C'est un bon petit polar à l'ancienne, comme souvent dans ces anciennes éditions du Masque. Tome 5 de la saga de Sir Henry Merrivale, j'ai eu besoin d'un petit temps de réflexion pour retenir les personnages et leurs relations vu que je ne connais pas les tomes précédents mais ensuite, la lecture m'a ravie et je n'ai pas su deviner qui était le tueur. Pour vous donner une idée du style, Sir Henry Merrivale est un peu comme Hercule Poirot: légèrement arrogant avec des idées farfelues et un sens ...more

I haven't finished a book so fast in ages. Which, yes, is a testament to my failing concentration, but also to the true brilliance of my beloved John Dickson Carr.

The last book I read was a Gideon Fell novel, and somehow, when reading them (even though they're brilliant), you forget about Henry Merrivale, and that that series is not only a collection of whodunnits, but sort of spy novels as well. Fiendishly complex romp from Carr!This one features no impossible crimes and is more akin to Buchan's 39 Steps than Carr's usual locked room stories.It is full of secret agents in disguise,mysterious experiments and derring do.It is a real page turner and well worth a read.
