A Seductive Nighttime World. . . Dr. Emily Drake's psychotherapy patients tend to be a little unusual. Instead of midlife crises and mother fixations, read full description

It's hard for me to definitively describe this book as erotica vs. romance. I will say that I enjoyed reading this book.

Emily is the Monster Doctor, a shrink for the monsters. When we first meet Emily, she is trying to help a newly turned vamp who is disgusted by the thought of drinking blood! Emily herself is human, but has always had the ability to recognize the "Other". When Emily is called in to profile a serial killer, it becomes clear that the killer is an "Other". If that wasn't bad enou More...

I read this book awhile back and don't have a lot of recollection of the details of the story however, I do recall having a hard time forming any real connection with the characters but I did enjoy the plot. To be honest, my favorite parts of the book were the sessions with Dr. Emily Drake's psychotherapy patients. A Succubus who wanted to be looked at as more than just a sex symbol, a vampire who didn't want to drink blood... those were some funny characters!

While I think this book suffers from More...

Emily Drake is the Monster Doctor, a psychologist who specializes in helping Others (any kind of paranormal). She is unique in that she can see who is Other and normally know what species they are. It's a huge responsibility and a bit scary to see the monsters around you daily wearing human faces. She is called in as an expert witness on a police homicide and meets Det. Colin Gyth. Oooh, baby do sparks fly. She can tell he's a shifter, but not what flavor, so to speak.

Colin is hiding his dual na More...

This book was a recommendation from November's Pick It For Me Challenge. I ended up reading a different book for the challenge, but this one seemed like a good story and I couldn't be happier right now that I chose to read it.

There was hot, explosive and raw chemistry between the hero & heroine. I liked Emily's character (shrink for the Others, Monster Doctor, LOL) and the fact that, while being human, she can sense/feel SBs (Supernatural Beings). Co More...

Emily Drake has seen monsters all her life. Shifters, Demons, Vampires and lots of other creatures that go bump in the night. She’s a shrink with a thriving clientele of Other creatures Vamps that can’t drink blood, shifter’s that can’t shift even a succubus that wants to be thought of as more than a sex symbol. Emily is also has strong empathic talents which she often uses to help her patients.

Colin Gyth is the lead detective in a brutal homicide when his boss tells him to get Emily to take a l More...

You should know...
that the plot was at least four stars.
it was Colin that was the problem, really.

normally i go for hot alpha shifters. but there needs to be balance, you know? hard and fast is all fine and good for a while but if theres no development it gets a little boring, or well, mechanic i guess. the chemistry was missing for me. he ordered her around too much, pissed me off when she was being interogated, and he wasnt exactly a romancer. like, at all.

But the plot? thats the only reason More...

Nice read.

I bought this book because of the interesting story-idea of a psychotherapist treating supernaturals in trouble: vampires afraid of blood, succubi wanting true love intead of sex and so on. It sounded hilarious to me, like my kind of humour (admittingly not shared by everyone).
Reagarding humor and being hilarious, this book was greatly disappointing; although one or two scenes deal with that kind of funny stuff in the protagonist's practice, this book is not excessivly funny nor mean More...

As far as I'm concerned, this book is hot before, during and after midnight. I really liked this story, the first of the Midnight Trilogy. Emily Drake has been able to see the Other (as in all mythical creatures) ever since she was a child. Now she's a shrink to the things that are the cause of what goes bump in the night. That's actually a rather cute idea. When savagely mutilated body of a demon turns up, an old friend and Captain of the Atlanta PD calls her in for her help.

Detective Colin Gy More...

I love Cynthia Eden's paranormal romance novels and for me, this was the one that started it all. I love when I start reading a series at the beginning and the writing and characters only get better with time, and this is a very good example of that. While not the most polished book by this author, the bar is set very high from the getgo, the romance is spicy and sweet at the same time, and the characters are interesting and easy to root for.

One of the common issues that has to be resolved in a More...

This is my first foray into books by Cynthia Eden and I'm happy to note that it was a very pleasant trip. Well...perhaps pleasant isn't quite the right word...

Dr. Emily Drake is a very special psychologist. She sees demons. And vampires. And shifters. And a legion of Other supernatural beings that inhabit the world alongside us. She's one of the few full humans who know of the existence of Others but she's also got a bit of a leg up - she's the only one she's met who can sense them like she can. More...

As soon as I picked up HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT I knew it was a winner. The plot grabbed me straightaway and wouldn’t let go. The pacing is terrific, the dialogue snappy and believable, and above all the storyline and romance are hot, edgy, and exciting. All the ingredients for a great paranormal romance.

The story follows Emily Drake, a psychologist who has a psychic gift when working with “the other.” The Other includes demons, vampires, witches, and the like. She is also working as an adviser to More...

I loved this story. Colin and Emily were likeable characters that were dynamic and interesting.

Emily Drake was a psychic empath who was a psychologist to the Other, supernatural beings including demons, shifters, charmers, etc. Brought in on a case by our hero, Colin Gyth, a detective for the Alanta PD and a shifter, Emily's life takes on a roller coaster pace. She is used as a profiler for a highly public murder where the suspect butchered his victim, thus being dubbed the Night Butcher.

This book was a great read!!! It had mystery, romance and supernatural beings with special powers. Cynthia Eden did an amazing job with this book because the characters were complex and their interactions with each other only gave us just enough of a glimpse into their personalites and what they had experienced in their lives so far, to help the reader relate to them.

The main female character, Dr. Emily Drake, is human and psychic with the ability to see whether a person was human or Other and c More...

3-1/2 stars. This was a pretty good shifter romance. The paranormal world was unique but not totally different and out there. The heroine was a human who could see Others and tell which sort they were. In this set up the different types of Other could only recognize their own specific type of Other. The element of mating was of the "she's mine" sort which I personally like. It's not really something I get tired of since it's one of the reasons I read shifter stories in the first place.

Emily is a psychologist who treats the "Other", for example she treats a Vampire that gets sick around blood and a succubus who wants a meaningful relationship.

Colin is a detective with a secret. He is a wolf-shifter..the most dangerous kind. He keeps the fact that his is "Other" secret to blend in with the human world...not to mention that he hasn't had the best experience coming out to people that he cares about.

Emily has a power as well...she can sense the "Other" and distinguish exactly wha More...

Sometimes I just wondering how on Earth Atlanta becomes such a usual and perfect place to put every sups creatures. Magic Bites (Kate Daniels series), for example, takes place in Atlanta. Why South, anyway?

Back to the review. *sighs*
It's just a usual shapeshifter book. A woman, human, becomes the mate of a shapeshifter. Emily Drake can see the 'Others' through their glamours--or whatever they put on to look human. And then The Night Butcher, a killer, prowls in the city of Atlanta. Colin Gyth's More...

The chemistry and heat between Emily and Colin is scorching and sizzles off the page. But that wasn't all. I loved this story. Everything - the different POVs, the mystery, the outcome, the characters, the suspense, the world Cynthia has created. All of it! Actually, I enjoyed it so much that I've already ordered the second one in this trilogy. And check out the third one. Lovely cover, but so long to wait between books. :(

This story grabbed me from the very first page, so it's no wonder that I More...

Very good read - a paranormal page turner with an action plot. Romantic suspense/urban fantasy with a serial murderer plot and there are some unexpected twists before the murderer is finally revealed. The heroine Dr. Emily Drake, the so-called Monster Doctor, is drawn into a serial murder case - first to identify the paranormal elements of the case and then as the profiler on the murderer. The hero is Colin, a cop who tries fiercely to deny his werewolf nature and is appalled to find that Emily More...

This wasn't a bad book but it could've been better. The pace was alright, the mystery ok enough to keep you reading if not a bit predictable. The characters, however, were a different and more complex story. Emily Drake, a supernatural creature -Other, as they are referred in the book- psychologist helps out the police in a murder investigation with abnormal circumstances. She gets called in by a, what I can only call, good old friend, the Captain Danny McNeal to aid detective Colin Gyth in this More...

The premise here is good. The mythology is imaginative, drew me right in. But the relationship between the leads wasn't as well done as I would have liked: the attraction between Emily and Colin happened so quickly - upon their first meeting - that it didn't feel right.

As far as the characters themselves go, there wasn't enough back story on Colin for me to really take an interest in him. Sheer animal sexuality (no matter how masculine, powerful, protective, hungry, possessive) just wasn't enoug More...

Dr. Emily Drake is a therapist to the "Others", vamps that have blood phobia's, or sex-demons looking for a meaningful relationships. Detective Colin Gyth is asked to bring her to a scene to determine if the murder was done by an "other". Upon seeing him Emily's sensitivies that she possesses allows her to sence Colin's tightly held secret that he is a shape shifter himself.

This was good, but don't think it's a paranormal romance, it's more a paranormal erotica as you really don't get the "roma More...

Emily Drake is known as the monster doctor. She is one of the few non 'monsters' who can see and knows a great deal about monsters. So her therapy practice is chock full of monsters (vampires, weres, succubi, charmers, demons etc.) as patients. The police captain, Colin and Emily know the killer is Other and going to kill again but trying not to let humans find out about this whole other world wit More...

“Hotter after Midnight” is a first-rate book. Dr. Emily Drake sees “others.” Others are the monsters - vampires, shifters, demons, etc. who live their daily lives unknown and unnoticed to humans. Detective Colin Gyth is a shifter and the detective in charge of the murder investigation. Together they find and eliminate the More...

This story revolves around Dr. Drake a shrink for the after dark crowd. Like all good paranormal writers she has little things in her mythology that makes this world her own. And this world is definitely hers.

I have read many Urban Fantasy / Paranormal Romance, but this is the first book that I would have to give an adult label. It is an excellent story that has a few explicit sex scenes in it. The truly interesting thing to me was that the sex was totally integral to the story. It was raw, hot, More...

The funniest part of this story was the beginning for me. A vampire with a blood phobia, but Dr. Drake had a solution for her patient. Psychologist to the Other, Emily Drake's patients were creatures from stories that were meant to scare small children, were actually real. Emily must help catch a serial killer before she becomes his next victim. Detective Colin Gyth has a secret, but will his secret save Emily, or will it destroy her. Gyth's partner, Todd Brooks is pretty boy who will draw a sus More...

Pure animal magnetism~ I'm addicted!

This is a great murder mystery held tightly in an erotic embrace. How would you solve a murder in which some of the victims and possibly the murderer was from the "Other", supernatural beings that should be kept from human knowledge? You call in the Monster Doctor who can sense the "Other". Pairing her with the gruff yet sexy Colin and you have quite a hot pair working to solve this mystery.

My first Cynthia Eden book and I LOVED it. The cop story, romance, and paranormal elements wove in and out nicely, each supporting the other. Very picky about my paranormal romances. Too much "other" world or too much attraction based on "I can't control the animal in me; I have to have you" and it's a miss for me. Colin was an alpha-jerk at the beginning, but was toned down to acceptable. And I'm happy to say that the relationship grew based on an emotional connection and not lust alone. Plot a More...

Dr. Emily Drake is psychiatrist to the paranormal. She listens to the woes of vampires who have blood phobias and succubi who just want to find true love.
