We've never read any Corduroy books, so I'm not sure how this compares with them.
As far as being a nice book to read to a young child around the Christmas season, I thought this was pretty good. My 3-yr-old enjoyed seeing the bear decorate the tree, wrap presents, decorate gingerbread houses, baking cookies, and go Christmas caroling.

FYI, this book was not written by Don Freeman. It is just based on the character Corduroy from Don Freeman's classic.
A nice little story based during Christmas time involving the joy of giving rather than receiving. However, there is nothing special to make the Corduroy the real Corduroy. Could have been the same story with Mickey Mouse or a pigeon.

The Corduroy series was one of the only, if not the only one, classic series with a black girl as one of the main characters. In this edition there are no humans, only other animals who come to visit Corduroy for Christmas. It probably wouldn't have annoyed me so much if I hadn't read the original first!
A sweet corduroy story about how he learns to think of others before himself, After originally asking Santa for a bunch of different things, and learning that each of his friends are only asking for one thing, he changes his letter to ask for things for them instead. A wonderful lesson learned.
My boys were a little freaked out when Corduroy told Santa he didn't need any gifts, he just wanted his friends to get what they wanted. The were relieved to see that Santa gave him presents anyway.
Corduroy and his toy friends get ready for Christmas.

This is a cute story, starring the adorable bear from the classic story, "Corduroy." He makes a list of toys he wants for Christmas, but then changes it to reflect what his friends want. A great lesson on being selfless and giving toward others, especially during the Christmas season.
