First of all, I completely missed the events leading up to this mini-series (Infinite Crisis, 52, & World War III). I went into it blind, because normally you can pick up a miniseries and just join into the story. I was able to glean a good bit of info about prior events from it, at least enough to know what was going on, so it actually achieved this aim alright. As for the story, it was decent if you are into the true anti-hero story. It's about a man obsessed with his true love and on a qu...more
The character of Black Adam was nearly an unknown to me until I read the series 52 by DC Comics. Since then I have really enjoyed him as a character and here is no different. Peter Tomasi delivers a truly sad story about what someone will do to get his love back, no matter where it is. Adam is a remarkably scary yet believable protagonist and antagonist at this same time. This book is clearly for DC Comics readers. New readers will get the basics of the story, but the writer clearly expects you to know the history of Black Adam (especially in his relationships to Albert, the Marvels and Isis), and of aspects of this world (the Lazarus Pits, the secret societies, the JSA and JLA).
Beyond that... This is the morbidly engrossing story of a villain’s obsession with his one redeeming virtue: his love of a truly good woman, who was taken before her time. In this period...more
