind...all enhanced by the beautiful language MT uses to describe these varied emotions...

The epic saga of Mahabharatha retold in such a poignant way that it is difficult to put down. The narrative is so powerful and touching. The characters come to life on the pages, with raw human feelings like vanity, insecurity, loyalty and a myriad of emotions. Narrated by Bheema, the protagonist,we get to live the myths as they happen; not tough to fall in love with the mythical underdog. Simply- blown away!!!

One of the best malayalam books I've ever read. The narrator narrates a tale which we know extremely well, while keeping us on our toes - with his narrative style and this new, exciting, practical and a believable version of Mahabharata. I would say that he brought down Mahabharata from the heavens down to the earth so that we humans can relate to it in a much better way. The author takes the heavenly aura placed around the characters in mahabharata out and tells us that they were humans after a...more

Simply amazing and awesome. I loved it. This is far epic than the Shiva trilogy ad other such works which brings the mythological stories to reality ion a beautiful way. I really would love to see this on the big screen as well. Great work.

This is an example of M.T.Vasudevan Nair's brilliance. He filled the gaps in the untold, untouched parts of the epic to recreate a true classic. From the eyes of the strongest of Pandavas, Bheeman, he tells us the story of human nature, desires and much more. Cunningly eliminating all the supernatural elements in the epic, he makes it the story real humans.

This book can be described in one single word. AWESOME!!!
I bet no one ever would have thought of Mahabharath story like this. The book revolves around the viewpoint of Bheema, who in fact won the battle for pandavas, still didn't get enough recognition. The author had taken lots of pain in writing this. Awesome work, and pity me, since am reading this only after 30 years since this book is published.
