BIG Spoiler alert!

The ending of this circus melodrama caught me really off-guard. From what I understand, a movie was made out of this story, but I've never watched it. I only heard about this play because I read the author's wonderfully haunting short play, "The Serpent's Tale" (definitely worth checking out. It's free online).

At first, I resisted the idea of "He" (the pseudonym our protagonist gives himself) poisoning the woman he "supposedly" loves. But maybe I misunderstood the character an
