I have to imagine that by the time you get to book 33 in a series, it becomes difficult to keep the series fresh. Yet, Mary Pope Osborne seems to have an indefatigable curiosity that bubbles over into her Magic Treehouse book.

A nice mix of the original adventures full of fun historical facts and the new Merlin Missions featuring magic and literary references.
Ok, I admit it, I barely skimmed the chapter with the rats in it. But the rest was great.
My only real regret with this series is that Sal Murdocca's beautiful paintings aren't featured in color except for the cover art. I'm sure that the black & white artwork helps keep the book price down and makes the books more accessible to more kids...more

There was going to be a flood in Venice.There was a note for them to read when they got there.It said the grand lady of the lagoon is in terrible danger the only one who can help you save her from disaster is the ruler of the seas to locate him follow these directions.

We have books 1 to 24 on CD, and we've listened to the first 8 a bazillion times. They are so repetitive and formulaic, but kids really enjoy them. Now perhaps it's been too long since I've read one, but this Magic Tree House book (a Merlin Mission! maybe that matters for this point?) just seems better written than the earliest ones. For example, she has started using alternatives to "said Jack. ... said Annie." Now they question, answer, whisper, laugh. Makes for a much more enjoyable...more
I remember reading a Magic Tree House book a long time ago but I vaguely remember it. Considering this to be my first real I've read in the series, I can say I am honestly impressed.
It's educational but also cleverly written. There are some parts that are not that amazing but some of the plot twists were great.

Carnival at Candlelight is an awesome mystery book. Jack and Annie were sent on a mission to save Venice. In the story, they rode on the back of golden lion with wings. Jack and Annie used a magic rhyme to change a stone lion into one they could ride. It took them to find Neptune the god of the sea. Jack and Annie also looked for the Lady of the Lagoon. Jack and Annie saved Venice from a flood.
Merlin has a new mission for Jack and Anny save an old grand lady and the laggon from a terrible disaster. But then they get lost. Will Jack and Anny and the grand lady get found read the book to find out.
If you ask me i really didnt kike this book. Out of all the books i have read this is one of the worst.

This time it's 18th century Venice. My 6-year-old loved listening to this one--he loved the magic. The magic other than the treehouse itself traveling places ;) No spoilers from me.
I just wish the writing in this series was better. How many times can you put "he said" and "she said" and "said Annie" and "cried Jack" into one story?

I think I'm beyond the age of enjoying Magic Tree House. Or maybe I just didn't like how the author narrated the book. The children sounded a bit nasally. And I got distracted by all the "he said" and she said." I suppose for a young reader it helps to have that pointed out frequently. But it is certainly not a story for depth (though I don't think they are intended to be anyhow). However, the main point for reading this was to fill the O author category. Done.
well this book is about some kid they were triying to over a lake to get in a castel. so some people was on the lake and the kids ask they if they can get them over the the lake and the people were like shore. then they found a map and they went in the castel and they were having troble getting in.
They rode the king of the jungle because they turned him alive cause he was just a stone. They rode over to the sea and they used their imaginations and thought of this guy and he came up and he said, "Save the lady of the lagoon," and he did. Which is what everybody thought of Venice.
Not only is this book filled with adventure and factual knowledge but it also has great illustrations. The illustrations in this book make the story come alive. The illustrations really give you an idea of how Jack and Annie feel during key moments in the story.

The story to be honest was pretty repetitive and lame... Well I guess I'm not a seven year old anymore! I still know why I loved and chased the series though- colorful pictures and a new mystic journey every time.

1. I learned that in Venice they only have canals. 2. I also learned that they had a book that made metal turn soft and made stone come alive. 3. The third thing that I learned was that Venice has a carnival day that has a lot of people come and also that there are fireworks on that day.

This is a fun and fast-paced journey to Italy, over two hundred years ago. It's a good story and we read it in just one sitting, which is unusual for these books. Our girls have really enjoyed this series and we look forward to the next.
My favorite part of the book is when Jack makes bars very soft and they escape from lots of rats in a dungeon where they learned a lot of spells. They use a spell on a stone tiger with wings. They make it be alive and they fly away on a cursed stone lion.
I'm obviously too old for these books, [I'm 16] but they're like a guilty pleasure. I'm rating it three stars because they are basic and repetitive. However, they're great books for little kids!

I absolutely LOVED the series when I was a kid, and I still do! I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy / adventure books!! :)
I relly liked it because it was a adaveter book and I like those kinde of books and it was just my kinde of book.
Didn't really catch merlin missions. Hard if didn't read books before it. Pretty good though.
I'm reading these Magic Tree House books since I've seen my younger brother checking them out from the school library. Plus, I've always wanted to read them when I was kid. I was completely surprised, though, to find out that the series has over thirty books. There were only like ten or so when I was in elementary school. o_o

Well, I don't really remember it, because I read it in the third grade.
Magic Tree House #33 in Venice at Carnival. Cute enough. The chapters have gotten longer I guess because the age of the kiddos increases as they work through the series!
Read when i was little and dont remember any of it.
Fun Kids books... Great to read with my second grader!
