This isn't one of the stronger volumes of Furuba, but all the great character interaction is still there, along with some startling revelations (well, startling if you haven't already been spoiled). Kureno's revealed background is quite believable for the character, and of course Akito's totally screwed up secrets are great, but I was disappointed with Shigure's actions and the reasoning behind them (this is what you get when you're fond of a slightly amoral character!). Great development of the...more

This volume pissed me off to no end!!! I LOVE IT! XD I know... I'm a contradiction... it runs in the family. *Shrugs* But I'm not kidding! I was really upset with how most of this volume had me pulling my hair out! And when I got up to a certain point I was like, "Nani? Eh!? USO!!!!!!!!!!!!" Really... I'm so flustered right now. However, as I've said before, when something can make me feel so angry, so upset, that's how I know it's something great. (It's like Code Geass but that's something else...more

Finally we get into Akito's head. I've spent the past 16 volumes hating Akito for his cruelty toward the rest of the Zodiac. I wondered if learning his story would make me like him any better. After reading volume 17, I still hate Akito. I pity him more. He's had a tough life and a horrific mother, but this seems to be par for the course for the Zodiac members. All have horrible childhoods and none of them are as mean as Akito. Despite his caustic personality, it's amazing the devotion the Zodia...more

I think I may not have read this volume before. The character of Kureno is explored. (view spoiler)[Kureno watches the DVD from the Cinderella play. He decides to reveal to Tohru two huge secrets. The Zodiac curse no longer has a hold over him, and so Kureno no longer transforms if hugged by a person of the opposite sex. He stays with Akito because he made a promise. Kureno wanted Tohru to understand why he can't be with Arisa even though he wants to.
The second shocking revelation is that Akito

Honestly I'm a little floored right now and the more I think about it the more worked up I get about the future. Kureno drops a pretty big bomb on poor little Tohru's head (actually several) and now even I don't have an opinion on what she should do with all this new information!

The new things we learn here both make me curious and yet a little, I don't know, frustrated maybe? Kureno has given us a lot to think about. But it felt to me like the implications of the biggest POW! were a little glo...more

I actually read this volume a long time ago, but I recently re-read it, so I decide to post a review. The main characters are going to graduate soon, which is a cause for a lot of funny panels in this manga. Girls are still obsessing over Yuki. Tohru talks to Kureno and he tells her a ground-breaking Sohma family secret that involves Akito. The news is pretty big, and it changes the way you look at Akito, it makes you want to re-read the entire series over with the new knowledge in mind. There i...more

WOAH....

My mind is literally blown to pieces.

That was to much information for one volume.

All Akito's weird-ass secrets(still hate him, can't help it), Kureno's secret...I am a little dissapointed about Shiguire though, you can't help like that guy but now I just don't want to anymore. Starting to question the motives of everyone who knew about that now anyway.

Other than that friendships develop a little more, but I think the plot is starting to slow down. How is Tohru ever going to break the...more

Things got really interesting in this one. Kureno has a chat with Tohru about why he can't see Arisa. There are some interesting reasons that he has to stay by Akito's side. I was like, "whoa." I've really liked this manga series until now, but things just got really crazy. Now, I'm very impatient to read the rest. He lets Shigure in on the secret (which is way too big of a spoiler for me to reveal in a review). We find out that there is some special relationship with Shigure and Akito. Allow me...more

This was an intense volume (and it's only gonna get more so, I know)
Some exciting revelations, and it really made me love Kureno even more. Also, this was the volume where I was really starting to pity Akito. Akito became much more complex in this volume.
Oh Shigure. You just keep getting more and more interesting.
So does everyone, really. That's what I love about this series. ALL the characters are really quite complex (even the crazy Yuki-fangirl, Motoko).
Caroline
Some excellent explanation into why Akito is the way he is--it was nice to get a better idea of his character, since up until now he's really just been this menacing force in the series with no real idea of why he's like that. As always, some great character development while they interact with each other, good stuff.

This book, was my favorite! I love AkitoxShigure, love it!!! It's just so adorable. I read the final scene with the two of them over and over. I also loved the part when Kyo made the flower and gave to Tohru, his face was so cute it made me want to cry! He looked like an innocent little kittty!

"Fruits Basket Volume 17" has Tohru and Kureno meeting up, and Tohru discovers some shocking secrets. Kureno can't be with Arisa, because he has a devotion to Akito that goes beyond the curse. His curse is broken and has been for ten years. He stayed with Akito to keep up the facade that he was under the curse. Also, Akito is a woman! She has been keeping that secret her whole life because of her evil mother (who is crazier than she is!) and it's only the members of the Zodiac older than Akito w...more

I'm still curious about Shigure. Everyone else has a tragic back story and so far, Shigure's hasn't been revealed yet.. (or did I missed it?)

You know how funny guys looks different when they're on their serious modes? That's what I always feel about Shigure especially when he's with among the adults (Hatori, Ayame etc) and Akito. I've always been curious about him but despite being always deemed as the 'perverted old guy' he seems cool. Probably even cooler than Hatori. But Hatori has his own k...more

We learn more about the background between Akito, Kureno, and Shigure... the bond between Akito and the zodiac members grows creepier and creepier. Yuki also gets to know Machi a tiny bit better, little by little. I've gotta say I'm a Machi fan.

I absolutely love this Manga - it's my first ever manga that I read and I've also watched the Anime. A nice love story all around with good graphics and a unique story line - made me sympathetic with the cat.

They prepare for graduation by making flowers. We find out Kureno's curse is broken! And Kyo and Tohru have another kawaii moment. Also, Akito is actually a woman...scary.

A big Sohma family secret is revealed. I don't know if I'm just clueless, but I didn't see this coming. I'm glad I never came across a spoiler for this. Sometimes it's fun being shocked!
