I won this slim volume in a Goodreads giveaway. The poet is writing his way through his grief, it seems, after losing his wife. Most times, his poetry is unbearably sad and I had to keep stopping. Even the poems not about his wife are tinged with melancholy. When Fagnani writes lines like "I yearn to breathe the fragrant hair that is not there, it is not there" my heart broke for him. In the end, I hope someday to read some poems by him that find some hope and joy in his journey forward.

This is the first time I have read a book of poems by one person. A Kinder Bright is the means that Jerry Fagnani is dealing with the lose of his wife and growing up. These poems are his journey through his grieving process. They are deep, sad, but well written.
