This is a truly great suspense novel. The plot is tight, interesting, with a great paced storyline. During the information gathering section of the book, action is provided by the daily activities aboard a Coast Guard vessel. The author spent 16 days aboard a Coast Guard ship doing research and it really shows. It reads like she spent 20 years working for the Coast Guard, at least to an outsider.

Recommends it for:
people who'd like to read thrillers in Alaskan settings
Mr. Smith and Mr. Jones are planning something big. The problem is, they are the only people who know the details. In fact, almost no one knows they even exist. CIA analyst Hugh Rincon does, however. He also has reason to believe that these two mysterious men were responsible for the explosion that killed a lot of people in Pattaya Beach, Thailand.
As Hugh gathers information, he discovers that terrorists Smith and Jones plan to do some serious damage from somewhere on the Bering Sea to his home...more

This stand-alone thriller from Dana Stabenow was so plausible and that made it a somewhat frightening read. Korean terrorists have decided to launch a dirty bomb over a well-populated area of Alaska and it's up to a CIA agent Hugh Rincon and Sara Lange, a Coast Guard XO and his estranged wife, to stop them. This is an extremely well-researched book. I felt as though I was aboard the Coast Guard cutterSojourner Truth. The novel was well-plotted and kept me reading.
Taut thriller, with the Coast Guard in the forefront. Sara lange and Hugh Rincon were in Prepared for Rage, but I don't remember exactly how. Riveting story of being on a Coast Guard cutter out of Alaska, boarding other ships and fighting against international terrorism. Life in the cutter explained really well. Stabenow deliberately let the reader think that both Koreans and crews were loaded onto the same ship. Confusing later to find out there were two.
I have read and enjoyed several of the Kate Shugak stories. I was a little disappointed when I ordered this online from the library, received it and found it wasn't Kate Shugak. But it turns out it is really a clever and complicated mystery about terrorists. Everyone is so focused on the Taliban and Al Queda they neglect to consider the threat that comes from other countries.
I really enjoyed this book. Not only did it have a great story line but it was full of technical information that was very interesting. I imagine the author spent a great deal of time researching this book.
There is a small picture of the author inside the back jacket. She looks very youthful to be so knowledgable. I very much mean this as a compliment.

I found this author via Diane Gabaldon's "Methadone List" -- books she recommends to addicted fans while they pine away for more Gabaldon stories. The Methadone List has never let me down
Stabenow writes very well, adds lots of unexpected twists and does not disappoint in any way. Finding a new favorite author always makes my day ::: happy feet in motion:::

Good mystery for a day off or to take along when traveling. Built around the fears and tensions of our post-9/11 world, the story involves a complicated plan to launch a dirty bomb, the lone CIA agent who figures things out but can't get anyone to believe him, and the crew of a Coast Guard cutter that is the only thing between the terrorists and their target. Oh yeah, and one of the officers on the cutter is the estranged wife of the CIA guy, just for good measure. It starts out a little slow as...more

Dana Stabenow was born in Anchorage and raised on 75-foot fish tender in the Gulf of Alaska. She knew there was a warmer, drier job out there somewhere.
