Vince Flynn is an outstanding writer of fiction. He reminds me of Dan Brown in that he researches his subject matter very well so that it seems in some respects like a non-fiction book. He introduces his characters well such that you rarely need to look back to refresh your memory about which character he is referencing. Moreover, the dialogue between and among characters in the book, as well as transitioning from scene to scene is extremely smooth and natural. Chapter length is typically be...more

I like novels that feature a maverick kind of character who belongs to a super-secret agency and travels around the world to foil evil terrorist plots to kill countless innocent civilians. I can't read two of them consecutively, but they are exciting and involving.
There are enough twists and turns in this story to keep you involved, but I found the characters a little too two-dimensional. Mitch Rapp, the maverick whose wife and unborn child are killed by assasins who are really aft...more

I am in the middle of a bunch of 5- and 10-page-per-day reads right now, so when Donna told me this book had a lot of "really ruthless stuff in it," I, of course, took the bait. Mind candy. Three nights to finish it, and I wasn't even pushing myself. Nevertheless, if it were possible to give this book a "minus 5" rating, I would. The story is O.K., and there IS a lot of cool killing action in it, but what ruined it for me were the grammatical and proof-reading errors. N...more

Vince Flynn is a Twin Cities writer who reads like a DC policy wonk who hangs out with CIA types. Wild guess is his sources are Clancy on tech things and Cheney on policy. Like his others, this one is fast, furious, fun, great!

Another stout work from Vince Flynn, not for the faint of heart and left wing advocates need not apply, please take this as disclaimer, this book deals with very violent and disturbing issues, many of which are beyond the scope of most sheltered CNN understanding. Be ye warned. But the thing that attracts me to Flynn's writing is the no nonsense attitude that should be more alive in our current political system. But alas we are led by the elite few, a week group of appeasers and politically corr...more

Mitch Rapp is at his most human and realistic in the series, as are the other characters. A powerful Saudi hires two assassins to kill Mitch Rapp following the death of his son during the events in the previous book. The assassination attempt fails, but at great personal cost to Rapp, and Mitch hunts down everyone involved in the conspiracy, including a Saudi prince, former Stasi officer, and French assassins, and wages his own, private and very ruthless war against terrorism for the first time....more

Mitch Rapp is a guy with a different view of his calling. He does whatever it takes to protect his country and loved ones. He sometimes fails, and uses methods that are illegal but appreciated by everyone he saves. How much he resembles actual people who work for our nation is unknown, but he truely gives meaning to "the end justifies the means". It is all fanciful action fiction of course, but a good read with the good guy wins ending.

I enjoyed Hugh Hewitt's interview with Vince Flynn so much I thought I'd try out one of his books. Having never heard of Flynn before, I wasn't sure what I would be in for.
I randomly grabbed Consent To Kill and wasn't disappointed - excellent detail, believable characters, all rolled into a Clancy like thriller.
Rated this one a 4 not a 5 star simply because halfway through, I got the impression Flynn was ready to call it quits - the depth and detail of the first half of the book ...more

Dick Cheney would love this guy; maybe Laura could get George to read
Politics, assassination, revenge; typical Vince Flynn/Mitch Rapp mix. Becomes personal when Rapp's wife is killed as part of an assassination attempt that goes wrong. Enough politics to get the reader considering the path the U.S. is on in the "War on Terror." Even includes a little real humanity and compassion. Lesson in this one: don't even think of being a professional assassin if you want what everyone thinks of as a "normal" life.

My intro to Mitch Rapp and the CIA Assassin, who defends this country from the Muslim extremists who threaten it on a daily basis. A believable tragic hero, with both strengths and flaws. A must read, Vince Flynn actually interviewed political figures, former CIA Agents, and did extensive research to make this as believable as possible, without compromising our national security of course :)

This book begins a well plotted 3 book arc in the Mitch Rapp Series. The characters (esp. villians) will be reappear in the next two novels Act of Treason and Protect and Defend. It's the beginning of more character driven writing from Flynn. The plot is pretty obvious, but it sets up the next two very well.
I must admit it is somewhat formulaic, but you've got to love it when Mitch hits the Homeland Security's top aide with a heavy file. Yes, it's about brawn rather than brain in m...more

A truly sensational book. This book is about a Man who works for the CIA and tracks down Terrorist or terrorist-associated people and kills them. After somebody is hired to kill Mitch Rapp (main character) and targets his family it gets personal. A book full of action and nonstop excitement. A thriller I could not put down until I finished it and have read several times since then

Veangeance - the ulterior motive. And Vince Flynn harnesses that emotion into the contest of today's undercover world where the unrewarded guard the unknowable. I believe that Flynn, in this book, takes us very close to what is really going on in the world today. A world we choose to ignore because if these heros fail, it will be a world that ceases to exist as we know it.

This was an awesome book! I found this book on the book shelves at work and the cover caught my attention. I have never even heard of Vince Flynn, but I noticed that it was a political thriller, so I figured I would check it out. Excellent choice!! I was very pleased with my decision to read this book and think I found another favorite writer. I didn't want to put this book down, and I will definitely be looking around for all of his other books.

This spy fiction book was well written and had good character develpment and plotting. A good read -- it kept me interested and waiting to see how things would pan out. I will read the other books in the series. Can't say this is great "literature" but it's a good book for the beach, airplanes, easy reading, etc.

This book was a fast read. The characters were well developed and the plot moved at a great pace. However the ending was not quite as good as I had hoped. Which is the only reason I gave it 3 instead of 4 stars.
I would still recommend it overall.

Very good book again by Vince Flynn. I felt this book was a very good, but the ending felt rushed. Throughout the entire book it was suspensful, until the end, where it seemed like Flynn crammed the ending into 20 pages. I would've liked more here.
