Oh, wow! How have I never seen this book before? Why have I not read James Buchanan before this??

This story was just perfect for me! Yeah, I was a little worried that I would quickly get bored when they were already having sex 5% into the book, but holy hell Nate and Caesar were so hot for each other, and so hot together. Hot assholes having a lot of hot angry sex! I was never bored. This was somewhat enemies-to-lovers with the cop-falls-for-thief--thief-falls-for-cop theme. The thief (Caesar) a...more

I read this author's story COYOTE CROSSING (also 5 stars) in the ARRESTING DEVELOPMENTS e-anthology from Aspen Mountain Press and loved it so much I decided I needed to give one of the author's other books a shot. So I checked out the backlist, found one of the longer books, and started reading. And then I couldn't put it down! This book is hot from page one.

Cop drama/suspense is not usually my cup of tea. THE GOOD THIEF is based on all the elements that usually make me roll my eyes and quit rea...more

The Good Thief had me hooked from the first page. This book has it all. Handsome heroes, fast-paced storyline and a very sweet romance.
When Ceasar Serrano and Nathan Reilly meet at a hollywood party, they are immediately attracted to one another. So it was natural for them to hook up and end up at Nathan's home before the night was over.
When Nathan gets a phone call and must rush out to work, he is abrupt with Caesar. Not wanting to look like a fool, Caesar goes to leave, he notices Nathan's po...more

I always love Buchanan's characters. They are always so real; guys you can imagine walking around out in the great big world. In The Good Thief, it's the same way. I really dug Nate, the cop. What was so great about him was that he wasn't a dashing homicide detective or an impressive FBI agent. No, he was a uniform cop. One of the guys who shows up to, as he says, "put out the fires". The cops that most of us have experience with. I loved him for that. He's truly a good guy.
Ceasar was a bit har...more

Well I think this book is my preferrend among James Buchanan's books I have read.

Caesar is a "good" thief: he is a burglar but he is a good guy inside. From the Ispanic side of the city, like a lot of guy like him he hasn't had a chance to become a good next boy door. From little thefts to big housebreaks the step is short and it passes through some convictions. But Caesar is also a very handsome guy. So he has his share of adventures and one of them leads him to Nate, a fair hair All American B...more

This is one of my favorite M/M love stories I have read in a long time. I loved the storyline and both heroes were so sexy!

This was a nice story, light, funny and very sexy. Cop and cat burglar fall in love, while having super hot sex.

Ceasar is Mexican-American he also breaks into homes for a living. One night he meets a hot blond who he ends up in bed with. The blond, Nate just happens to be LAPD. Of course things cannot work. Only problem is they seem to keep running into each other, and having sex.

One day during a break Ceasar discovers some very disturbing photographs and he takes them to Nate so that he can do...more

The Good Thief is a pretty good romance suspense about Caesar who works construction during the day, a job that allows him to case neighborhoods to find easy houses to rob. One plum robbery quickly shifts from easy to serious when he finds the owner’s dark secrets hidden away. Not knowing what else to do, Caesar turns over his findings to Nate, a cop he recently met (and had a hot one-night stand with.) But doing the right thing isn’t always easy, especially when Nate and Caesar figure out that...more

I loved this book a lot. Part of the reason is because I have a thing for thieves falling in love with cops and vice versa books. And this one was executed perfectly. I loved the relationship between the MCs throughout the whole book; how after finding out each other's job they tried to stop what they had going on, but they just couldn't stay away from each other... and then slowly falling in love. Usually I don't like books that have a sex scene that early in the book (h...more

It was a really nice story. I enjoyed reading it and it left me in a good mood after finishing it.

Caesar and Nate are the kid of men I like. Strong willed, in great shape and just rightly masculine. Their relationship (their sexual one) was rather well balanced. Nate might have been bottoming, but you never got the sensation that he wanted to play the submissive role, more like he enjoyed giving himself to Caesar, while still controlling the situation. I suppose his physique also helped with tha...more

I'm totally loving James Buchanan lately. Everything I've read from her is just great, and The Good Thief is no exception.

This story centers on a cop and a thief who initially meet and hook up without knowing the other's profession. Once they figure it out, they try to avoid each other like the plague, but (obviously) do not succeed. They are in fact forced together after the thief uncovers some damning evidence during a burglary and then decides to bring it to the cop's attention. As a result,...more

4.5 stars, really!

What seems like another boring premise for a book (cops & robbers in LA) took a back seat to the development of the undeniable pull between the two main characters. Because they had similar backgrounds (same socio-economic stratus) it was believable that they would find their physical attraction supported by a shared understanding, experiences, and tastes. I also liked the secondary characters here, esp. the sister. Plus, I always love a story that has a strong doggie compo...more

A cop. A thief. A lot of chemistry. When they meet, neither Caesar or Nate know anything about each other, except for the instant and mutual attraction. When Caesar learns Nate’s a cop, he knows it ouldn’t be a good idea to see him again. But when he comes across something he can’t ignore while on one of his housebreaking jobs, he takes the evidence of a disturbing crime to Nate, even though that means confessing to his own activities.

I loved this one. The fast paced plot, with the complications...more

I love the characters and the depth to them! The story was very good as well. While reading the book you not only understood the characters you delved into them as though you personally knew them. You fell in love with the loyalty and determination of Nate and completely understood why he pushed Caesar away, even more you believed in that passion that had him grabbing Caesar and pulling him in. I fell in love with Caesar and some of the history I gave him because some of it isn’t explained and w...more

Buchanan is officially on my list of "Top Ten M/M Writers" with this story. Beautiful character development; authentic, human, evoking a sympathetic response from the audience at every turn despite the gray tone of the ethics sometimes called into question.

I'm often leery of m/m romances with the "contemporary" stamp on them. Mostly because so many authors struggle to depict men as what they are -- namely, MEN. In this story, however, Buchanan executes masterfully. He takes the age-old, well wor...more

3.5 stars -- I'm feeling generous today, so rounding up to 4.

This is a fun story. I enjoyed the characters, who are portrayed with enough emotion to keep them interesting but without overblown angst. My biggest beef with the story is that a major subplot -- (view spoiler)[following up with the cops who have been trying to kill Caesar (hide spoiler)] -- was completely dropped. IMHO that's just dumb -- (view spoiler)[those guys would still have to kill him, since it would be easy to find out who t...more

I liked this, but I didn't love it.

Caesar is a thief. He's also a day laborer so he can case houses around the area without being obvious. Caesar's brother is trying to help him find steady work, so he hooks him up with some studio. They are invited to a party so the studio people can see Caesar and talk to him about the job. While there he meets Nate, sexy blonde hair green eyed muscle man.

Well, 5% into the book they are screwing like rabbits. I thought "uh-oh"!

Then, Caesar finds out Nate is...more

3.5 of 5, rounded up. An enjoyable read and, with a bit tighter editing, I'd have given it an unconditional 4 stars. The writing is solid, easy to follow, with few obvious typos. Still, much as I love steamy sex, I would have been happier with a bit less of it and a bit more focus on the developing relationship between the protagonists, Caesar and Nate. I have to admit I skipped over the last few sex scenes with a "been there, done that" thought. But if you're looking for a sweet, fluffy, sexy r...more

Hmmm what can I say... Cop story..

I share one of the leads in their feeling that I don't have a uniform fetish. BUT.. I feel that this story has done better than most in capturing how it feels caught between the uniform and the responsibilities versus the need to be who you are. There were a couple of key sentences that really made me understand just where Nate was coming from. I think James Buchanan has captured it quiet well.

Great Characters.. with some great thought put into their developmen...more

Holy CRAP did I love these guys. While I love my angst, I actually enjoyed that there wasn't much here. I loved that they were both gay and didn't care. No coming out drama. They were comfortable in that part of their lives. The only trouble we had was their judgmental attitudes toward each others' professions. Caesar and Nate are EFFING SEXY! I honestly think this is some of the hottest sex I've read and it may just be because I thought they were so damn hot together. (I also got a wierd thrill...more

This is an awesome read. I loved Caesar from the start, but Nate grew on me. By the end, I loved them both and didn't want the story to end. How can you not love an officer and a thief? It worked, it worked very well.

" Really," Ceasar's touch danced along Nate's arm before he purred "Solamente mio. Mi's media naranja."

Only his, in a very possessive way and it was so very true. Then there was that other phrase again too. "Caesar, what does it mean when you say I am half an orange. It can't be li...more

This was my second James Buchanan book in a very short time and I have to say I loved it as much as the first. Nate and Caesar are both likable characters that are well fleshed out. I loved that Nate was drawn to Caesar even though he was the polar opposite of what he expected to to be drawn too. From beginning to end these characters kept me engrossed in their tale of the cop and the criminal on the run to protect the criminal after he finds something he shouldn't while robbing a house. It’s been some time sine I read title which had me hooked all night. I loved it. I absolutely LOVED it. I know it’s a pretty cliché criminal versus LEP pop tart, but it was very thrilling for me. I took me about a 20 pages to get around and comfortable with the authors style of elaboration and breaking the sentences mid way but once I got the hang of it, I couldn’t let it go……..all NIGHT! Lol.
If you are looking for a thrilling read, spiced with good sex and a very central plot line, this migh...more

This was my first James Buchanan, but it won't be my last. Very well-written and engaging. Recommended.

When it comes to gay-romance, my kind of book is the one that actually have a story in between the romp around the sheet/kitchen/living room or any area the two guys can find. This one is one of those. Nate and Caesar are two very likeable protagonists. The first one is an LAPD and the later is a thief who is try to do right after finding very disturbing photos of child pornography in one of the houses he robs. Sure there are many sex scenes but there is something actually going on around it. Ad...more

I've always loved this cover (sorry Torquere). It just gave me the perfect image of Caesar and Nate.

Caesar Serrano is a thief doing his best to go straight and failing. Nate Reilly is a good cop who's also gay. From the moment they meet at a casting party, the sparks fly between them and the sex is off the hook. That is, until Caesar discovers what the potential love/lust object of his life does for a living and he's out of there.

When a burglary unearths a more shocking crime inside the home of...more

It was an interesting read, but (for me) the two main characters did not have a special appeal or attachment. There are some steamy love scenes, and complications given one protagonist is a police officer and the other a practicing thief. A bit of mystery and intrigue on the sideline, but not an intricate plot there. There are other stellar reviews for this novel, and I did read it all the way through. For some reason, I did not bond with the characters so much. I enjoyed reading the book, but w...more

Caesar is a thief and the last thing he needs in his life happens when his casual hookup turns out to be a cop. How could he be so stupid? But when Caesar during a break-in finds evidence of a child molester and pedophile he finds himself unable to look the other way and instead turns to his new cop friend - Nate - for help. As it turns out the owner of the house is a high up cop running for a position in power, and the gay cop and burglar are frowned upon by some of Nate's colleagues who are co...more

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the characters, they felt real. I liked that the police officer is just that and not a detective. The pacing was excellent, the plot was interesting, and there was drama and danger. Although the really great peril scene was too early in the relationship so the reaction wasn't the "I'll die without you" kind of stuff I'm addicted to.
