This book starts with a Big Misunderstanding, not one of my favorite plot devices, but I ended up liking it.

In this story, the Big Misunderstanding is a case of mistaken identity. Jake Wallace, a paramedic who works with Chicago FD's 4th Battalion, had agreed to be one of the bachelors to be auctioned in a charity event. Unfortunately - or fortunately, if you consider how things worked out for him in the end - the graphic designer company that was responsible for making the programs showcasing the bachelors' photos and bios had a mishap and and switched Jake's bio with another bachelor who was a kind of a gigolo. Honestly, it was hard to believe that no one noticed that mistake - if I were Jake, I'd be at least interested in having a look at the program - but I went along with it. I guess I have a higher tolerance for the Big Misunderstanding plot when it's used to bring the H/h together and not the other way around.

Maddy Turner, who had a very dysfunctional family and, as a consequence, was wary of love, was at the auction with the sole purpose of bidding on Bachelor #19, who happened to be Jake due to the mix-up in the charity's program. Not that she wanted a date with him or anything, she just wanted to prevent her stepmother from cheating on her father with the "gigolo" bachelor. Naturally, Maddy's idea to ditch Jake after "winning" him went up in smoke the moment he laid eyes on her. He wanted to follow through with the date - and more, if she was willing. And so they went, and the case of the mistaken identity kept going on... Even after Jake finally discovered that Maddy thought he was a gigolo! Silly man, didn't he know that lying to her could only lead to disaster?

Anyway, this was a quick enjoyable read and even though I didn't love it to death, I liked this author's writing and I'm curious enough to want to know what happened to the "gigolo" bachelor who had his bio switched with Jake's, so I'll have to read Heated Rush, the next book in this miniseries.

This took me back a decade or two. The writing and the story were like something I used to read when I was still “borrowing” Mum’s Harlequins, and although I enjoyed the nostalgia, I’ve moved on. Not only did the references to a then popular TV show, the gay jokes, and the playful ixnay to kink date the book, they made me think less of it. Well, maybe not the ixnay to kink as much as the name Grey’s Anatomy.

I absolutely LOVED this book. The second I started it I was completely hooked. I didn't like how late in the book the big mistake was revealed, but by the end it didn't make much of a difference.

I found this one in the free reads section on the Kobo website. I visit there frequently to see what little gifts Kobo is giving out. So the synopsis doesn’t really do it much justice. There is actually some romance in this one, as apposed to just sex. The plot allows for some funny scenes. I’ll give you a little extra info that the synopsis does not. Despite all the cliche's, ice princess, auctioning off gigolos for charity, and the paramedic with the heart of gold, this book was cute and fun.

The bios and photos of two bachelors are mixed up. One is a blue collar paramedic while the other is a rich jetsetting stockbroker, an expert at pleasuring women.

A fun read with compelling characters. The story is well-composed, with a thoughtful, coherent and tight plot. The premise is believably established but really, really annoying in and of itself. Thankfully, Kelly has the hero realize fairly early on what the heroine's misconception is, and gives him a reasonably appealing motivation for continuing the charade for a bit. So, first, I have to admit I chose to read this cuz the main character's name was also Maddy and I don't see that very often.

I was surprised at how much I liked this book, I could relate to the Ice Queen. The drama in this romance was tolerable for the most part. characters were believable 90% of the time. Bedroom scenes? Hot. I'd almost be willing to give this five stars if it wasn't for a few things that irked me:

Due to a mix-up at a charity dinner, paramedic Jake Wallace has been labeled Bachelor #19, a high end male gigolo, when in fact, he's Bachelor #20. So he's very, very surprised when he is "sold" for a high bid of $25,000. Maddy Turner is at the fundraiser under duress. She's there solely to stop her slutty stepmother from cheating on Maddy's beloved father. She writes the check to the charity and is ready to forgo meeting her "purchase" and just get the heck out of there. Imagine her surprise when Jake not only insists on meeting her, but insists on taking her out. Not that Maddy has any interest in fancy dinners and dancing. Yes, she's from a wealthy family, but she's really a simple person. And one who hasn't dated since being screwed over by her lying, cheating douche bag of an ex. So Maddy is intrigued when Jake offers up a baseball game as their date. It's something Maddy has always wanted to do, so she agrees to go, but certainly isn't going to think of it as a date. Not with someone who is nothing more than a prostitute. So she's shocked when they get to the game, and she's disrespected by a drunken fan, and Jake nearly kills the guy. She's further shocked when Jake makes with the (delicious) dirty talk at the restaurant they go to after the game. And absolutely gobsmacked to end up making incredibly hot, dirty love with him back at her apartment.

The next day, Jake needs to leave to go work his 24 hour shift as a paramedic, but is surprised to find Maddy more or less shoving him out the door with not so much as a "thanks so much, see you soon." He has no idea what changed or why until she tells him that she most certainly does NOT pay for sex, which of course, completely offends him.

Maddy's sister lights upon the idea that Maddy should call Jake and engage his "services" for 30 days. As president of a bank, Maddy can certainly afford it, and her sister can tell she's more than little turned on and intrigued by this man. So Maddy calls Jake, and makes him a huge financial offer to spend the month with her. Jake figures if he can't make Maddy fall for him in 30 days, their relationship is going nowhere. So he agrees, without correcting Maddy's assumption that he's a prostitute.

And there's the rub. My biggest romance pet peeve is love by deceit. I hate it. It makes me want to smack the lying party in the head. Especially in this case, because Jake is so freaking likable. Except that he's a liar. When he finally does come clean with Maddy, she takes it like a champ. Barely even getting angry -- unlike, say me, the reader. I wanted her to make Jake pay. I wanted her to force him to grovel. But it's more like, "Maddy, I'm not a prostitute, I'm a paramedic. And I gave that giant check you wrote me to a charity." "Really, Jake? OK, no problem. I totally understand." SIGH.

The book itself is a fun read. Maddy is a chilly, but interesting character, who I wish had a little more growth, but really, she exists mostly to showcase the awesomeness that is Jake. Jake is a paramedic, a perfect son, a loving brother, he rescues kittens and puppies and people. Hell, he saves Maddy's dad's life at one point. HE'S ALSO A LIAR. And he got off scott free.

The fact that there was no grand apology or grovel lowers this otherwise entertaining and fun book from a B to a C for me. If you don't have issues with love by deceit as a trope, you'll most likely not object at all to this story from Leslie Kelly. For me, I'll try something else by her because I really liked her voice and would have found the book entertaining, if I wasn't so aggravated at how easily the hero got off on what to me is a mostly unforgivable romance hero sin.

Final grade: C(less)

This story is created around a misunderstanding – a mistaken identity. A fledgling graphic company has misplaced information about two of the men up for auction at an upcoming charity event. They have a 50/50 chance of guessing right … they are wrong.

Madeline is the polar opposite of her beautiful sister Tabitha. She is responsible, hard-working, and has morals while Tabitha lives life in the fast lane. When Tabitha gets word that her step-mother is about to buy a man at an auction, Madeline shrugs it off. But when Tabitha reveals that this particular man is a male escort, the two hatch a plan to thwart their potentially promiscuous step-mother. Madeline goes to the event and outbids everyone, effectively purchasing the gigolo for an evening.

Jake is a paramedic and has been finagled into auctioning himself up for the good of charity. While standing back stage, he catches sight of Madeline and is intrigued. Imagine his surprise when the woman he is attracted to is the one who wins him. But his plans go sideways when Maddy bolts. Jake is perplexed, obtains her information, and sets out to make good on his paid-for evening with Maddy.

This story is pretty cute and incredibly hot. While much of it is predictable, I was still drawn into the characters and their mistaken assumptions. Maddy is the type that sells herself short. She works her tail off and leaves little time for herself to do other than fantasize about a life outside of work. But Maddy is unaware that her whole family wants to see her happy in love with a lot less focus on work. She ends up offering to pay the persistent Jake for his services: services that include escorting Maddy to a wedding and posing as her boyfriend for a month. This is what Jake does for a living, so the situation should work out well for both of them, right?

Jake takes a while to figure out why Maddy has made such assumptions about him. When he does, he vows to make her see the real him and what they could be together. But not just yet … first he has a job to fulfill. Jake is the all-around good old American boy. He has his values and priorities straight and he is a gorgeous paramedic. Yowza! Did I just say Yowza? *face palm* That was a bit much perhaps. Anyway, I enjoyed my time spent getting to know Maddy, Jake, and the story surrounding them as secrets and truth come to light. But let me caution you that this story is not for the faint of heart – or rather those that offend in the presence of rather descriptive sex scenes because there are plenty of them. Hey, Jake’s supposed to be an escort, so why not play the part, right? Paramedic, hot sex … I’m trying to see a down side here. But in the end, we are treated to a story in which love just might be found in the strangest of places and circumstance.

This wasn’t slated as a book to review. It came as a freebie on my new ereader, so I was just playing around with the whole thing, started reading this book and had it totally read before I knew it. It’s that much fun.

Madeleine is in a crazy situation again all due to her sister, Tabitha. After bidding huge bucks on the sexy gigolo at an auction that benefits children, the one her sister is sure is the target of their two-timing stepmother, Maddy now has to retreat gracefully while not succumbing to the man’s charms. And that’s becoming quite difficult.

He can’t believe the sum someone’s willing to pay for a baseball game and hot dogs, which is what Jake is offering to the lucky winner of his auction. When he realizes, however, that the woman who made the highest bid is the beautiful goddess he spied while waiting his turn to strut onstage, he’s more than happy to get to know her. Too bad she doesn’t feel the same. But a higher power is at work when a stranger gives him the information he needs to find his mystery lady.

Finally giving in to the man to spend the day with him, Maddy figures that’s the only way to get rid of him. She’s in for a surprise, though, at how easy he is to talk to, to share with, to fall under the influence of his charm and his smile. If only he didn’t take money to be with a woman they might have something she’d like to explore further.

Jake is intent on telling Maddy the truth when she blurts out who she thinks he is and why she bid on him, but he decides to go along with her crazy scheme to see how far she’ll go. But once he knows he’s in love with her, telling all is much harder than he’d expected when there’s a chance she could walk out of his life.

Maddy is afraid of love, actually doesn’t believe in it since no one in her family has every truly found it or benefited from it. Whereas, Jake comes from a family full of love. You know she’s falling hard when she asks Jake to stay for her scheme and you hope she finally gets over his past and sees what’s right in front of her.

These are two terrific characters. They have fun together despite everything. The sex is sizzling and romantic. I enjoyed the way Jake melted Maddy’s ice princess facade little by little. The secondary characters are quite varying, most having an impact on Maddy and her perceptions.

This is my first book by Ms. Kelly and it definitely won’t be my last. I had a lot of fun with her characters and her writing. I look forward to more of this kind of fun in the future.

I haven’t read a romance for quite some time and I’d forgotten how much I could simply enjoy a book. Getting lost between the pages of an old-fashioned love story is probably one of the most enjoyable things in life.

For a FREE Harlequin Blaze book, I actually really liked this one! Although the heroine has some serious TSTL moments, I adore the hero. It was actually pretty entertaining to read how our heroine, Maddy thought that Jake was a gigolo. LOL! That's the dude in the next book, guys. "Slow Hands" by Leslie Kelly was my first ebook reading experience, which was why I chose a free (!) trashy romance that my sister promised was good. It was: I blew through 3000 plus iPod pages in a few steamy hours.

Jake Wallace, a paramedic, is roped into participating in the bachelor auction to repay a favor. What neither Maddy nor Jake knows is that a mix-up in the bachelor bios has occurred. Maddy (and others) think Jake is the gigolo. Maddy “buys” him out from under her step-mother, then tries to avoid him. But circumstances and other people intervene.

I really liked the characters in this book. Maddy is refreshingly *not* a perfect size 2 blond. Even though she has a lot of (family) money, she has a job and seems to enjoy normal activities like baseball and eating burgers. Jake is a nice guy, too, who is at first offended when he realizes that Maddy thinks he has sex for money. But unlike romance novel heroes who piss me off, he doesn’t blow a gasket, accuse her of all kinds of horrible deeds, and make the misunderstanding worse.

I initially worried that this “big misunderstanding” about Jake’s line of work would be drawn out past plausibility, but that didn’t happen. Jake – as noted above – figures out that there has been a misunderstanding, lets it continue for a while, but then comes clean.

The sex is pretty steamy and fun.

However, the story takes place over only a few weeks, and that is one of the weaknesses. It’s hard to believe that two people could truly fall in love in such a short time, but at the same time, I understand the limits that this short novel format imposes. There simply isn’t space to draw the story out further.

The only other drawback relates to something that was never addressed – again probably because of the length of the story. Jake and Maddy come from *very* different backgrounds and social classes; true love can conquer a lot, but finding a happy middle ground where they can both happily coexist would be a challenge.

Overall, though this was a quick, sexy, fun read. I’ll definitely be looking for more of Ms. Kelly’s books.

My first e-book! Yay! Ok onto the actual book. Slow Hands was my second book from the Blaze line and I liked it a lot more than my first one, which was a collection of short stories that were so short I didn't really buy the chemistry. In Slow Hands Jake and Maddy actually get the page count to get to know each other to make the story believable.

I usually don't read category romances. When I do, they are recommended by friends on Twitter or in the blogosphere. So taking a chance on a category is kind of a big deal to me (even if that book is available for free from the Kindle Store). What I found was a sweet, sometimes silly story. Madeline is a rich workaholic from a wealthy family who are all notoriously bad at relationships of the romantic variety. Jake is an "all-American boy" who loves baseball, hot wings, nachos, and women with curves. Luckily, Madeline loves all those things too.. er, except that last one. But she is one, so that's okay. It basically starts out with Jake spying Maddy from behind a curtain where he's getting auctioned off for a charity. He is instantly drawn to her because she looks very different from the other women at the event (she happens to be the only brunette) and she seems "out of place" there. She has come to outbid her stepmother on a European gigolo who is also at the auction so that her father's heart doesn't get broken again. Thanks to a mix-up in the program, Jake is sold as the gigolo instead of the Chicago Paramedic (the fact that this book is in Chicago = <3), and the relationship begins with Maddy thinking he's a man who has sex with women for money. Mind you, she's still drawn to him. Irresistibly, in fact. And he won't take no for an answer.

It sounds like I'm ragging on this book. I'm really not. I really enjoyed the silliness, and Maddy has the sense when she realizes her mistake to not blame Jake for going along with it (once he, of course, realized what she thought of him). What I didn't really enjoy was how faultless Jake came out of the whole thing. He was kind of the perfect guy, except for one moment of weakness when he verbally seduces Maddy in front of their waitress. Of course, it leads to mind-blowing sex, but he has a few moments of guilt for not being a gentleman.(less)

Cute little love story, nothing spectacular. Maddy comes from a family that seemingly can't stay in love. Sure they can all fall in love over and over, but it always ends badly. So she has built walls around herself and calls herself an ice princess. It doesn't help that her ex cheated on her.

This happened to be my first book by Leslie Kelly and I actually enjoyed it. I am looking forward to reading more of this series in the future.

This book was good although it did have one of my least favorite elements, lying. It annoys me greatly when the hero and heroine lie to each other or it could be just one of them. I suppose in this case Jake lied for good reason but I'm not so sure. I mean he could have easily told Maddy the truth as soon as he knew since there is good chance she wouldn't have believed the truth.

I really liked the hero and heroine in this book. I thought the hero was a little too good to be true, but that's not such a bad thing sometimes. I enjoyed parts of the story, but I had a few issues with the storyline.

1. The misunderstanding between the hero and heroine borders on a little icky for my tastes. I got over it, but there was definitely some cringing on my part.

2. The heroine's family was too over the top.

3. The heroine's "realization" seemed a bit far fetched.

This story centers around a classic case of mistaken identity - the all-American, hunk of burnin' love that is Jake is mistaken by the female lead for a jaded gigolo on the auction block. What follows is hot sex and sweet romance. Gotta love it.
