Todd Wilson
Your house is a disaster, your kids seem out of control, and you wonder how you'll ever make it through another day of school. Your 'get up and go' has 'gotten up and went'. You used to think homeschooling was the best thing since sliced bread, but now you're feeling like burnt toast. Take heart--you're not alone!

It's an encouraging book. A short read. One of its goals is to make you know that no one is quite as perfect as they seem to be in nine specific areas (home, meals, marriage, capabilities, etc.). So, that was nice, but I don't think I really buy into the lies so that part of the book was a nice reminder but not extremely personal or super anxiety relieving. It did encourage the reader to be real so that you don't become a discouragement to someone else. Which I had not thought of. And am not sen...more
This book just spoke to me, loud and clear! Most of these "lies" he writes about, I have believed as truth, over the last 5 years! Some of them I have probably even been guilty of perpetuating and I now know how best to remedy that! I pray that God gives me the strength to stop believing the lies and remember that only I and my husband, and most of all our Lord and Savior, know what is best for our children! Wonderful and easy read. I look forward to getting my hands on a copy of his book about...more
Todd Wilson is a great writer and an even better speaker! His great sense of humor, wit, and wisdom definitely shines bright in this book. I really appreciate his focus of encouraging homeschool moms in their God-given mission. He does a good job of debunking commonly believed lies that many moms are discouraged by and I did find that I had fallen under the influence of several of them. It was great to have my eyes opened to them and I am now working on resolving their negative impact in my life...more
This is a quick read, but very truthful and encouraging. I want to remember to be real and not perpetuate the myths/lies discussed in this book. My children are not geniuses, my house is pretty messy at times, I don't serve 100% healthy food, and I certainly don't have it all together. But we are having fun and I do believe my kids are getting the education that is best suited for them. This book will encourage you to keep on homeschooling : )
I neither loved nor hated this book. I found it odd to be written by a homeschool father yet I appreciated his viewpoint too. I actually found myself laughing out loud alot so I am either completely twisted or I have a healthy sense of humor. My only real complaint is that I would have liked to see the Word more. The Truth that battles the lies we face as homeschoolers should come from the Word and I think that is what the author tried to do. It is hard for me to put into words my hesitation fro...more
Very encouraging book. Reminds me not to buy into the lies. We attended Todd Wilson's workshops at the state homeschool convention and we both loved him. In fact, my husband was the one who told me I had to go to his workshop on the Lies Homeschool Moms believe. He has a great sense of humor and can really speak to the lies we believe.
This was a straight forward, very truthful, consistent book written by a homeschool Dad and Christian speaker. It was very enlightening, and freeing to read some of the Lies that homeschool mom's believe and why they are lies. I highly recommend this book to anyone feeling that they just aren't good enough at homeschooling.
Another great book by Todd Wilson. I really love his humor and his honesty.
In this book he looks at the common 'lies' we homeschoolers all seem to believe like "everyone has a clean house except me" and "everyone else's kids are really obedient, talented, smart, etc". He points out the lies and then shows WHY they are lies and how to feel differently about them.
I so identified with many of the points made here and it helped calm my fears and doubts. If you are at all worried you're not doing a...more

Wow. I heard Todd Wilson speak at a homeschool convention, and came home with this book. Funny, but cut to the quick. Great plea for stopping "pretending" to be the "perfect" homeschool mom and for all of us just to be real, and encourage and cheer on each other. I read it for the humor--I'm keeping it to remind myself I don't have to look like Hannah Homeschooler to be doing a good job.
