My kid bought me this book for Valentines Day. Since he's five, we won't really judge him on his lack of literary tastes. Yet. Give him a few years.

Sentimentally, I read it. And then I hated it. Her writing seems to be aimed at the barely literate. She uses small words. Short sentences and repeats things over and over. Then again. And again, just to make sure the point was made.

This book. It made me feel less intelligent, just for having read it.

I am not a huge Danielle Steel fan but this book's title, "Sisters" and blurb on the back caught my eye (I am one of three girls so ya, I have sisters). Interestingly enough, I didn't completely hate it. It had the makings of a good story. However, there were some serious turnoffs about it. The major one being the author's characters are almost, in a sense, overcooked. For me, I prefer to have the characters remain a bit pink so they retain some flavor! I, also like to develop my own More...

Awful, couldn't finish.

The characters were "too perfect," and the father absolutely pathetic when he doesn't visit his daughter in the hospital because it's just "too hard." If I could talk to the book I'd tell the girls to get over themselves and to the dad to grow a pair.

Doesn't even deserve one star.

I love the way the book opens for you. There are four sisters in the book and the first four chapters are dedicated to introducing you to them and their current lives. Sabrina(a successful lawyer in Manhattan), Tammy (a successful t.v. producer in Hollywood) , Annie (an aspiring artist living in Florence, Italy), and Candy (a globe-hopping supermodel). Their family ties are very strong and always drop their own lives to celebrate family holidays together with their parents in Conneticut.

Danielle Steel is a fantastic author - one of my favorites. I have many - but not yet all of her books. I'm looking forward to buying what I don't have, and reading them. All Danielle Steel books go on my keeper list - a list of my personal favorite authors. Sisters is well written and one of my favorite Steel novels. I also revisit earlier books by Danielle Steel. I recently reread "Going Home, and look forward to rereading more of Danielle Steel's earlier novels." More...

This is the first book I have read of Danielle Steel in over a decade. I stopped reading her because it was the same story over and over with different settings. Most of her books dont come with descriptions on them, so when I was in the bookstore the other day, I was surprised to find this book with one. It sounded interesting, so I gave it a chance.

It seems she is trying her hand at a new kind of writing. She had too many details in the beginning and then seemed to cram as much inf More...

In this very weak novel from Danielle Steel we are told the story of a year of emotional tumult in the lives of the four Adam’s sisters. The youngest is twenty-one year old Candace known simply as ‘Candy’ around the world due to her super-model status. Next is twenty-six year old Annie a perpetual art student thanks to the financial support of her parents, after studying for art degrees in Rhode Island and Paris she is now living in Florence to learn painting techniques of the old masters. Sisters caught my attention when I was walking around Borders, I read the description and was excited to read it. I'm all for independent women leading successful jobs or doing something they like and I love it when women conquer over hardships in their lives. I thought this would be a great book to read, at least I thought I did.

The first chapters of introduction were quite nice actually, I enjoyed reading about the different lives the sisters led and it amazed me how close they we More...

The book I read is called Sisters and it was written by Danielle Steel. This story is about four sisters in their 20s and their parents. The oldest sister is Tammy, she is in her late 20s and works in the show business. After Tammy came Sabrina, she is a couple years younger than her big sister and is an advocate. The third sister is Annie, she is an artist that lives in Italy. Tammy, Sabrina and the parents all live in the USA. Finally, the youngest sister is Candy. Candy is a very famou More...

This is the second book I have read by Steel - well, nearly read, seeing as I couldn't finish it. The first one - Coming Out - was bad. Very bad. But I thought everyone deserves a second chance, and tried this novel. What a mistake that was.
While yes, the accident did bring a small tear to my eye, it soon became pretty apparent that there was no use in crying over this book, as it is completely unrealistic. The sister goes blind - a tragedy yes, but it's amazing how the metal pi More...

Sisters by Danielle Steel was a light read that was full of drama. I would not recommend this book for guy, its a girl book, as i said before its full of girl problems and drama.
This book is about four sister. Candy, a gorgeous model on top of her game, Tammy, a T.V show producer whos show is now on top, Sabrina an excellent divorce lawyer, and Annie an inspiring artist living in Italy. Everthing is perfect in there lives. They had a perfect childhood, perfect parents and are ab More...

As much as I wanted to like the book, I have to admit that it's a little hard for me to imagine the characters and their relationships. Four sisters... all beautiful, talented, and they're close to one another and to their parents. I don't really have that in my life. One younger sister. And we barely even talk, much less be best friends and confidantes of one another. So in that aspect, I can't relate. But I liked the idea of it... how a family is thrown into the worst possible situations, and More...

The best part about this book is how awful it is. Hilarious! Candy the Model is THE ULTIMATE Mary Sue. But my favorite part is when the artist sister gets in a car accident, which does no damage to her pretty face or green eyes on the outside, but the doctor can see on the X-ray that her brain is like totally broken and she is going to be blind forever. Oh, and she will have extra brain damage if they don't operate. Immediately. "Oh no!" her sisters think. "She would totally hate More...

This was a book club selection. For the most part I did not like it. I don't like fiction that is so unbelievable that it is difficult to get into the story. I don't like perfect people who name drop designer clothes and flashy events with celebrities.

I liked the stories premise but I did not like the dialog. I read/listened to the book on CD. I do believe that influenced my opinion of the book. I did not like the person reading the story.

To be honest, I read a lot. I li More...

I picked up this book because being the only daughter of my parents, I miss out on the joy that sisters share. I have read this book twice till now, the first one being the more enjoyable one.

Danielle gives us a peek into the lives of four young sisters, each living a different life. The girls are lovely, successful and every thing what any girl wants to be. Much of what they have achieved is due to the fact that they have strong family grounds and parents who have confidence in them.

I read this book when I was 18. I have never completely hated a book before... Until I read this one.

I felt like I was reading some below average high-school student's creative writing essay which they wrote the night before it was due.

The book gave me the impression that the author had run out of ideas and/or didn't put much thought into writing it. How this piece of junk was allowed to be published is beyond me.

The story-line was OK and could have possibly b More...

My latest audio book for while I am working out. I have loved her stuff in the past so I am hoping that this one will be just as good.

This one was so amazing. While I was listening to it and working out, I quickly found myself in tears. Danielle Steel's stuff usually does this to me, but I was hoping because I was active and doing something that I wouldn't cry over it. This book definitely had its sad moments, but the main reason it was so sad was that the characters were so well dev More...

Danielle Steel - Sisters
Bantam Dell, 2007

Steel takes her readers into the complex world of a family as four sisters weave in and out of each others' lives, growing and changing together. One of Danielle Steel's greatest strengths as a writer is fleshing out her characters. Once each sister enters our minds, it is as if they are our lifelong friends. She masters the art of intimacy and familiarity with her diverse characters. Her choice of plot is brilliant in Sisters. The moment w More...

I picked up the book because of the title and the blurb on the cover. I love books about women working together and helping each other. 4 very successful adult sister are close to each other and their parents. They gather for the annual 4th of July party and tradegy strikes. The mom is killed and one daughter loses her eye sight in a terrible accident. The sister decide to rent a house and live together for a year to help Annie who lost her sight to become adjusted to her new circumstances and t More...

More...

It's one of the most awful books I have read in my life.
After Silent Honor, I expected something great from Danielle again, but I was very wrong. Story is so-so. Everything seems so perfect it's pathetic. Her style couldn't be worse. Anyone could have written it better, even 15-year-olds.
I was feeling awkward while reading it. The sentences are annoying, and so are the characters. Sabrina annoyed the hell out of me.
And I have to agree with one of the reviews here, Danielle repea More...

Back in high school, I used to read Danielle Steel's books one after another. Have moved on since then though. 'Sisters' has interesting characters and a good storyline but DS tends to repeat herself to prove her point. I love the beginning of the story when the characters were introduced, and the aftermath of the accident which was so heartbreaking. But I find that there were some story lines not fully developed as the story progresses. Maybe that's because DS concentrated the beginning part to More...

Ah, what it must be like to live in Danielle Steel's world - where are the main characters are beautiful, perfect, and happy. And if you forget, you'll be reminded of it several times. My favorite part of this book is when, after a family tragedy, the family doctor gives one of the sisters a bottle of Valium to distribute at her pleasure. Hello! Isn't that illegal? What if she then subsequently sold them, was caught, and then hauled off to jail? Who would be responsible - the sister or the More...

Redundant. That's the first word that came to my mind as I was about 3 chapters into the book. This is the first actual book I have read by D. Steel (love the movies!), but I found her writing a little high schoolish and less 'I've written sooo many books, I've got this thing locked down'. She spends way too much time on the tragedy and not enough time on how they move on from the tragedy. Plus, it's expected that there is a happy ending, somehow I was wishing it wasn't so clear cut, but that m More...

This is a book about four sisters and events that take place in their lives that strengthen their already strong bond. I received it as a Christmas present from older sister (appropriate). I haven't read any of Danielle Steel's books in a really, really long time. I appreciated the premise of the book since I am close to two of my sisters. It is a very easy read and at times too predictable, too simply written. I thought she could have spent more time on character development but that could More...

I'm about half-way through this book. I haven't read a DS novel in about 15 years. This book has reminded me why I really don't like her. How repetitive can a person be? Seriously, the central issue is that the mom dies in a car accident is the sister is blinded from a head injury. Do you SERIOUSLY need to repeat that over and over and over. I think we know WHY everyone is feeling “sad.” If I ever wrote that a previous book I read was the worst book ever, I was wrong. Sisters is truly the worst More...

Since the Adams’ family is so busy, they hardly ever get the chance to visit at the same time, though they usually manage on the fourth of July. The morning of the fourth of July, Jane realized she needed to pick up a few things at the supermarket for their party that evening, and Annie decided to go with her. On the way there, they got in an accident where Jane flew out of the car and instantly died, while Annie was taken to the hospital. After about eight hours of surgery, the doctors came to More...
