This book (on audio) was my first exposure to the Magic Tree House series. The series has its fans and its detractors. After reading this first book I'm kind of on the fence. As I understand it the series is meant to be a sort of bridge between picture book and chapter books. The series also endeavors to convey a lesson about some epoch in history. All of that is fine with me and I say if a kid is wild about this series then great. Mine doesn't seem to have cottoned to it. And to be hones More...

The formula of Mary Pope Osborne's Magic Tree House series I believe is an effective one. The simple science facts she presents in each of the books are solid and tangible for the age level to which the series is directed. The theme of time travel offers a nice beginning science fiction element. Basically, for anyone who hasn't experienced these books, two young children find a tree house full of books which take them on adventures to the past when they mention a wish while looking at the boo More...

I just love these books. "My" 7 year old is up to book 27, so I have a lot of catching up to do. He's having so much fun, he has no idea that each book is a social studies lesson. And they're fun for grown-ups too. I was disappointed it was over so fast. I've always loved combining learning with adventure stories, best entertainment there is. Not that anyone out of their tweens would read this without child-prompting; definately for the younger set, but more fun than most for the adult More...

Mummies in the morning is book 3 of the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne.

In this amazing MTH adventure Jack and Annie are taken baci to Ancient Egypt. They follow a black cat and a funeral procession into one of the Great Pyramids.

I loved Egypt in my young life, I loved all the mummies and the dead bodies. I loved getting DK Eyewitness books so I could see pictures of dead mummies.

When there was mention of a rotting corpse in this book, written for kids, I was enthralled. Reading about rotten bandages and peeled flesh and sunken eye sockets was very appealing. And this book had a picture of it! I remember being disappointed with it because it wasn't what the words described, but I guess it couldn't be that gra More...

Another Magic Tree House book set in Ancient Egypt. A good book, but I was concerned that my daughter might be scared at the ending of a few chapters so I kept reading to reassure her. She didn't complain that I kept reading and the mystery was solved with no nightmares on her part (we read at bedtime). Good book for young readers!

Emily (6 1/2 years old): I really liked it. There was a gross part because the mummy was over 1000 years old - rotten bandages, broken teeth, pushed i More...

I know, you are shocked I liked it. Well so am I....lol.

Blah blah blah, book, wish, whoosh, mummies. But they do help each other when the other is afraid and they are both supportive of each other. Jack needs to be bravier and less scientific and seize the moment and Annie...well she just needs to plain think before she does her actions.

She helps Jack overcome his shock of meeting the Queen and getting the Book of the Dead to her and we learn quite a bit about Egypt and the m More...

Billie read this book to me in two sittings. She learned some new words reading it, but the writing is pretty bland in my opinion, and very shallow when it comes to any depth of emotion or real personality in the characters. She enjoyed it enough, mostly because of the possibility of a creepy mummy emerging, but never really talked about it afterward. She will usually refer back to books again and again if she really likes them. This was probably not one of her favorites, nor mine, but it do More...

I didn't really like this book. I didn't like the creepy ghost part in it. The only reason I can see for reading this book with your child is if you are studying what the ancient Egyptians believed about traveling to the afterlife, but even then I'm sure there is a better way than with this book because it doesn't go into much depth. My kids were a bit scared the whole way through and the only thing Audrey remembered at the end was that they were stuck in a dark hallway and the cat led them out. More...

10/21/09 Kinda fun to fill in the missing details of these little books. They are such quick readers! Annabelle is LOVING them! I like the discussion they bring. Mummies or Mommies? What is a Mummy? Are they real? What is a pyramid? They're in Egypt? Egypt is in the scriptures. Very fun! What is a hieroglyph? Anyway. It's a fun way to expose Annabelle to history. Like I said, she's really enjoying these quick reads. So, after reading this one today, we went on to read... #4...

First of all, the cover is kind of scary looking, in my opinion. Also, in the book there was a rather gruesome description of a mummy which I thought went above the target age of the book.

Jack and Annie travel to Egypt, go inside an pyramid and meet a ghost queen. They help her find her way to the afterlife. I wasn't crazy about them meeting a ghost, since this book is supposed to teach history, but oh well.

Hate the way the author uses sentence fragments constantly.

These books (The Magic Tree House Series) are ideal for about 5 - 8 year olds. They're full of illustrations and basic facts about the period to which Jack and Annie get transported.

Jack and Annie go to ancient Egypt and inside the pyramid of a queen. They help the ghost of said queen to find her Book of the Dead and thus complete her trip to the underworld. Also, a cat helps them out when the get lost in the maze of the pyramid in this, the third in the series.

My 4 yo and I are enjoying these short early chapter books. There is just enough adventure and danger to make a good story he can follow, as well as enough for me to enjoy. The bonus is these are "edutainment," so we both learn a few new facts. My son was a little confused that there was a real ghost in this book, but he did enjoy the story. Books 1-4 are part of the same story arc. Also check out the non-fiction companion book Mummies by the same author.

The fourth book in the Magic Tree House series, Mummies in the Morning, is the story of Jack and Annie being taken to ancient Egypt by their magic tree house. My kids were a tad bit scared when I read this one to them. They didn't have that feeling with the first two in the set. It is definitely worth reading, to keep the series in order, but I don't recommend reading it to younger kids. My 6 year old was fine with it, but my 3 year old didn't like it.

A magic tree house allows Jack and Annie to use books travel through time to any place in the world and help solve mysteries and retrieve objects for the sorceress, Morgan Le Fay. Mummies in the Morning finds Jack and Annie landing in Ancient Egypt where they must help an ancient Queen locate her Book of the Dead so she can travel safely to the afterworld and stop haunting her own pyramid.

I haven't made time to do a lot of reading lately, but I have to put this on there since I read this book one afternoon and have read parts of a lot of other Magic Tree House books. My son is a really good reader and loves to stay up at night in his bed and read these chapter books. I have enjoyed reading some of them with him when we alternate reading pages.

Mummies are really cool and Mary Pope Osborne knows how to write on a level for kids to enjoy and understand. I love her style but for me I need a deeper level - that's why I like her guide books which tell more information. But for anyone who wants to learn the basics, this is a great book about magic and mummies...in the morning.

Our girls really enjoy the Magic Tree house series. This one involves a mysterious ghost and describes a 1000 year old Egyptian mummy. I thought these might be a little scary for our girls, but they seemed to do okay with it. We discussed how this story is just a made-up pretend story - not real. We are excited to read more books in the series!

In this book, Jack and Annie went on an adventure to a place with mummies and they found a mummy. After they found the mummy, they got lost in the pyramid and they didn't know where they were. They found a way out at the end of the book and they got home and their mom gave them a snack. This book was good because they had courage when they were trapped and all the doors around them in the pyramid were closed.

Chris also read this book in May 2010. In this Magic Tree House book, Ja More...

This is another fun book in Mary Pope Osbourne's Magic Treehouse series. A quick, albeit formulaic read. I particularly like the bits of historical information in the books. This one has an element of the macabre with the mummies, but it was light enough not to frighten my four and a half year old.

Mummies in the Morning is the third book in the Magic Tree House series. Jack and Annie still don't know who owns the tree house but they're getting a better idea on how to control its magic. This time they are lured to ancient Egypt by a mau.

I have mixed feelings about Mummies in the Morning. I like Jack and Annie experience some Egyptian magic and that the mummy isn't a monster. On the other hand, their adventures through secret passages and the way the mummy's burial is described More...

In this Magic Tree House adventure, Jack & Annie see the pyramids in Egypt. I love Ancient Egypt, so this book was right up my alley! It was so much fun to encounter mummies and ghosts!!! I'm always curious as to how Annie & Jack are going to make their final getaway. Until the next book =)

Amazing novel book series! children get to use their imaginations as you read each word. They get to go on the adventures with Jack and Annie to different around the world and through time. I read these books at story time which gives children the chance to take part in book sharing!

My five-year old and I are reading these books. So far, we've loved them all. This one was great because we were able to have lots of discussions on Ancient Egypt...at least as much of a "discussion" as you can have with a 5-year old. He was fascinated by the mummies and the pyramids.
