Why was this a 4 and not a 5? I already had read "If You Survive" and Eric Remarque has engraved his initials upon my heart.
However, with that being said, this book just reconfirmed, solidified, hardened, made stronger, made firmer, and any other synonym that goes with the previous adjectives, my belief that I think if America had been bombed to hell, scorched, burned to the ground like Europe was, then maybe we would think twice about some of the skirmishes we've engaged ...more

This is a soldier's (a medic actually) story of his experience in WWII. It is a tough read, but I can't stop reading..... war is AWFUL!!!! Being in the right or wrong place at the right or wrong time seems to have a lot to do with who survived and who didn't. One final statement of his upon seeing the skyline of America when he goes home and being grateful this war was not fought in "our backyard" made me feel so sad for those who did have it in their backyards.....
This is a great memoir of an American soldier who fought in WWII.
If you ever want to read what it's all about - read this book.
Want to get right in the foxhole with these brave men? Well this is the book for you. Irgang puts you right on the front lines. Along with Bill Guarnere & Babe Heffron's Brothers In Battle, Best Of Friends and Don Malarkey's Easy Company Soldier this book is one of the best accounts of battle from the front line soldier's perspective that I have read.
