It has come to my attention that Fruits Basket will from this point forward... BE PISSING ME OFF TO NO END!!! OH MY GOD! I thought this one wasn't going to contain too much of the stupid but NOOOOOOOOO! I was wrong. It had stupid, i.e. Akito. That douche needs to perish! Right now! Argh! I was quite pleased with the beginning of the book. It was expanding Machi's life and what she went through. It's a bit... sad... as is eveyone's life in this manga... but it was good seeing that she had more of...more

Another volume with lots of Yuki and little Tohru or Kyo. Much of this book focuses on Machi, Yuki's friend from school. Like the rest of the character in this book, her life has been a sob story. She's suspected of trying to kill her little brother. Not true at all. She adores her baby brother. Her parents are convinced that she's horribly jealous and is a monster of a girl. When they saw her placing a blanket over the baby, they assumed she was trying to smother it.

It's interested ...more

Yuki and Machi are totally precious. I was hoping he would find someone since Tohru is so obviously attached to Kyo. He finds out that Machi can't handle perfection. That's why she's been trashing rooms and messing things up. The cutest part is when they're sitting next to each other in a meeting and someone sets down a brand new box of chalk. She looks at it nervously and he just reaches over and breaks a piece to ease her mind. It's so sweet!

The chapter with Motoko is short, but cute...more

More Yuki/Machi interaction with some light shed on Machi's backstory. I LOVE the very last scene in that chapter where Yuki breaks the chalk because he knows Machi has issues with things being "perfect." That right there is totally why I've come to like Yuki so much.

Hiro and Kisa have grown quite a bit, which leads me to another aspect of this series which I think works so well: the characters actually age, not only emotionally, but physically. They're kids, so of cour...more

Synopsis: Fruits Basket is a shōjo manga series created by Natsuki Takaya that follows the life of Tohru Honda. When the series begins, Tohru is living in a tent in the woods after being recently orphaned when her mother died in a car accident. Somehow, Tohru is able to remain optimistic despite all the shit she has had to go through.

While wandering through the forest she's living in, she runs across the house of the Sohma family. As it happe

I liked this book because it showed a lot. What I mean by a lot is that now I know Rin really does wants to protect Haru. Also that Akito hates Rin. I am still confused about that. I mean Rin did hate Akito all her life. So I think that Akito hated her back because Akito wanted to be loved, not hated. But Rin never understood that. It wasn't really a surprise to me when Haru said that he loved Rin. I didn't think Rin would be so girly and calm when she was a little bit younger. But it seemed lik...more

This was another very enjoyable volume in the series. I was happy to see more of Rin again--she's been such a fascinating character to me, so I've been enjoying seeing her again. Machi, as well, gets a bit more of a spotlight, and she's really growing on me as a character.

Right from the start this manga had me hooked. How can you not like Tohru? She has to be one of the sweetest people on the planet. All the hopes of breaking the Sohma curse fall on her head. It was interesting to see the relationships grow and change throughout this series. Not only are the characters great, but the storylines were fantastic, although somewhat depressing at times. This is the one series that everyone should read. It was outstanding.

This is basically the only manga series I can really tolerate. I'll admit, I was really sucked into the romantic triangle, and I LOVE astrology and any kind of zodiac, so that definitely pulled me along. It gets a little exhausting by the fifteenth or sixteenth book (really, I know it's manga, but how many can you make?!) but I just have to read them. Getting a real ending (and you do get one) is worth the wait.
